I don't know if you agree but this might be the year of sci-fi films??? U got oblivion which just came out last weekend,Elysium,Star Trek into darkness, After Earth, Riddick later this year, an Thor 2 The Dark World idk if you can say that's science fiction I guess it is. Then superman is kind of Sci Fi. So that would be like ten sci fi films in one year!!!! WOW! Don't think that's ever happened. oh can't forget about Pacific Rim so that's 11!!!!!!!

We've gone on holiday by mistake
The next few years will be. Especially 2015 when we see "Star Wars" and "Interstellar".

I like the science fiction films. I will not tolerate science fiction "movies" or "flicks", however. So keep those away from me. Seriously.

I am a huge science fiction fan.

The last
science fiction film was made in 1986, at least from those I watched.

Akira made in 1988 is a
movie as Ghost in the Shell in 1995, another
movie. Terminator 2, is another
film was made in 1991. Twelve Monkeys is a
. Since them, well, we had some mediocre stuff and good stuff like Moon and Sunshine, which are
+ movies. Ton o mediocre stuff.

Dark City is another
movie made in 1998.

But the last masterpieces of science fiction is a quarter of a century old (Aliens and Castle in the Sky are two
science fiction movies made in 1986).

Edit:

Oh well, I forgot, The Matrix, from 1999, is a
movie. That's it, the last great science fiction movie is 14 years old.

Though, there are the Evangelion movies, based on the anime series. I haven't watched these films but since they are a new version of the TV series, which was one of the best TV series I ever watched, I guess it might by the last
science fiction movie. My critiker recommendation engine said based on the grades given by other users with similar tastes that I will love it. Though that recommendation engine sometimes fails.

I've only given one Science fiction movie over a
, and that's 2001 (duh) which dates back to 1968. Well no La Jetée is Sci-fi which I also have 4.5, but that's all the way back to 1962. Recent years have brought us some good Sci-fi thought, Prometheus was a solid film.

What about Donnie Darko?

@Guap:
I also forgot The Matrix.

Spielberg's A.I. from 2001 is also excellent, a
+ science fiction film.

Prometheus is above average, better than Phantom Menace or Lockout* and mediocre stuff like that but I found even Pandorum more interesting.

* Mediocrity has a definition: Lockout.

What about Donnie Darko?
.
Haha, while most people would consider Donnie Darko science fiction I think it's less about time travel, than it is about mental health, and psychological ideas on time and matter. But ya for most it certainly qualifies as a sci-fi film, I can't even remember the film I used as my name, ha!

I know, there are other films besides the ones that cost over 100 million dollars.

There are probably well over a hundred science fiction movies produced in the world on an average annual basis. Though the greatest years for science fiction movies probably were:

1962 - La Jetee

1968 - Planet of the Apes and 2001: A Space Odyssey

1971 - A Clockwork Orange

1972 - Solaris

1977 - Star Wars

1979 - Stalker and Alien

1980 - The Empire Strikes Back

1982 - Blade Runner

1984 - Nausicaa and The Terminator

1985 - Back to the Future

1986 - Castle in the Sky and Aliens

1999 - The Matrix

I think that fills up all
science fiction films I have watched. The Road Warrior is another
movie but it isn't science fiction. So I think I have watched around 15 science fiction masterpieces, quite a few a might say.

As Eternal Sunshine does.

There's a lot of science fiction coming out this year, but I don't think any of it is going to be particularly great. Star Trek and Elysium should be good. Riddick should be, too, but I presently cannot think of any 2013 science fiction film that I predict will be essential genre viewing.

+1 to Guap for Pandorum. And Lockout was seriously an hour and a half of, "Well, at least Guy Pearce is in this."
