Great points, it's just good filmmaking/storytelling, and even has that sort of meta explanation for the language switch. So weird to watch that, love it, and then learn later it's thought of as one...

The 13th Warrior. More of a cool beat/moment than really integral to the plot, but it's definitely part of it. Super good, super underrated film, too.
