Song Lyrics that make you think

Now With Moveable Parts
So Right
Roll out down to midnight
Then roll on downtown 'til it's light
Because tomorrow we may die
Oh, but tonight we're dancing in the faint light
Don't you rob yourself of what you're feeling
Don't rob yourself of all that you could be
Roll hard 'til midnight
Roll 'til it's light

Come on now
Stay up and make some memories
Yeah, with us now
Roll the red carpet out with friends
To whom, to love and roll on

Our love is so right
I won't waste a minute here tonight
Our love is so right
And tonight my dance is all about you

To midnight love you,
Roll on and run the red lights
You know the game now is keep it tight

Oh, how I love your pretty rock-roll kisses
Come on and stay with me
Roll on and run the red lights
Come on, this love is so right

Stay up and make some memories
Yeah, with us now
To roll the red carpet out with friends
Oh, to love and roll on now

Our love is so right
I can taste
We're in it here tonight
Our love is so right
And tonight my dance
Is all about you

I'm going crazy
And it's all 'cause of you (it's all 'cause of you)
I'm going under, over you, over you...

This time is so alive
Everybody's tranced, dancing tonight
Oh so beautiful, and so strange
Oh, it was empty until you came...

Our love is so right
Forget the clouds that rain on your light
Our love is so right
I'll not forget how you look right now

Our love is so right
Remember let's just move together
Our love is so right
I swear it would last forever

Our love is so right
Forget the clouds that rain down on you
Our love is so right...
~Dave Matthews writes some of the most beautiful lyrics...this song moves me beyond explaination.

"If You Own the Washington Redskins, You're a C*ck" by Atom and His Package

[Here are the lyrics, although nothing compares to actually hearing the song. If you're easily offended, you may want to turn back now. However, if you have a good sense of absurd humor, this should be right up your alley.]

I like sports,
still somethings I force myself to miss
like I never met an athlete I liked
in hockey
in Texas
But when it comes to Native American mixed breed teams,
even in the context of sports it's awful and mean

And you'll go "Wah, wah, wah"
'cause you're so PC
And I will say, "Hey, wait
My my my, how have the tables turned
Something will rise to the top
'cause it's a desirable trait"

But while we're on the subject of changing team names
there's no jazz in Utah and two lakes in L.A.
Just this once, give me the benefit of the doubt
The Bulls became the Wizards?
Two idols, get out

And you'll go "Wah, wah, wah"
'cause you're so PC
And I will say, "Hey, wait
Remind me again how it came to be
that being a stupid American is a desirable trait"

Would it be offensive
if we cheered:
Rah, rah, rah, we're the Carolina Negroes
with the be-bop cheer and our big foam Afros
And the Minnesota Twins became the New York Kikes
with dollar bills on their helmets
'cause that's what they're like, you know

(spoken)
Adam, what about the Saints, Angels, Padres, too
Ain't that the same thing, for Christians, that's offending you?

(sung)
When there's a Jesus Christ mascot doll shooting crucifix
they nailed to a cross
dying to save the team

You'll be right
You'll be right
For the children

But you're not right, so:

What's your take on the Washington Redskins?
What's your take on the Cleveland Indians?

*Some of the lyrics aren't completely right. Sometimes it's hard to understand our pal Adam.

In Soviet America, you sue MPAA!
Something has to change.
Un-deniable dilemma.
Boredom's not a burden
Anyone should bear.

Constant over stimu-lation numbs me
but I wouldn't want
It any other way.

It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To feel, to breathe, to know I'm alive.

Finger deep within the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Relax, turn around and take my hand.

I can help you change
Tired moments into pleasure.
Say the word and we'll be
Well upon our way.

Blend and balance
Pain and comfort
Deep within you
Till you will not have me any other way.

It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To feel, to breathe, to know I'm alive.

Knuckle deep inside the borderline.
This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to.
Relax. Slip away.

Something kinda sad about
the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything.
What became of subtlety?

How can it mean anything to me
If I really don't feel anything at all?

I'll keep digging till
I feel something.

Elbow deep inside the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Shoulder deep within the borderline.
Relax. Turn around and take my hand.

Latest Movie Review(s): Too lazy to keep this up to date. New reviews every week.

I'm not old, you're just 12.
This is a Billy Bragg song, but these are the lyrics to the Lars Fredricksen version, they're slightly diffrent.....

To Have and Have Not

Up in the morning and out to school,
Mother says there'll be no work next year,
Qualifications once the golden rule,
Are now just pieces of paper

Just because you're better than me,
doesn't mean that I'm lazy,
Just because you're going forward,
doesn't mean I'm going backward

If you look the part, you'll get the job,
in last year's trousers and your old school shoes,
The truth is, son, it's a buyer's market,
They can afford to pick and choose

Just because you're better than me,
doesn't mean that I'm lazy,
Just because I dress like this,
doesn't mean I'm a communist

Well, the factories are closing and the Army's full,
I don't know what I'm goin' to do,
but I've come to see, in the land of the free,
There's only room for a chosen few

Well, at 21 you're atop of the scrap heap,
at 16 you were top of your class,
Well, I dropped out of high school in Campbell, California,
Got a guitar and I never looked back....

It makes ME think, anyways.

Jimmy Eat WorldBleed American

"Your House"

When you're on, I swear you're on.
You rip my heart right out.
You rip my heart right out.
I think the whole room can hear me clear my throat.
You rip my heart right out.
You rip my heart right out.
If you still care at all, don't go, tell me now.
If you love me at all, don't call.
Then out of nowhere, put me right back there.
Rip my heart out, you rip my heart right out.
And we know what happens when we get to your house.
Rip my heart out, you'll rip my heart right out.
If you still care at all, don't go, tell me now.
If you love me at all, please don't, tell me now.
If you still care at all, don't go, tell me now.
If you love me at all, don't call.
I throw away everything I've written you.
Oh anything just keep my mind off of it, thinking how I had you once.
No, I can't forget that.
Sometimes I wish I could lose you again.
You're winning me over with everything you say.
You rip my heart right out.
You rip my heart right out.
When I let you closer, I only want you closer.
You rip my heart right out.
You rip my heart right out.
If you still care at all, don't go, tell me now.
If you love me at all, please don't, tell me now.
Yeah, if you still care at all, don't go, tell me now.
If you love me at all, don't call.
If you love me at all..

Listening to this band makes my heart swell. Dunno why. But this particular song's contradictions made me listen to it carefully. Every song on Bleed American is fantastic.

Monkey Man, my brother! I love that song. Lars Friedrickson and the Bastards kick a*s. So many great songs on that CD...

I know i will catch flack for this but almost every Lincoln Park song makes me think about something(and no its not suicide... dorks)
there lyrics just do that to me
I know what you mean bud. Linkin Park are certainly thought provoking when you actually listen to the lyrics, and I am so not into the whole "Rap-metal fusion" gig. I think this one kind of sticks in my mind;

"In The End"

It starts with....
One thing / I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind / I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time
All I know....
time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It’s so unreal....
Didn’t look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on / but didn’t even know
Wasted it all just to
Watch you go.....
I kept everything inside and even though I tried / it all fell apart
What it meant to me / will eventually / be a memory / of a time
when I tried
so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter

One thing / I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind / I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I’m surprised it got so (far)
Things aren’t the way they were before
You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me
In the end.......
You kept everything inside and even though I tried / it all fell apart
What it meant to me / will eventually / be a memory / of a time

when I
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
And for all this
There’s only one thing you should know....

I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
And for all this
There’s only one thing you should know
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
And lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

That one has a superb video as well, very impressive

Great song. I'm not as rabid as most Linkin Park fans...but they've definitely got a lot going for 'em. As much as I tried not to like In the End, I just couldn't help myself.

Finally, somebody with good taste in music! All my friends listen to crap! I'm not kidding! It's all this lame rap-metal same-ness! If I hear P.O.D. one more time, the radio in my car is going straight out the frickin' window!

Amen to that. I'll keep System of a Down, but the rest can go f*ck themselves.

My favorite song off the LFATB CD (as far as I know, it's the only one they've got, and that blows) is "Subterranean."

Gordy's lightin fires, smoking dope, slashing tires
Brian Giffen's lyin' about the girls he's pullin' in
Rabbit's smoking crack, sayin' "I got a problem"
Drinkin' too much and doin' heroin

God, that song rocks. The Billy Bragg one does, too.

Yeah, The Bastards only did make that one CD. I do wish they would make more, but I'm also a huge Rancid fan, and I'd hate for them to stop making albums. (Though I've always wanted Tim Armstrong to make a solo album. I think that would kick much @ss.)

This is a sort-of oldie but a real, real goodie from Todd Snider. Anyone who has any sort of memory of the days of grunge rock, when Nirvana ruled the charts and flannels were a glamour choice, will get a kick out of this.

Although anyone who does have such memories has probably already heard of this song...

Anywho, here goes. Imagine one guy singing with just an acoustic guitar and harmonica to back him...

Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues

Hey, hey, my, my
Rock n' roll will never die
Just hang your hair down in your eyes
You'll make a million dollars

Well, I was in this band goin' nowhere fast
We sent out demos but everybody passed
So one day we finally took the plunge
Moved out to Seattle to play some grunge
Washington state that is...
Space needle, Eddie Vedder
Mud n' honey

Now to fit in fast we wear flannel shirts
We turn our amps up until it hurts
We've got bad attitudes and what's more
When we play we stare straight down at the floor
Woweee! Pretty scary
How pensive
How totally alternative

Now to fit in on the Seattle scene
You've got to do something they ain't never seen
So thinkin' up a gimmick one day
We decided to be the only band that wouldn't play a note
Under any circumstances
Silence: Music's original alternative
Roots grunge

Well we spread the word through the underground
That we were the hottest new thing in town
A record guy came out to see us one day
And just like always we didn't play
It knocked him out
He said he loved our work
He said he loved our work, but he wasn't sure if he could
Sell a record with nothing on it
I said, "Tell 'em we're from Seattle"
He advanced us two and half million dollars

Hey, hey, my, my
Rock n' roll will never die
Hang your hair down in your eyes
You'll make a million dollars

Well they made us do a video, but that wasn't tough
'Cause we just filmed ourselves smashing stuff
It's kind of weird 'cause there was no music
But MTV said they'd love to use it
The kids went wild, the kids went nuts
Rolling Stone gave us a five star review
Said we played with guts
We were scoring chicks, taking drugs
Then we got asked to play "MTV Unplugged"
You shoulda seen it

We went right out there and refused to do acoustical versions
of the electrical songs that we had refused to record in the first place...
Then we smashed our sh*t

Well we blew 'em away at the Grammy show
By refusing to play and refusing to go
And then just when we thought fame would last forever
Along come this band that wasn't even together
Now that's alternative
Hell, that's alternative to alternative

I feel stupid... and contagious

Well our band got dropped and that ain't funny
'Cause we were all hooked on drugs but were outta money
So the other day I called up the band
I said, "Boys I've taken all I can
Shave off your goatees
Pack the van
We're goin' back to Athens."

I'm not old, you're just 12.
Okay, I couldn't find any lyric sheets for this, and I really don't feel like transcribing the whole song, but...

Son of a Bush by Public Enemy is a song that must be listened to. It's easily the most important, and funniest, song this year.

"He's the son of a bad man..."

I've got a splitting headache
You had "hey, hey, my, my,
Rock-n-Roll will never die", and suddenly I thought of Neil Young

Do'h! Starting to show my age...

I think Mr. Snider wants you to think of Neil Young.

I'm not old, you're just 12.
I've always liked this song:

Do The Evolution (Vedder/Gossard)
Recorded by Pearl Jam

I am ahead,
I am advanced,
I'm the first mammal to wear pants,
I'm at peace,
With my lust,
I can kill 'cause in God I trust, Yeah...

It's EVOLUTION, baby!

I'm at peace,
I'm the man,
Buying stocks on the day of the crash, Yeah,
I'm a beast,
I'm a truck,
All the rolling hills I'll flatten them out, yeah...

It's HERD BEHAVIOR!
Its' EVOLUTION, baby!

(admire me admire my home, adnire my son, he's my clone, this land is mine, this land is free, I do what I want so irresponsibly)

WHY?
Its' EVOLUTION, baby!

I'm a theif,
I'm a liar,
There's my church, I sing in the choir...
(Hallehlujah...Hallelujah..)

(admire me, admire my home, admire my son, admire my clothes,
Appetite for nightly feasts, those ignorant indians got nothing on me...NOTHING!)

WHY?
Its' EVOLUTION, baby!

I'm ahead,
I'm advanced,
I'm the first mammal to make plans,
Crawled the earth,
Now I'm higher,
Twenty-ten watch it go to fire

It's EVOLUTION, baby!
Do the evolution...

The video for this is also pretty amazing. It's completely animated. It's on the Pearl Jam tour 2000 DVD...
