Did you mean you want him to do a movie review for you.
I'm about to see this but I've avoided it because I thought it might be just one of the latest rush cheesy movies tha Nicolas Cage has been putting out trying to salvage his auctioned off houses.
Nothing against Cage, but he hasn't done anything of note since Adaptation (2002) for which he got the Oscar and $2,000, 000., although he did manage to get $20,000,000 for National Treasure ( 2004) and another $12,000,000 a piece for Sorcerer's Apprentice ( 2010) and Seeking Justice (2011).
Didn't mean to turn this into a Nicolas Cage thread, but I always thought there is something flaky about a guy who changes his name to avoid being connected with celebrity ( his uncle Francis ) when it was that celebrity which landed him the bit part in Fast Times At Ridgemont High and put him on the radar. Hollywood people allready knew who he was, so I don't understand the name change ( other than a weird self-promoting stunt ).
But what can I say, apparantly it worked.
( I did like him in Wild At Heart, Red Rock West , Lord Of War and Adaptation ).

Yeah, he's been doing some pretty goofy stuff of late. Drive Angry and Season of the Witch were both silly "so bad they're good" flicks. I've always liked him, though, regardless of the inconsistent quality. Bad Lieutenant was the last decent thing I think he's done.

I hope he gets another plum role to show off his strengths soon. Maybe something with the Coens. That would be sweet.

Yeah, and Knowing, Next, The Wicker Man, even the Weather Man, Ghost Rider to name a few duds.
But yeah, I'd like to see him sink himself into something with the same intensity of Wild At Heart. Maybe he needs the right director to bring it out.

Well, to be fair, I enjoyed Next and Knowing, but they weren't anything special. Knowing was definitely the weaker of the two, I think.

Ghost Rider was disappointingly mediocre, but I'll still watch the sequel because I'm into comic book movies. I really like Kick Ass, but not because of him in particular. He just happened to be in it, and didn't do too much with it.

The Wicker Man was atrocious. That one really hurt. It was so bad, I can't even understand how Labute did it.

However, I think The Weather Man is a fairly good film and will be appreciated more in time.

You are talking about a guy that at one point was generating $20, 000.000 per move (Gone In Sixty Minutes, Windtalkers, National Treasure )
to doing voice overs in the upcomming Croods ( 2013 ) for $1,000,000.
His acting can be desribed as inconsistent and erratic , at best, althoug he is capable of staying an A-lister. His movie choices after Adaption suck ( with the exception of a few, where they offerd him large money for B-tier movies.) If one is thinking he is agreat actor and has aspirations of cementing himsel as one , he can not afford to do chickenshit movies.
It's kind of ironical, as Cage takes himself very seriously but winds up playing in Cheesy movies.

I will say that I think he has become lazy about his performances, with some exceptions, and he needs to choose his roles more carefully. He can be a great actor, imho, but I think after The Rock maybe he started coasting.

There's nothing wrong with being a quirky character actor, and he has the goods to pull off improbable roles delightfully well, eg. Raising Arizona, Matchstick Men. But he's spent too much time putting in bland work in wanna-be blockbusters, and as a result he's watered down his image.

I think he can do much better. I'm not one of his haters. I've always been a fan, an honest fan. I guess he needs to focus more on picking films that suit his style, and stop trying so hard to be in "event" movies.

By the way, nice to see you today, CA! Hope you're doing well.

We've gone on holiday by mistake
You are so wrong about that; I had to narrow down my list. I've seen over 9000 movies, and you just made us aware of Predator, so it's a good thing
How do you know you ve seen 9000 movies?

I have no idea how many movies I've seen, I probabaly own around 400 ish and ofc I ve seen loads but I ve never seen anyone say to an accurate degree how many flicks they ve watched.

It is just that your thread if named "Ultimate Action movies".

I would define an "action" movie as a late 80s/90s film starring Arnie, Stallone or Willis or films like that, a lot of Nicolas Cage stuff too, Van Damme etc.

The best of which probably being Terminator 2, Predator, Die Hard.

Some of the films in your list I define as something else.

The Bourne Trilogy I would call "Spy Thriller"

Cop Land is more of a Thriller/Drama. Very little action. Great flick though.

The Departed, Road to Perdition great though they are , are certainly not "action movies".

[quote=gandalf26;792661]How do you know you ve seen 9000 movies?

That's easy. I write them down in a book to keep track. As of now, I have 3 books of movies listed that I have seen. The current number is 9032 but there is actualy more as I have a bunch of movies that I've seen in the last year, that are just sitting and waiting for me to enter them in to the book. I just heven't had the time and keep putting it off, because it's not just listing them but placing them in the appropriate categories in my movie library. I would guessstimate just from the height of the stacks, that there is at least 300 more I need to enter.

From all the movies I saw I created a category that I called Ulimate Action Movies. These movies are not just any action movies. I tried to stick with mostly American movies, throwing in an occassional foreign movie. Some of the movies mentioned could croos into another category. It would be impossible for me to compile an all inclusive list so I stuck to my basic list. Whatever you consider an ulltimate action movie is fine with me and can be foreign to be inclusive, so feel free to add.
Wa-hoa! What an impressive. There are some movies on the list that I don't like at all, or have not seen, but there are a number of movies on the list that I have seen and liked. To this list, I'd add the following films:

West Side Story

Monument Avenue

Southie

Dirty Harry (the first one)

Zodiac

Lawrence of Arabia

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Million Dollar Baby

Gran Torino

Yes, that's why I said the categories could cross genres and it's not so much about continous action but certain scenes that were action loaded. For instance in State Of Grace, who can foget the climatic shootout scene at the bar ( I call that action. )

Yes, Monument Avenue and Southie, not well known crime flicks that have action in them.

I've got soul but I'm not a soldier
I've always like Southland Tales but my only objection about it is the strong political undertone thats some what shoved down your throat. Be prepared to watch it several times if you want to understand it to its full potential . The plot is basically about the end of the world and how it unfolds through a prophet and it's also based on the Book of Revelations.

To me it was a big step down from Donnie Darko. Don't know what's happened to the director with his films after making the wonderful Donnie Darko.
