Re: Thundercats The Movie......

I liked Thundercats when I was eight and didn't have better taste. I can't imagine that a movie will be anything other than awful. Is it really necessary for every old cartoon to have a big screen revival? What's next, Teletubbies: The Movie? :indifferent:

I know what you are saying, I mean Teletubbies The Movie would be ridiculous but Thundercats The Movie is gonna be great! Well, I think so anyway but I guess that's cos I have a fondness for those 80's cartoons.

Maybe it is just the childhood memories that they bring back rather than the quality of cartoon? I don't know but either way I am really looking forward to this movie....and the He-Man movie and the Transformers movie which I still haven't seen yet.

Anyone been to see it? What's it like?

I would like to keep my nostalgic fondness for them by *not* seeing the movies...

I can totally see your point there.

I think it'll be great if they have most of the original voices and the original theme tune, basically if they keep it as true to the original series as possible.

yes. original theme tune and looks are essential for this movie to work. Changing them to try and make the movie look "cool" will result in looking like it was made in the mid 90's.

cos during that era, making all cartoon heros wear black suits was cool. not anymore.

superman was wise in sticking to the original look and not give him a black suit or anything like that.

Sticking to how the comics and cartoons looked will retain all the charm and will feel like a thundercats movie.

It's just...Thundercats. They're cats. How is this not going to look completely ridiculous?

I just hope their thundrillium doesn't get turned into... thundranium.

If this movie can meet the high standards set by the soulful voice acting and keen design sense of the original, I will be more than happy, I will be ecstatic

with special effects, great acting, directing and script, it will be superb.

Going back to my superman example.....they knew the red pants and blue tights looks silly in real life so this is why we have gifted costume designers and cinematographers.

They retained the original superman look but tweaked it slightly.
The costume lady even said they were careful not to lose his manliness.
Reeve bulked himself up before shooting cos in the screen tests he looked skinny.

If u look at the early superman costumes on the special features (reeve) they looked very bad. They were flimsy and looked like pyjamas. :modest:

Reeves acting skills and body posture helped a lot. The cast was great. Donners vision superb. Williams music needs no introduction.

thundercats will just look like half beast, half man. U seen werewolf movies i'm sure. They look scary no? And have a look at sabretooth (was that his name?) in x-men. He looked fantastic.

I agree with you fbi.

It's gonna be a CGI-animated feature, not a live action movie by the way.

I am looking forward to it anyway!

Thundercats, ho! :-)

Well i heard they signed on Martin Scorcese, who simply demanded the talents at Industrial Light and Magic. Paul Haggis just finished the script, but is about to go back for rewrites at the request of Mr. Depp, Mr. Hoffman and Mr. Pacino.

So, yeah, im pretty sure this movie will actually turn out well.

Re: Thundercats The Movie......

yes it is..they are a group of survivors of the planet Thundera. and Lion-O the sole heir of the throne will be its leader. in the animated series Lion-O is still young when they escape Thundera. and with the guidance and help of his fellow "cats" (panthor - in combat skills, Cheetarah - in speed, Tigra - in Wisdom) Thunder-O grew up an excellent Leader and warrior. and Im definitely wait on this one..is it a live movie or CGI like the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

oh noooooo......! I hate animation. They are getting dry now. Why not use real actors combined with cgi like lord of rings?

'Thundercats'

It's Thundercats, ho! at Warner Bros. Studio has optioned a script by tyro scribe Paul Sopocy to turn the popular 1980s animated series and toy line into a CGI-animated feature.
Warner-based Paula Weinstein will produce through her Spring Creek Prods. banner, along with Dick Robertson and Lew Korman.
Property revolves around a group of humanoid cats (with feline names like Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro and Cheetara) who must flee their planet of Thundera after it's destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off.
Sopocy has written the script as an origin story expanding on the major heroes and villains from the animated series, with the plot focusing on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats.
Project was brought to Warner by Palek Patel, VP at Spring Creek. Dan Lin is overseeing the pic for Warners.
The Thundercats franchise began in 1983 and spawned several animated series, with the most recent airing on Cartoon Network, a toy line produced by LJN and comicbooks published by Marvel and DC imprints. Warner Bros. has owned the rights to the animated series since acquiring Telepictures Corp. in 1989.
Studio's recently been bitten by the nostalgia bug, pacting with Joel Silver to produce a live-action "He-Man" movie, based on the toy and cartoon franchise, as well as a feature based on the DC comicbook "Teen Titans," a junior Justice League.
Weinstein most recently produced Warners' "Blood Diamond," and with HBO Films is prepping "Recount," based on the 2000 presidential election, with Sydney Pollack set to direct.
"Thundercats" is Sopocy's first studio script sale as a screenwriter. He's currently senior writer, print advertising, at Fox Broadcasting Co.

Not enough for ya? Here's a link to the website that has a tenetative release date and not much else right now I'm afraid but you can sign up and give cast suggestions for what that's worth.

I hope this works. Recently these sort of movies haven't been released in a while, so thats some hope. But most of all films like these are very sensitive and very hard to release when it comes to the box office results, because films like these have a hard time getting a storyline put together.
