I just saw it. I feel the movie would have been a lot better if it came out earlier, like maybe in the 90s before Braveheart, or something like that. But in 2016, it feels more like been there, seen that and the movie is behind it's time maybe. It just was made too late perhaps. Could this be one of the reasons why it didn't do so well, aside from the controversy surrounding the filmmaker?

As for whether or not Nate Parker is guilty of rape or not, in the case, his friend was found guilty but Nate was found not guilty. Now if Nate was also guilty of the crime, how come his friend never turned him to cut a deal for a shorter sentence? Is he just that good of a friend, that he was willing to take all the heat for it?
