Tracy is, as always, magnificent. But Loy is the star here - she carries the film on the strength of a subtle, graceful performance, that, despite much less dialogue than Tracy, is remarkable for the sheer storytelling done through her expressive manner, face, and piercing eyes.

Even better than the individual performances, though, is the palpable chemistry between Loy and Tracy, who were having a secret affair during this, their first film together, that carried through their second (also excellent) film together the next year, Libeled Lady. Great stuff.
