Bad Luck on Bond Set

A series of dramatic car accidents suspended production of the next James Bond movie, “Quantum of Solace,” at Lake Garda in northern Italy.
Two stuntmen were injured while filming a car chase last week. According to the Bond fan site, MI6, which has been closely following the film’s production, Aris Comninos, 40, suffered a fractured cranium while filming the movie’s 15-minute opening chase scene. Mr. Comninos had to be cut free of the Alfa Romeo 159 he was driving and airlifted to the hospital where, as of last Friday, he was in serious but stable condition. Another a minor accident happened earlier during the filming of the same action sequence, but no one was hurt. A call to Eon Productions, which produces the James Bond franchise, has not yet been returned.
The action sequence was being shot by the production’s second unit, which doesn’t include director Marc Forster or any of the lead actors. And primary production seems to be going on as planned in Austria.
The roads around Lake Garda are notoriously curvy. Two weeks ago, an employee of Aston Martin was delivering Bond’s DBS sports car to the set when the car skidded off the road, smashed through a guardrail and into the lake. Underwater, the driver managed to kick open a door and swim to the surface.
“I was shaken but not stirred,” the driver told the Times of London. The DBS was one of six — each valued at $262,000 — being used for the movie
