Fallen - I liked this interms of a single viewing it really doesn't have to much to offer after that for me at least.
Fantastic Four - If this wasn't bad enough they had to make a sequal that somehow made this look like a masterpiece that no easy feet. Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift - for me this is the best of the bunch Gridiron Gang - I'm a rock fan so yeah i like it Jumper - the rep this film has gotten has been quite harsh over the last couple of years I throughly enjoyed it nothing to original or creative but good entertainment Kingdom - Intense film really caught me off guard. The part were the unit is driving on the highway and they get ambushed is beautifully paced and increasingly thrilling. L.A. Confidential - One of the best films of all time. Out of Time - I remember being so excited by the trailer of this movie and then being so let down by the film. I recently rewatched it seeing if my view had changed it hadn't. Red Eye - what's this one like ? Secret Window - should have been a whole lot better in the end it's a decent suspense. Shooter - Warning action fan here! waiting for sequal Taking of Pelham One Two Three - Watch the original. This is good but nothing compared to it. War of the Worlds - I love the way Spielberg keeps everything close to his hip pocket never really giving you what you want. it's almost as if he's testing you to see how many imes he can get away with dissapointing you. We Own the Night - Check out Narc. I think you'll dig it. World Trade Center - Oliver Stone's done much much better if you liked this one I recommend almost anything else he's done. |
Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
It is find of ironic that you chose to comment on the majority of my bottom tier movies of my collection
of the ones you've mentioned, I'm only a big fan of Jumper, Red Eye, Shooter, and L.A. Confidential Red Eye is just a solidly fun movie. No it isn't the greatest hour and a half of cinema, but it is a fun movie to watch. World Trade Center, Out of Time, Taking of Pelham 123, and Gridiron Gang are decent collection items I suppose. The rest are in my bottom 15 of movies owned. |

Partly why I choose those films, is because that is what I found to be some of the more unique choice of your dvd collection. Partly as well I own quite a few of them and didn't feel like commenting on stuff I already own. And Partly mentioning certain others for lack of a better word would be redundent they already get there fair or more than fair share of praise. Of the ones you own I own these Bone Collector Bourne Supremacy Casino Royale Collateral Dark Knight Deja Vu Fourty Year Old Virgin Gran Torino Heat I am Legend I Robot Independence Day LA Confidential Man on Fire Million Dollar Baby Mission Impossible 3 Mystic River National Treasure No Country for Old Men Old School Pursuit of Happyness Platoon Prestige Rain Man Royal Tenenbaums Seven Shawshank Redemption Silence of the Lambs Stranger than Fiction Traffic Transformers Troy Unforgiven V for Vendetta |
Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
I have to add a lot more strong films to make my collection look good......there are some movies that I have that aren't necessarily "worthy" of being in a good collection but I bought them because I hadn't seen them before or they were a gift.

One of the toughest decisions I make now which I would have liked to have done when I first got into collecting dvd's. I would buy a movie on dvd that I loved but here's the kicker I wouldn't nesscaraly watch that film more than 2 or 3 times at most a hand full of times including commentary. I've been collecting dvd since the christmas of 1998 my first dvd was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. More than 10 years have passed and I can honestly say i've probably watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas 3 or 4 time that's it. I know tend to look at what i'm buying based off of how great the repeatability quality of the movie is rather than it being within my top hundred or what have you from an owning point of view. As an example I own James Buelishi's K-9. It hasn't even been two years and I've already watched at least 3 times that I can remember and had it on in the backgroung a few other times. I love the fact that you own bone colector, deja vu, distrubia, I Robot, national treasure, shooter and many others because well from me they all have great repeatability quality. something you can go back to rather than something you can say you have and own in your collection. |
Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
I agree. I do have a lot of movies that sure aren't the finest films of all time, but they are just simply fun to watch (deja vu, wedding crashers, lucky ones, disturbia, independence day, etc. etc.

Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
Great start its a good collection. One question wasn't it you that called some of the movies you own overrated and bad: (Blood Diamond, Platoon) Just curious if I'm wrong sorry.

Indeed it was. That's what is weird about my collection: I do not necessarily love every movie in it. Blood Diamond was given to me as a gift which I hadn't seen the movie before and didn't really like it too much (it DOES need a rewatch though). Platoon I bought in advance of ever seeing it before ($5) and just wasn't totally impressed. |
Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
I have now added Rear Window and GoodFellas (never seen) to my collection
|
Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
Enjoy them, r14, a couple of good films there.

Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
Heat was a great add to my collection as I just watched it for the first time today
|
Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
Yep, I liked Heat too.

Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
5 spots left on my tower (till I get another one)
Thinking of what movies to fill it with (North by Northwest seems like a good choice) |

Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
I don't know there are a few I've been looking towards getting (North by Northwest, Dial M for Murder). I'm thinking about the Hitchcock box set but I might just want the movies individually.
I was also thinking that I need to add The Hangover at some point in time as well. I could always go the route of buying random movies with good reputations that I haven't seen before and see how that works out as well. Who knows, I'm confused with what to do hah. Any suggestions based off of what I have? (Yes I need some more classics as well) |
Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
Well you've got Mann's Heat and Collateral you should check out Manhunter espically because you’ve also got Silence of the Lambs which it parallels to some degree. Another serial killer movie you own
is David Fincher's Se7en have you seen Fight Club or Zodiac. Maybe pick up something by Kubrick Full Metal Jacket, A Clockwork Orangeand The Shining. How about the New Star Trek film Big blockbuster fun i'd go with The Day After Tomorrow, The Fugitive, The Great Escape, The Guns of Navarone, The Hunt for Red October, The Poseidon Adventure. Traffic - If you liked this film then there's little you wont like about other Soderbergh films. Maybe go with Out of Sight or The Limey its extremely experimental. Troy - Not sure if your into war films or not but the same director who did Troy made an amazing Submarine film called Das Boot. Its foreign so if subtitle are an issue it will be an issue Denzel Washington Training Day, The Siege, Courage Under Fire, Devil in the Blue Dress, Crimson Tide, Glory, Philadelphia and The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three are all worthy Denzel Washington DVDs to own. Some off the cuff recommendations Bullitt Escape From New York Koyaanisqatsi Lord of War Open Range Once Upon a time in the West The Right Stuff Stripes John Carpenter’s The Thing Three Kings Tremors What’s Up Doc The Warriors |
Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
I've written a few of the movies that sound pretty good down. I wasn't a big fan of Traffic (bought it initally without seeing it) so I probably won't like any other Soderbergh stuff I'm guessing.
At some point i've definitely got to add Glory, Malcolm X, and Training Day I haven't seen Once Upon a Time in the West and Das Boot, but I've heard good things. The Shining sounds like a good add but haven't seen it as well. I've seen Zodiac, Fight Club, Crimson Tide, and Courage Under Fire but don't know if I want any of them |
Since you're obviously a big Rachel McAdams fan I suppose you just plain haven't gotten around to Mean Girls or The Notebook, but one that may have gotten by you completely is the Canadian TV series "Slings & Arrows", where she co-stars in the first season (and appears in the first episode of the second season). Definitely worth tracking down.

Re: rauldc14's DVD Collection
I've seen parts of Mean Girls and The Notebook, but as a 22 year old male it may be a bit too much to have in my collection. Slings and Arrows looks great might have to check it out.
Thanks for showing the McAdams thread! |
