Sorry to hear that. Maybe take a break from this thread for a day or two and we can continue later, then?

You haven't at all established that it was ever eligible. You say you remember checking in December...and that's it. That's all we have. The evidence against is that it's not eligible now, other people remember differently, and four screenshots from the same time period say otherwise.

I'm not sure why you feel this has been proven.

Other movies that have already been accepted could be going through the same thing. Is NOBODY going to realize that?

Did you read the thread? Toda asked me why I "hate freedom" right after defending it, and Nostro said I was being "dishonest."
See above. You are blatantly misunderstanding and misrepresenting the entire exchange about freedom. So badly that I genuinely doubt whether a meaningful discussion is possible right now.

@Nostromo87 can you confirm I was RANTING about Gremlins in private and threatened to not send a list?

Guess what. A NASTY, PROPER LIST is the only way to counteract the decisions you think are stupid.

You won't win this skirmish but you could win the war if you just pick TRUE AND TRUE horror movies.

Then why did you ask me if I hated freedom? Why did Nostromo say I was being dishonest and that the idea I was getting at is general lawlessness? How am I pretending? Go back and read the posts...

Except, as I just said, you haven't demonstrated that "the same thing" happened at all. The screenshots from December contradict what you remember. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but it does mean we have literally nothing than your memory to go on, right? You're treating this tag change thing as an established fact but we can't find any evidence to support it, and there are several very plausible potential explanations as to why it might simply be an honest mistake, too.

Please step back, take a breath, and address this head on, before repeating the same things that don't actually respond to what I'm saying now.

Then why did you ask me if I hated freedom?
Are you even reading my posts, man? It doesn't seem like it. Here are some of the relevant portions:

"Takes away freedom" is a little grandiose, isn't it?
This is me implying that framing it in terms of freedom at all isn't really reasonable.

If you were just about "freedom," why have any criteria restriction? Freedom's great. Let someone add Gone With the Wind if they want. Why do you hate freedom?
That smilie face is me indicating I'm being facetious to make a point. Specifically, the point that this shouldn't be framed in terms of freedom at all because everybody favors some restrictions, including you.

The little face afterwards both winking and grinning suggests I was being facetious to make a point. Look at how facetious he looks: He's a rapscallion, that one. Look out for him.
This is me in the very next post making the above facetiousness/point TOTALLY OBVIOUS by spelling it out in plain text, even though I didn't imagine that would be necessary. Did you read this part?

Precisely. This is my whole point: nobody hates freedom, or loves it less than you, or whatever. We all agree there have to be rules, there are just some totally honest and reasonable disagreements about their severity.
Here is me in the same post explicitly saying nobody hates freedom.

The screenshot was from yesterday. I said that.
You're really not paying attention, dude. When I say screenshots, I mean the Internet Archive screenshots I linked a few posts back, here:

https://www.movieforums.com/communit...25#post1994425

Did you even see this? If you're just responding to these things immediately, with all this stuff coming in, I'll bet you're missing tons of arguments and evidence and stuff.

Jesus, man. He's not god and nobody says he is. He is, however, going to be doing a **** ton of work for this and your bitching isn't doing anyone any favours.

Nobody has accused you of jack **** either. Settle down and frankly if you can't accept the exclusiion of a movie, you need to take a seat. And maybe have a cup if tea. It's not that chronic. There is a PLETHORA of options that are equally deserving of your vote.

You can always state in a post that Aliens WOULD have received your top vote but alas.

Did you read the thread? Toda asked me why I "hate freedom" right after defending it, and Nostro said I was being "dishonest."

What I can't accept is everyone thinking we're improving on our old list by having opinions ruled by a website with a completely underdeveloped genre system because they only slap them on to say they have them.
Of course I've read the thread. I've been quiet a while and your ridiculousness brought me out of half silence. I should thank you.

Fact is, we ARE improving in the old list, even if your fav is excluded. There is going to be giallo, slasher, torture porn, real nastiness on that list.

PRAISE BE.

BUT, many of the classics of horror that influenced said genres won't be allowed. That's ridiculous.

I'm sorry but there are too many other people quoting me. I hav3n't seen some of yours at all.
Bingo. That's the problem. I'm not sure why you keep replying just to repeat accusations if you're not even going to read what I'm saying in response to them. Slow down, take a breath, see what I'm saying, and then reply to it. Doesn't have to be now, or even today.

This thread... holy crap.

I'm sending in a list to support Nostromo. Dude - Still miss the good 'ol horror days on here, but you're doing an exemplary job keeping the spirit alive.

Dude. You do realise that progenitors may not be the genre they spawn, right?

But that's moot since Aliens isn't a progenitor. It's a sequel that roped in the action fans so it ditched part of its horror elements.

Things have really escalated here I still have couple of rewatches to do before I send my list (it's mostly the bottom five or so that's causing me problems - too many films I'd like to include).

That's why I specified "horror classics." And Aliens still scares a lot of people and still has a creepy aura. Comparing the movie to it's predeccesor may make it seem like it's n9t horror. B7t compare it to lesser-grade horror movies and it might be.

I don't see how its an improvement if we're relying on a genre system that needs more improvement in every way imaginable, leaving off so many deserving classics. Just because we're adding more genres that doesn't mran we should do it at that expense. Imdb is a lot less reliable than actual horror-flick-based sites.

Yoda, one thing that might make me accept this whole-heartedly is if you work more on actual user lists. There's more gloy in that in a way because they are more personal. Sure there will be discussions but it's a forum. If someone just mentions that "so-and-so isn't horror" you can't enforce it. But this IS enforcing the belief to a great extent. So if I can't stop this, can you at least work on that more? Part of the reason I came here was because I wanted to share that, but not as another forum which might get buried with others. At least with real lists, you'll know where to find them

Plus, this gives people the right to rank the old and new horror lists. So even though the new one may be official, we can still reminisce on the old one.

Agreed. But you started ranting about influence, so I threw that in. I also stated what Aliens did to rope in the horror fans.

You're having WAY too big a hissy fit over this, as if you don't have a proper list of more than a mere 25 so the exclusion of a staunch fav of yours is ****ing up your life.

Seriously. You have nothing else in your arsenal? That's even sadder than Aliens being excluded.

Absolutely. Thanks for the productive suggestion.

I'm swamped right now, but I'm going to try super hard to make custom lists happen this year.

Blanket reminder to be civil, guys.

If you can't respond calmly and coolly, don't respond until you can, please! I don't want to lock the thread for even half a day, but I absolutely will if the replies keep escalating.

Buddy, I do have a proper list now. I went through like 100 well-recieved horror movies these few months and didn't review then because I wanted it to be a surprise. Some of them were crap, and made a top 25 were I only had to replace five of them and each movie is at least 9/10. Aliens became six for me just yesterday, and it's a very personal movie for me.

I didn't want to say this, but when I was going through a depression when I was 20 due to some serious crap out there, I watched The Godfather and Aliens and both movies taught me something. Aliens, like Alien, is a metaphor for rape, and The Godfather's practically about murder. They both taught me that the crap I went through then is not as bad as the rape and murder out there, so there's a good reason not to kill myself.

Some of that crap is happening again, and I'm not gonna lill myself but I'm not happy. I know I overreacted, but everybody has something important to them that most people would say are pointless.

I didn't want to bring it up because, well, somebody already called me a liar. I understand I blew a fuse, and it's not right. But don't think my attitude doesn't have any real background. This isn't just being mad about a movie.
