Is Cloud Atlas Good?

Re: Is Cloud Atlas Good?

Cloud Atlas is one of a kind, definitely spend the time to check it out. I always love a movie with good rewatch value. If a movie isn't worth watching twice, it's probably not worth watching at all....

Most Overrated Movies

Re: Most Overrated Movies

I'm sure Donnie Darko has been mentioned a zillion times on this thread. At least it should be. I love the movie but it's the most typical 'best movie ever' for hipster college kids who've only seen...

Re: A.I. Artificial Intelligence: What Are Your Thoughts?

It's too bad Kubrick didn't get the opportunity to finish it, tragic really. Can't stop wondering what it could have been. Overall I wasn't that impressed, had some good bits, a good idea that could...

Re: Mystery Science Theater 3000

It's so disturbing how many people don't get Starship Troopers. BRILLIANT satire. One of Paul Verhoeven's best imo.

I've had The Final Sacrifice stuck in my head for months, I have it on VHS along...

Guilty Pleasures?

Re: Guilty Pleasures?

New Rose Hotel (1998) is an extremely guilty pleasure, it's one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and the 'twist ending' is just painful... but I've seen it many times. I feel so bad for Willem...

Re: Top 20 War Movies

A really interesting post-war movie is 'The Master,' absolutely amazing performance by Joaquin Phoenix, and Philip Seymour Hoffman rocks as always. The score is a dream. Seems to very closely follow...

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... I avoided that movie for YEARS after the first viewing, just recently rewatched it. I think it touches a nerve. Great movie.

Oh man, filled in A Bridge Too Far and Enemy at the Gates this weekend, wow. Added to the list. Also checked out All Quiet on the Western Front but it was a better book than a movie in my opinion,...

Re: Worst Comedies

Death to Smoochy is just sad. I feel bad for everyone the camera is pointed at. I thought maybe I just wasn't getting it, but no. Who the hell was that movie aimed at? Not the worst comedy I've ever...

Re: Books that you would like to see made into a film?

Yeah, I actually always thought Androids would make a good stage play. I messed around with a script for that for a little while, might pick back up on it. Now I have to read Androids again, it's...

Re: Books that you would like to see made into a film?

Friggin' Neuromancer already. I think it's in development hell again, Vincenzo Natali was supposed to make it. I don't think he can handle it though, I got worried when they named him. I'm a fan of...

I don't think this was intended to be thought provoking, but I also don't put it in 'shock for shock' category. Personally I adore this movie. It's incredibly effective, that droning techno in Club...

Chris Marker's 'La Jetée' is the first that comes to mind, one of my favorite films of all time. 28 minutes. Also, a subtitled version of the entire film is available on YouTube so you can easily...

I still haven't gotten through this movie, glad I'm not the only one. It seems like one of those you have to watch in just the right mood. This movie did a lot for MIA's popularity, she rocks.

Funny, I found this today too. I usually talk movies in IRC but I'm usually hijacking the conversation, figured I should find people as obsessed as I am, haha.

I always got the impression 'A Serbian Film' was shock for shock/weird for weirdness' sake. When the effort to make it 'weird' is so overt, kind of becomes contrived. But I haven't seen it, is this...

Ugh, Eraserhead is a punishing experience. Unforgiving, unrelenting, supremely effective.

Takeshi Miike gets pretty weird, I like a lot of his stuff (Ichi the Killer, Gozu, etc).

Vanilla Sky...
