I didn't mind the last one. I never went into the theater expecting another Raiders. For what it was, I thought it was OK. Having said that, though, I haven't watched it since then. So, who knows what I would think of it now?
I, for one, am not too thrilled about Harrison Ford being replaced. This is a case where I think they should just leave the franchise alone.

Funny the reason for a lot of dooms hate is the same reason it's my favorite I happen to like the extra-creepiness of it
Same for me, the darker tone always appealed to me.

The best scene out of all of them was Indy's encounter with the old Knight and then the fight for Christs cup in The Last Crusade.

The more family-friendly and campy tone of it was largely in response to the darkness and violence of Temple Of Doom.

3) The Last Crusade
All three were solid but Raiders was an epic classic and one of the best action/adventure films of all-time.
I refuse to rank or even say the name of that other piece of manure in the franchise because it was a complete abomination. Every copy should be thrown in the world's biggest bonfire pit and burned. One of the biggest disappointments in sequel history.

All true, but they went about it in the wrong way, unfortunately. The Last Crusade isn't just family-friendly, it's pretty vapid, actually ...
I enjoy Last Crusade a lot but feel it's a little too comical and campy at times for my preferences.
The Last Crusade had its moments, but it wouldn't live up to them. I mean, it showed Indy as a kid, which is like ... wow - what's this going to be about? And then, it's all just a big joke! Like when Young Indiana Jones calls his horse, with just a whistle and the thing moves out of his way, when he goes to jump on it. Everything about that was so obviously a set-up, so devoid of any spontaneity, right off a storyboard ... and the payoff wasn't there. It just wasn't that funny. Then it's one sight gag after another with the circus train. It felt like it belonged to another franchise, honestly. Harrison Ford, himself, was pushing 50, at the time ... he was 47, maybe. So, he's getting older, as the series is getting older ... and, you know ... when you start bringing in dear, old Dad to liven things up, maybe the series is running out of steam, by that point. And using a magical cup that doesn't really do anything unless you actually drink out of it. Elsa had potential and was impossibly beautiful, even by today's standards. But I'm not sure I ever bought her motivation, especially towards the end. Her last minute ... "it's ours, Indy" and all that. Where the hell did that come from? And a certain amount of the effects work was surprisingly bad in The Last Crusade. It's like everyone making this one just ran out of gas, or something.

Those are some of the reasons Last Crusade tends to be my least liked, it lays on the levity and comedy thicker than I'd like.

Though I did really enjoy TLC also but may be for a nostalgic value probably, I always have this special fondness for the first 2 movies.

I think as with the Star Wars prequels Lucas and Spielberg were beguiled by the potential for CGI and instead of doing the fourth film like the others as Spielberg originally suggested, he opted to do a Lucas. On top of that I think the story was quite poor really, perhaps overcomplicating the aliens' backstory too much.

I don't mind the aliens so much anymore now but back when I first saw the fourth it definitely felt jarring.
