The Ring II

Messenger from Hades' Gate
Love it or hate it, the Ring was a difficult movie to ignore. This is, of course, great material for a SEQUEL!

Ringu, the Japanese version of the Ring, spawned two sequels and a prequel. This movie isn't going to be based on any of them. Also, it is supposed to serve as both sequel and prequel (through flashbacks).

A pretty tight lid is being kept on the premise, so I wonder what it will be about. Beyond that, we know it's coming out around November 10th, 2004, Naomi Watts is returning as Rachel, and that DreamWorks has hired first-time director Noam Murro, who is currently best known for the "Got Milk?" commercials featuring a spooky little boy with ESP.

They better not be remakes, i was half a sleep wen i saw the Ringu sequels but just on principle. i was very peed of at the Ringu remake as it ruined the original, so as long as these sequels are original, yay!

I'm just praying that it's better than the original (US Remake).

Yeah, I agree totally. I won't go into any further detail, because I think I've made my point already that I don't like it. However I will watch the sequel with hopes that I'll like it.

WARNING: "Description of The Ring" spoilers below
In the movie, the video that they watch shows a rings of whites light at the end. That ring of white light, "The Ring" is the last thing the little girl in the well sees when her mother closes it, and leaves her to die. So it was not a physical ring you see, but a "Ring" of light. It was essentially the most important part of the video that she shows to people.

Also..I personally(sp?) enjoyed this movie, though it was not "THE SCARRIEST MOVIE EVER!!!", however I have not yet seen Ringu, and I believe that I would enjoy that more as I have heard it is muvh scarrier(sp?) or darker. HOWEVER....I did love the scene where the little boy, after hearing that his mother helped the girl (sorry forget her name) looks up at his mother and says, "Why did you help her, you weren't supposed to help her" with a look of dread on his face. GREAT scene. The kids always know, lol. I personally can't wait for the sequel and prequel.

I didn't watch The Ring when it came out in theaters but I did rent the film when it came out on dvd. The only reason I rented it is because many people were talking about how good of a movie it was. Of course I knew I wasn't going to be scared and I proved myself right.

I don't expect big things for the sequel. But I know that I will see it. Once it comes out on dvd.

You know what...your probably right...its just too bad I had never ehard of the original before I saw The Ring..or else I would have watched it first.

BIG BIG mistake if they decide to make a sequal. It's one of those movies you just can't pull it off without ruining the thrill of the first. Not saying the first was wonderful or anything, personally I enjoyed Ringu over The Americanized version The Ring.

Variety reported, Hideo Nakata, the Japanese director behind Ringu, is in talks to take over The Ring 2. Nakata would replace Noam Murro, who left the DreamWorks sequel project earlier this week over creative differences. The Ring 2 would mark Nakata's American directorial debut now that he is no longer directing True Believers at MGM.

The Ring 2, written by Ehren Kruger, is a departure from the Japanese sequel Ringu 2.

[/spoilers]
ITS SORTA A SPOILER

This was on gregs preview on yahoo.com

Release Date: November 10th, 2004 (wide) (that's a Wednesday)

MPAA Rating Note: (9/10/03) This movie will probably be aiming for the same sort of PG-13 rating the first one received.

Distributor: DreamWorks Pictures

Production Company: Benderspink (The Ring, The Butterfly Effect, Monster-in-Law)

Cast: Naomi Watts (Rachel Keller), David Dorfman (Aidan Keller), Daveigh Chase (in talks) (Samara Morgan); other cast not announced yet.

Director: Noam Murro (feature debut)

Director Notes: (9/9/03) It's possible that Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) will not be returning as director this second time around. (11/12/03) In a curious twist, DreamWorks has hired first-time director Noam Murro, who is currently best known for the "Got Milk?" commercials featuring a spooky little boy with ESP, which in a way (visually, at least) spoof 'The Ring' (and The Sixth Sense).

Screenwriter: Ehren Kruger (The Ring, Arlington Road, Scream 3, Reindeer Games; cowriter of Impostor; he's also got The Brothers Grimm and Blood and Chocolate coming soon)

Based Upon: (9/10/03) This is the sequel to the 2002 surprise hit, The Ring, which was itself a (loose) English-language remake of the 1998 Japanese horror hit, Ringu. That film inspired a prequel, 'Ringu 0,' and two sequels, 'Rasen' and 'Ringu 2,' but this movie will not be based on any of them, but will be an original sequel, spinning off from the English-language remake.

Premise: (9/9/03) No details are currently known about this film, except that it will have something to do with the mysterious video tapes from the first movie which seemed to cause people who saw them to die seven days later. The only other things that are currently known is that journalist Rachel Keller (Watts) will be returning, and that the film will have plot elements that make it both a prequel (showing the origins of the character played by Daveigh Chase) and a sequel.

Filming: Production is scheduled to start in March, 2004 (pushed back two months from January, 2004; the original tentative start date was in late 2003).

Genre: Eye Candy, Female, Horror, Sequel, Supernatural, Thriller

Unofficial Series Fan Site: RingWorld.somrux.com

Interviews with the Producer: Cinecon.com, SciFi.com (Walter Parkes shared information about this film in both pieces)

Excerpts from the Script: Bloody-Disgusting.com (the source of this article claims to be presenting a summary of a few pages from the script; it's not verified, but sounds credible; it's normal for such excerpts to be used for casting and auditions)
