Albums Countdown Redux?
 

Not gonna write a novel here as everyone knows the deal already, just gauging interest as i'd love to do it personally. How many of you are interested in a redone Albums Countdown? If there's not much interest then this thread can just die, think it could be good though if enough of us take part. Just post if you're interested in sending one then we can discuss rules (don't really think there should be many rules) and amount of albums per list and whatever.

Note: Accepting lists of either 50 or 25, whichever is manageable. You can start sending them to me whenever you like haven't set a deadline yet however.

Please put the artist first on your lists, thanks.

The deadline is Saturday August 11th at 11.59 GMT

OK so this is the over-analytical side of me coming through, but when you say "new" do you mean a new list of albums? or a new album (only new albums, say in the last decade) list? lol. SORRY!!!!

I would just copy my list for the last countdown, since I haven't listened to anything new.

New as in second Countdown. Pick Albums from whenever you want.

There could be a choice between 50 and 25 though as we were discussing in the Shoutbox in case you'd want to extend it.

I take it EPs and Singles are out, but what about Compilation albums?

I have no objection if no one else does. Don't want to restrict this, at the same time though i don't want to make it too broad as it could be very difficult to get any sort of consensus to actually put a Countdown together.

I'm just the compiler and presenter i'm not gonna set the rules myself everyone can have an equal say in them. Will only step in if a decision has to be made to move forward.

my only rule consideration might be to draw a distinction between personal favorite albums (even if not historically significant) and historically good albums (even if not a personal favorite). I remember reading comments where users might have listed differently had they approached it one way or another in other lists.

Just something to help get the ball rolling.

There can't really be a rule for that can there? Think each individual needs to make that distinction themselves. I don't mind whichever people go for but personally i'll be going for favourites, don't give a crap if something is historically significant if i never want to listen to it.

Was considering a Live Album myself so i'm cool with it.

What's peoples opinions on 25 or 50 per list? Keep in mind if we go for 50 i'll still accept lists of 25, just means those that want a bit more can have it.

Yeah @ynwtf good luck getting me to not make my choice based entirely on my personal favs. With all the emotions. :lol:

I suppose I'm interested. Never done any countdowns here but it's just making a list of 25/50 best albums, send it, wait for the organizer to compile all lists and watch the reveal of top albums while realizing none of yours were nominated by anyone else? :D

You got it! Like i said i have no issue with like minded individuals coordinating in an attempt to get some lesser known shared favourites onto the list, as long as it's done in private. Not that anyone would care enough to do so just saying as it's been brought up before.

Just putting this out there, but if you ever log in and see a name like "militant otter" or some variation of those keyword topics, it's probably just me. One, I think I need to change my name to something furry to better match Chypmunk and Cat. Two, the militant type would be camouflaged.

One more question. When people send their lists should be they ordered or is it just one point for each album mentioned?

Ordered please. 50 or 25 for your #1 depending on how many we do down to 1 point for your #25 or #50.

I was gonna exclude them, but FnL and Goodfellas are great. The Drive soundtrack is kinda original music, but after a couple tracks it's just Cliff Martinez getting weird with the ol' cristal baschet.

Nah, hopefully with a new crowd and if a lot send one we'll get a decent range. I'd be surprised if Fleetwood Mac for instance got no representation.

I'm not even sure if I'd vote for a Fleetwood Mac album though. They made some great music back in the day, but ever since they fired Lindsey Buckingham their name leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I'd drop the track requirement and use only 25+ minute length. There are lots of albums with 1-4 tracks only in certain genres.

Shooter Jennings and bluegrass is as close as I get to country and Shooter makes more bad albums than good.


I mean, I thought Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton were married when I was young. Why else would they sing together so much?

I've only heard bits and pieces of Shooter's music, as I've been on the cautious side and avoided most of his music for the reason you mentioned. Bluegrass is great... but what exactly keeps you away from country? It's a massive genre that has to have something for everybody tucked away waiting for prying eyes (ears).

I really have to give Country a proper shot myself, will probably listen to some of your list jj. Not for the Countdown though, going for things that are already established favourites.

I grew up with country, so I've had no problems adjusting to it when I went back at it. However, I get how it can be a hard genre for folks who didn't grow up with it or are not from the States. If you need help finding an artist to get you into it, shoot me a PM and I'll try to help you find a good kick start.

I just don't listen to music much anymore. I like the old outlaw country, but I don't listen to much of anything that isn't some form of talking. Then again, I never thought of the Eagles as country but I get the feeling most do.

This is a favorite of mine though...

Waylon is bad-ass. Bit of a trivia: Waylon in The Wire is played by Steve Earle, a country/country-rock artist, whose character is named after Waylon Jennings.

That song is so aggressive with that driving guitar sound. I love it.

Was thinking about the 25 or 50 issue since i think it's the main roadblock to people starting to send lists. If you want to send 50 then go ahead but in the end i may only use your top 25 because if we go for 50 the minimum to make the Countdown has to be extended to at least 50 points and on at least two lists, if most send lists of 25 that's going to be almost impossible to achieve with the maximum amount of lists i think we could get. So it really depends on how many would be willing to send 50.

This is the best album countdown, not the best album cover countdown!
