What are your favorite TV shows/series still running?

I watch a lot of sitcoms, so not allowing them limits my list quite a bit, but these are some of my favorite current TV shows:

This Is Us
A Million Little Things
Bull
The Rookie
The Good Doctor
Chicago Fire
Instinct
Elementary
God Friended Me
NCIS: New Orleans
S.W.A.T.
The Orville
Manifest
Better Call Saul

My sitcoms list would have included:
The Big Bang Theory
Young Sheldon
Mom
Happy Together
The Neighborhood
Murphy Brown

Also, the reality shows on my list would be:
America's Got Talent
The Voice
The Carbonaro Effect
Adam Ruins Everything

Law & Order: SVU...21 seasons, still going strong.

SeeingisBelieving 01-30-19 11:38 AM

I'm enjoying Line of Duty, which I'm catching up with after seeing the fourth series. There are apparently two more to come, the fifth being broadcast this year.

Ozark next - brilliant.

GOT - will be glad though when it’s done.

Either haven’t seen the rest on your list or do not like the show.

HOC is ending, but I have yet to see the final season. Loved it.

A show with a shorter run time per eppy is Veep, which has been brilliant & is soon to end.

Another terrific show is Succession HBO. First season is brilliant.

'co-creator Baran bo Odar posted on Instagram that principal photography has wrapped up for Dark season 2. Bo Odar said that they started production in November and filmed for a total of 92 days.'

'With Dark season 2 now in post-production or editing, the target release date of June 2019 seems feasible. In due time, viewers and fans of the German series should be able to see the first teaser from Netflix.'

Nothing really concrete, but it's something.

I don't seem truly hooked on as many shows as I used to watch. Well, since joining mofo last year, I think I'm watching a lot more movies :) And there's actually some reruns I can't resist re watching: like Murder She Wrote, Becker, and The Mary Tyler Moore show. And some of the shows I like aren't traditional one hour drama shows, but I' ll put them on the list anyway.

Narcos and Better Call Saul are my favorites. Ozark is very good, Thrones, the Punisher, Man in the High Castle, Veep and Silicon Valley (although they have dropped a bit in recent seasons) and my guilty pleasure is still Survivor (I hate it but am uncontrollably drawn to it).

JoaoRodrigues 03-22-19 12:26 PM

I haven't seem most of them, just Game of Thrones, Narcos, Better Call Saul and Gomorra.
Gomorra is my favorite of all, maybe because I'm European, and the theme is interesting. The first season was my favorite, second was a bit disappointing with some great moments/happenings, third had very good episodes, like Inferno.
Game of Thrones is a bit of a disappointment, so many people talking about it, thought I would be top five series of all time, it was not.
Better Call Saul is also very good, Saul Goodman was the most interesting character in the entire Breaking Bad, in my opinion, very charismatic personality, very articular, great survival skills and a great entrepreneur. It was good ground for a director to step on, a dirty lawyer.
Narcos is one of the best recorded series of all time, with the exception of The Sopranos maybe, the storytelling was clear and though-full, the plot was interesting, the main actors were bravely and greatly chosen.
I would had Shameless, even knowing it became a drag, worth the mention. Also True Detective.

Became a drag in this latests seasons. More of the same old drama.
I really enjoyed the series at the beginning, lots of drama, and constant information for my monotonous life. After what, fifth season?... became the same old, same old. They are just recycling bad storylines.

Gideon58 03-22-19 01:21 PM

But even recycled Shameless storylines are infinitely more entertaning than 90% of most of the drek on television.

JoaoRodrigues 03-22-19 01:57 PM

Well, that depends on the entertainment. I find GoT very entertaining, but not a good series.
Shameless should have ended by now, I hope they make one last series many years from now.
WARNING: spoilers below
Fiona left, Carl with that girl, Lip trying to be a man with a kid on the way and recovering from alcoholism, Debbie being the new Fiona, Liam out the house progressing intellectually, Ian with Mickey in jail, Veronica & Kevin with kids to raise serving the same drunks at the Alibi and Frank the same old same old. Even this Fiona leaving is the actors asking for a break.

Seems you like the more realistic crime series. So I definitely recommend Peaky Blinders and La Casa de Papel. Ozark is like 'Breaking Bad Light'.

You've just made me think of a nice quote by the Master in Doctor Who – which is the show I'm talking about. He's on Earth posing as a businessman and someone says "So you're a magician as well as a colonel?" He replies "I am many things".

Luckily I'm a fan of many things, so it's not been too desolate without what was my favourite show.

Yes.
Infact there are two options. There's the original with English subs and then there's an English dubbed version.

I would urge you to watch the original with the English subs, instead of the dubbed version. A few of my Non-Indian friends who watched it hated the dubbed version.

Could be anything, flashback, a chapter of his life story we haven't seen in the series, saw a little boy in the trailer, I suspect that's supposed to be Ciro as a kid so I'm guessing maybe 'Ciro the early years' coming up story.

Yes starring, written by and directed by Marco D'Amore.

Here's a new trailer.

I think from the trailer alone we can agree that they recovered his body, and he probably didn't die after all. Marco D'Amore is not a good actor, that's my opinion, I think he have the looks and style, but he tries to hard, everything looks fake, the facial expressions, the walking, it should have less vanity. I hope they don't make this over dramatized, keep it raw, european like, like the series basically.

Stirchley 11-22-19 01:56 PM

Re: Best TV Shows still running

⬆️ Marco D’Amore is a fantastic actor. He made Gomorrah for me & it’s gonna be hard watching the show without him. An American show would never have killed off his character while the show is still going.

JoaoRodrigues 11-22-19 04:56 PM

Re: Best TV Shows still running

No one questioning the quality of the show Gomorrah, I also agree, if this was made in America it would be ruined already. The cinematography is great, incredible sometimes actually, how they film cars, vehicles in general is stupendous, the plot is great, the soundtrack helps a lot as well, the action is very good, I don't agree that Marco D' Amore is a great actor, but is my favorite character in the entire show.

I liked how they transformed Gennaro, or how the actor managed to do that, I didn't thought it would be possible, I was underestimating the actor potential possibly. I wasn't liking the character very much, this last season made me think again.

His growth from dopey son to lethal killer was interesting & believable to watch. Not sure I like him, but he’s fascinating to watch.

No spoilers since I haven’t seen the latest season yet, but I adore Patrizia & cannot wait to see what she is doing now.

Survivor is still very much a guilty pleasure of mine...

Although the show has lost much of it's soul at this point and forgotten much of what it was originally about, but I guess that is to be expected as it has evolved over the course of 20 years. Had it not, it probably would have stagnated and died long before now.

At this point, still follow the new seasons as they come out, but rarely if ever would want to revisit any of the seasons that have come out in the last 4-5 years, and mostly if do want to revisit a seasson it is nearly always from the first 10years of the show. it's a bit like pizza - good pizza, you remember where you got it from and will go back there, and even bad pizza is better than no pizza at all! :D

Yes, she is. Fairly sure she will never attain to the level of worship as her mother, but she’s a competent actress. Not sure if she has ever carried a movie or that she could do so.

-Fargo - but like True Detective, only the 1st Season was good and the Trailer for S4 of Fargo doesn't look very good or interesting either.

Hello from a fellow survivor fan.
Winners at War was quite satisfying.
I am glad that the game has evolved, where people really appreciate good gameplay and the concept of bitter jury rarely exists anymore. I thoroughly enjoy it, and it's my favourite reality show.

Re: Best TV Shows still running

EVIL, an Urban Fantasy/Horror show about a forensic psychiatrist and a seminarian who research incidences of demonic activity for the Catholic Church, was on NBC now the first season is showing on Netflix. A second season is supposed to be in the pipeline.

This show has fantastic writing by the Kings who wrote THE GOOD WIFE. A sexy leading couple who are not together but have great chemistry. And a stellar supporting cast. Christine Lahti is great as the rockin’ grandma. But the stand out is Michael Emerson as the evil forensic psychiatrist, foil to the main character and boyfriend to the rockin’ grandma.

It even has moments of actual moral ambiguity in it which even made me uncomfortable. The good guys are not wholly good but the bad guys are completely evil.

I can’t recommend this enough and can’t wait for the second season.

It’s in the news here every day. I wonder if it’s because people relish seeing people much worse off than themselves in times of crisis? We have the COVID crisis right now so I wonder if this is a factor.

From what I've read it's an extreme reflection of society. The audience can sympathize with characters from different socioeconomic classes being overpowered by 'capitali$m'.
