Young crew member at space station mutates into gelatinous mass

Hello, all. I'm looking for the title of a 1980's sci-fi horror film. The film takes place in a space station and a young male crew member (teen or early 20's) is bitten or stung by an alien creature on board. He is then placed in the infirmary where he slowly gestates into an immobile gelatinous blob. Orange in color I think. Later, The alien that attacked him goes into the infirmary and eats the blob. Most of the movie involves the space crew trying to find the alien. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
