Hate on IMDB boards is nearly unanimous. wtf?

I know a lot of people didn't like Funny Games but I never hear any good reasons why

To answer the question of the thread, I prefer the American one (never thought I'd say that) because of Watts and Roth, but between the antagonists it's a much harder choice

I've seen both, and though the American one might be a little more subdued in terms of acting, you can't deny the extra impact of hearing something in your native tongue as well as recognizable faces like Watts, Roth and Pitt. It's an interesting film just for the sole reason that it was remade shot-by-shot like that. I think its message has more resonance for American audiences though because of the fact that it seems to be directly criticizing mainstream "torture-porn".

Speaking of mainstream resonance, Haneke really needs to remake this a third time in Japanese.
