Now that I think about it... and have become increasingly paranoid... I'm wondering if stuff like this is intentional.
There's nothing wrong with being gay, I have gay friends (HaHa...I love that, like "I have black friends"... HeeHee, sorry, digression)
Anyways, I wonder if the business of film introduces things in small bites to make it more palatable to the masses... know what I mean?
Example:
1957, Lucy and Ricky could be shown in bed but they each had to have a foot on the floor. 2003, NYPD blue... peoples are getting the friction on. Everything in between led up to it... in very small portions.
The above is true of the silver screen as well. Do you think if homosexuality were portrayed/hinted at then it was meant as a small desensitation device?
