This is a custom found amongst Yiddish speakers. (Which is to say, Ashkenazic Jews). To show derision for something by repeating the word, then adding a rhyming word that begins with "schm-". Like saying "Fancy-schmancy".

Like the joke about the Psychiatrist who tells the Jewish mother that her son is suffering from an Oedipus complex. She responds "Oedipus-schmoedipus, who cares as long as he loves his mother!"
