East of Eden was Will Hamilton gay?

In the film Call Goes to see Will Hamilton at the Gym where he is teaching men exercise moves to prepare to get fit for the draft. Cal follows Will into the locker room and talks to Will Hamilton about investing in beans. All the while Will is naked in the shower and Cal is talking to him peering over the shower panel. At one point Will turns to Cal after he just turned off the shower and says Don't get so close to me, I don't want to get all hot all over again. Was he saying he was being turned on by Cal being there while he was naked in the shower?
