Actors You Avoid At All Costs

Tools

I wouldn't miss a film just because of one actor or actress but if there isn't someone else in the film I really like then I wouldn't rush out to see a film with the following in:

Will Smith
Rosario Dawson
Zoe Saldana
Andrea Riseborough - everytime I see her I just want to push her off a cliff.
Ashton Kutcher
Katherine Heigl
Freida Pinto
Blake Lively
Denzel Washington
Mel Gibson
Thandie Newton
Most of the American Pie movie cast

That's all I can think of now.

For some reason for most of them I don't have a proper reason, just feel disappointed when I see them in a trailer or I find out they are in a film, just don't like them in films. Some are just wooden in the acting department(Blake Lively, Zoe Saldana for example).

Even Satan herself won't stop me watching a film with Drew in it, however:

Satan
Nic Cage
Johnny Lee Miller (which is annoying because he's in two films I really like)
Mel Gibson
Sean Williams Scott
Ashton Kutcher
Kate Beckensale (it's not that she's bad, it's just that she usually picks crap films)
Samuel L. Jackson (post 2000)
Ben Stiller
Own Wilson
Jackie Chan
Steve Carrell
Will Ferrell
Vince Vaughn
Jon Favreau
Adam Sandler
Paul Rudd
Tom Green
Jack Black
David Arquette

That's all I can think of atm. I can't say I'm ever happy to see Geoffery Rush or Adrian Brody, either, but if I stray into those I merely tolerate, I'll be here for another 15 minutes.

Ooooh, Honeykid. Ooooh, forget 15 minutes, I know where you'll be FOR ETERNITY.

They will all be waiting for you at the gates of your Hell, Honeykid.

Go ahead and enlarge that if you wanna see what's waiting for Honeykid in the future. It is a glimpse into the beyond... into the darkness of mankind... into suffering, pain and pleasures you cannot imagine.

It is Honeykid's Hell, ruled by Goldberg, the god of flesh, hunger and desire.

Tom Cruise
His acting lacks......acting.

Leonardo DiCaprio
With the exception of very few movies, he sucks.
I'm sorry but I can not disagree more with DiCaprio. He is one of the best actors out there today. Inception, Blood Diamond, Django Unchained, the Great Gatsby - I would NOT avoid him.

An actress I would avoid though is Miley Cyrus. Singers stay singers.

Closet I get to that are probably Micheal Cera and Hayden Christensen. Hate Micheal Cera but I still saw Juno (which was pretty good no thanks to Cera) and Scott Pilgrim vs The World which I hated. As for Christensen he was the worst part of the Star Wars prequels for me. Even more so then Jar Jar and Jake Lloyd.

There are, however, actors I tend to avoid.

George Clooney: There are very few movies I will watch with him in it after the cinematic abomination that was Batman & Robin. But that being said I still saw Ides of March.

Ben Stiller: Not a big fan of his acting because he generally plays the same guy in every movie. But he did write, star and direct Tropic Thunder which is one of my top 30 favorite movies. But then again the big part why I liked that movie was Robert Downey Jr, Brandon T. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, and Jack Black (whose persona fit his character pretty well). While Ben Stiller was simply there on screen for the first 2/3 of the movie. But he was not in a typical Ben Stiller role like in Meet the Parents, Along Came Polly, or There's Something About Mary so that was a plus.

Will Ferrell: Some people think he is a comedy genius, to me he was always meh. In my opinion his funniest stuff was as Alex Trebek on Celebrity Jeopardy, and he was the straight man on that sketch. But I still thought The Campaign and Old School were funny. Talledaga Nights or Anchorman, not funny. And I refuse to watch most of the comedies he fronts.

Tom Cruise: To me he was very hit or miss. Was not a fan of Top Gun, never saw Risky Business, liked him in A Few Good Men, thought he was a scene stealer in Tropic Thunder, and generally do not watch his recent movies like Jack Reacher, Vanilla Sky, or the new Mission Impossible movies which are needless sequels to a **** franchise. I will not see Oblivion either.

Seth Rogen: Once again VERY hit or miss. I liked Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Knocked up was okay (but overrated), never saw Superbad or Pineapple Express, and I hated Observe and Report and I refuse to watch Green Hornet.

Sometimes the performer isn't enough for me to want to avoid a film unless it's directed by some run of the mill film for hire director. That said, I do get negative knee jerk reactions to Jack Black, Adam Sandler, Colin Firth, Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd (except Clueless) Luke 'n' Owen Wilson, Woody Allen, Mila Kunis (what's the fuss about this bitch?) Russell Crowe post American Gangster (picks some boring sounding films these days), Mia Waiskowska or whatever you say her name (she makes me uncomfortable) and Shia LaBeof, who I never had beef with until everybody kept going on about how much they hated him which in turn turned me to the dark side (light?) side.

George Clooney: There are very few movies I will watch with him in it after the cinematic abomination that was Batman & Robin. But that being said I still saw Ides of March.
That wasn't his fault. You should see some of his more recent films. He's become quite a good filmmaker and actor.

Since you're a big fan of Tropic Thunder, what did you think of Tom Cruise's performance as the studio exec?
I thought he did a great job.

He was the biggest scene stealer of the bunch! He has a minor role, not a lot of screen time, but he is one of the biggest parts of the movie that was so memorable. I am not a big Tom Cruise fan, but holy hell was he great in this movie! And it was also the movie that gave his career a much needed boost.

Yeah, there's always these surprising exceptions to our pet peeves.

Even with Ashton Kutcher, I was reminded yesterday that he starred in The Butterfly Effect. I saw that before I'd heard of Ashton Kutcher, and my memory of his acting is a favorable one. Hard to admit, but true.

I do not have a visceral hatred for Ashton Kutcher that some have. To me he simply existed with me not really caring either way about his movies or TV shows. Never saw many of his movies, but that had more to do with the movie itself and less to do with his acting.

As for exceptions I love Clint Eastwood, he is my favorite actor, but holy hell was he terrible in Paint Your Wagon.

So was Lee Marvin

I wonder if there's been a thread like that: Worst Performance by Your Favorite Actor
