Movies that need to be seen.

That, also, is silly.

A movie's age does not make it essential viewing. I find Fight Club criminally overrated, yet I would not deny it status as essential viewing, simply for the fact that it is culturally imporant. Same with Pulp Fiction, which suffers from the same "too eager to be hip" formula. My perception of it not being a particularly amazing film is irrelevant to the notion that it is essential viewing.

Hell, I'd say Gone With the Wind is essential viewing, and I can't stand that movie.

i think that everyone has there own reason why they picked these cetain movies.. it all depends. for example.. i think everyone should see every Tim Burton Movie ever made becasue to me his style of portraying storys on the big screen are amazing. so everyone has there reason for choosing there movies. now ebertod thats your opinion but come one man the reason why people have choosen Fight Club and Pulp Fiction is becasue these movies brought a whole new style to the theater. and i must say that those tow movies are not trendy at all. they were both groundbreaking films. i dont understand where you get this 'trendy" saying from. yes i do say there are some trendy movies liek you know those f-in teen movies. but i dont understand how yuou can call fight clugb and pulp fistion trendy i think that you have no idea what trendy actuall means lol... well anyway.. back to the point.. i think people should watch Tim Burton films becasue hsi sense of story telling is amazing. so go watch those movies

Both Fight Club and Pulp Fiction are most definitely trendy films. That is not a fair criticism of them, however.

I thought K-Pax was interesting, not good. Kevin Spacey's perfomance seemed over done and dramatic - probably the writers fault.

And, beyond that, it didn't set any cliches. It only followed what had been done a million times before. To call it essential viewing is silly. This is NOT a favorite movies thread.

People have different tastes in film, but these are films that MOST film-lovers should watch.
