The Mandalorian
Season Two Retrospective
It's not as good as Season One.
Sorry to say. Despite the great cameos at the end, Season 2 of The Mandalorian lacks the sense of excitement and tension that the first season did. Perhaps it was the fact that we were excited and in awe of the new direction the Star Wars universe was heading, and the fact that the central character appealed to that edgy dark side that many fans longed for.
Yet these episodes felt a bit more watered down, more safer. No real sense of The Mandalorian being on the run, uneasy to trust people, having to use his wits to survive. Instead he was more at ease and in a parental position which meant he lost a slight touch of his coolness as a result. Sure cool episodes with Ahsoka Tano was strong, but no new worlds were explored and a real sense of mystery was missing here in this season.
The second episode with the refugee frog was the weakest of the season. Not terrible but lacking I think compared to the other episodes. It lacked suspense when the episode had the story to bring in that element, and it felt slightly boring at times. Yet the series also did well in world building, in particularly setting up spin off projects like tha Ahsoka Tano series, and Boba Fett's spin off which is coming next.
Overall, The Mandalorian Season Two whilst good lacked a lot of elements of Season One, yet continued to build a new area of the Star Wars world, establishing new recurring characters, and building the story first established in Series One.
In other words, This is The Iron Man 2 of The Mandalorian series.
