Blatant misogyny is a greater problem in Pakistan than India. Unlike India where the laws at least favour women , Pakistan has a set of laws that blatantly discriminate against women.

North West frontier province is the pashtun region of Pakistan on the border of Afghanistan. It is infested with terrorists. The few British and American journalists who dare venture there go only under armed escort. And they don't have nice things to say about the region.

You going into this region and forming a good impression of of these people gives rise to genuine concerns about your sympathies for terrorists, dani8. When I raised my concerns about you in a private message to Yoda, his response was to close the terrorists thread.

Wut??? FFS enough of your BS! Anbd how nice of you to bring the forum owner into it. Is your mum aware of how you speak to westerners on this forum? Dont bother.

Stay safe, 7. Do you have your cars packed ready to go, and how far away are the shelters?
Thanks, We have everything we need packed and car fueled up. If we evacuate we are going to stay with family up north.

I've deleted several posts.

Sarcasm is not discussion when it is unaccompanied by substance, and I'm not going to look the other way on obvious attempts to continue the lecture through technically different topics that are ultimately about the same thing.

This is the last warning.
Seriously, I don't know what I would do if sarcasm ever got banned.
What? Would I have to go out and get a REAL life or something???

Take care. Must b3 a nightmare on the road when the order goes out. Thinking of you and yours.

Population: just like with driving a car or flying a plane, training and a license should be required for people to have kids.

"You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, or drive a car. Hell, you need a license to catch a fish! But they'll let any butt-reaming a$$h0le be a father. "

- Keanu Reeves as Tod in Parenthood (1989)
Interesting concept but who would decide who can be a parent? A government committee? Social services? A church? A local community committee? Can you imagine the potencial for corruption in such a scheme? And who would decide what makes a good parent? Some people who think they are good parents I consider to be selfish twits who know nothing about bringing up kids. I'm sure others feel the same about my parenting skills so who would decide who would make a good parent and who wouldn't? Lot's of very tough questions to be resolved there eh?

I am just asking people to make a personal choice to increase population. Not forcing anything.
Ash, I did my bit - I had 3 (three!). My parents had 4 kids, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren (so far...) 😜

I think having fewer kids is because you need two working parents since salaries only stretch so far and the governments tax us to death. Developing nations have more kids because women are mostly uneducated and stay at home to care for children and home. Then you have the problem of religions which encourage the barefoot and pregnant Moms to have as many kids as possible. 7,5 billion and growing - we don't need any more humans on the planet!

Re the storm: I have friends in Florida - I really hope the storm veers off before it hits land. Just sent them an email hoping they stay safe. Sounds like a terrifying storm....😱

My paternal grandparents had 16 kids, this included 3 sets of twins, as you can imagine i now have over 100 cousins and 2nd cousins so my family have done their bit too!

There's several large forest fires in my state, Washington. The air is so smoky that I'm coughing alot. When the sun came up this morning, there was so much haze from smoke that it looked like the eclipse did a few days ago. It's very orangish outside right now and my car is covered in a fine ash too.

Yoda are you still in Seattle? Is there a lot of smoke there? I heard the full moon liked like a big pumpkin because it was orange from the sun. Did you see it?
I left seattle the day before Yoda so I also didn't see the smoke. But during my flight home we could glimpse the scope of the fires. You generally didn't see the fire directly, but rather entire hills that had a reddish glow as the smoke would light up.

I've been pretty fortunate in life to avoid most close encounters with natural disasters (no real nearby flooding, earthquakes, high winds, etc around my area), but there was a wildfire that took out a third or so of our "neighborhood" (the houses are kinda distant in the foothills), so it's easily the disaster I've come to fear the most.

I also feel guilt and shame when it comes to wildfires. When I was a kid I was using a Bunsen burner in my backyard (literally just heating up a small rock. Why? I still don't really know.) and I was at a distance to avoid getting hit by any shrapnel if the rock burst, but it meant that when it tipped over and lit up a bush I was slow to contain it and it started burning the backyard. I called the fire department after I realized it was beyond my garden hose's ability to stop, and by the time it was put out it burned probably 20,000 square feet (edit: always forget how small square footage is, it was about a third of a football field).

Since I was a child they gave me a plea deal where I went through this fire-starters program (wherein some of the kids would play with lighters DURING the classes, pyromania exists) and worked to clear the affected area of dead trees and burnt debris.

But still, whenever I see a fire get way out of control, I think about how easily I could have been responsible for something like it. If I happened to try something like that in the wilderness, it could have easily burned a hundred miles of forest and even taken out people's homes. It's honestly insane how easy it is. I was lucky that I was near roads and waterlines, but that's really all it was. I really performed the same action as the people that start these, and I feel like I got off on a technicality.

It's insane that that sort of individual bad judgement can lead to these sorts of things. Even now I don't think I fully grasp it.

Edit: I always underestimate square footage.

Laughable to think that India's laws "favour women".

I live out in the country surrounded by forest, and right now I'm looking out the window and the sky is a dirty orange-ish tan from the smoke. It looks like a dust storm, only it's not..It smells like I'm standing around a campfire, it's strange.

We're having a severe drought here. People generally don't realize that Western Washington state has a pronounced dry season every mid summer to early fall. Only the coastal areas get moisture at this time.

I hear ya. I use to live in fear of high winds in winter as we had several 100 foot fir trees that were in the back yard. One was only 20 feet from the house. Even worse some had grown leaning towards the house. After years of not sleeping during winter storms, we had those trees cut down. One of the best decisions I made....and I no longer have to sleep on the floor!

Wow, that would be scary for a kid, or anyone actually. I can't even image how scary and out of control that would feel. I was driving down I-5 freeway which is a major freeway here and there were numerous burn areas along the road, most likely from people tossing out lit cigarettes. Now that is pure stupid to do as the grass is dry as kindling right now.

Our fire season is only just about to begin. Lots of hazard reduction burning here lately. I;m in the city but surrounded by national park so shizzle gets real each summer.

Pretty impressive there was a fire starter program available for slappy. Should be available for adults as well. I was a bit of a pyro when I was a kid but all I did was light matches and flick them. Got caught by an older kid riding by and he gave me a stern talking to. Cured me instantly, thankfully.

indian society is not really favourable to women , i agree . but laws are compatible to any democratic country . this is unlike pakistan , where islamic laws apply and are openly discriminatory to women .

Makes no sense to keep comparing India to Pakistan. Worry about your own problems.

this is typical of the liberal lobby to get defensive when pakistan is mentioned but abuse india .

China has stated that if North Korea attacks the U.S. or its allies, then China will remain neutral.
However, if the U.S. or its allies attack North Korea, China will side with North Korea. Guess we know where China stands.

Where does India stand on North Korea?

I'm a liberal, and I like India. I would like to visit someday.

That sounds reasonable to me and I'm glad to hear China say that.

I read it as: If North Korea is the 1st to launch an attack on S.Korea or the U.S. or our allies, China will not take sides. But if the U.S. is the aggressor then China will side with N.Korea.

This is not only a wise policy, but wise rhetoric, as N.Korea doesn't need to be poked at as they respond with fear and fear causes dictators to do bad things.

Sounds to me like China is only on NK's side.
It won't do anything if NK starts a nuclear war and ends the world as we know it? But they'll attack any country that tries to prevent NK from starting nuclear war and ending the world. It makes China sound as insane as Kim Jong Un.
