Are there any other fans of these under discussed gems????????

These 2 based on a true story serial killer flicks directed by Richard Fleischer (Fantastic Voyage, Compulsion, Soylent Green, The Vikings, Mr Majestyk, 20,000 Leagues Undre The Sea etc) are amongst my favourites in the genre.

10 RILLINGTON PLACE

Tells the story of English serial killer John Christie. With painfully deliberate pacing, the story unfolds with an eye for detail and a down to earth style. Director Richard Fleischer creates a fly on the wall and painfully real atmosphere without offering answers.

A terrifyingly controlled Richard Attenbourough delivers a no holes barred performance as the iredeemable Christie. John Hurt, in one of his early perfromance is also brilliant. The rest of the notable cast ar also in top form.

The cinematography only enhances the reality, dialogue and perfomances to drive home the story we are witnessing.

THE BOSTON STRANGLER

For this one Director Fleischer adopts a documentary style narrative and visual design. The cinematographer and editors have a field day with this one, using all media technology available at the time. Split screen, widescreen, full screen there all used here POV and minimal score give us a sense of truth and urgency about the scenes we are witnessing.

Painting an eerie picture of the man hunt to catch THE BOSTON STRANGLER the writer structures the story as an unfolding of facts with a thriller edge to it. It is all very precise and balanced for maximum impact.

As in real life and Much like "10 Rillington Place" we are offered no answers, only questions and are left to ponder what we have seen.

Henry Fonda is the man who unwillingly takes teh task of finding the killer and most of the film is his story, intercut with the latest victim being murdered in a violent way. George kennedy is believable as the man by Fonda's side. The absolute surprise is Tony Curtis who plays against type and delivers a chilling portrayal that is completly a revelation.

Fans of the latest serial killer incarnations such as SILENCE OF THE LAMBS should really check both these pearlers out as they are unmissable.

For those who have seen them. Did you like and what were your opinions......thanks.
