Name the Director

Post a gif / series of gifs / or pictures. Next poster has to guess the Director.

I'll start with a very easy one:

I don't know who's turn it is, but...could we please follow the example of Scarlet Lion and post several gifs from a director in one post? If we just post one gif then it becomes a game much like guess the film from the screen shot. However with several gifs from different movies, it gives players more of a chance of knowing at least one of the gifs.

Gideon58 10-02-18 02:17 PM

I agree with Citizen and I think it's MovieGal's turn.

That is a young Michael Madsen from the opening scene of WarGames in the picture above. Other John Badham movies not pictured include Short Circuit, Stakeout, Another Stakeout, Nick of Time, the Frank Langella Dracula, and The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings.

Well, your 3rd picture is of the gorgeous Jean Peters in the noir: Pickup on South Street, with Richard Widmark. The director was Samuel Fuller. I'm not as familiar with the other flicks, although I bet I've seen some of them...:)

It's the first picture that comes from the ending of a great film that wows me. IMO it's one of the most iconic in all of the 1940s films. If I mention the actors in the scene, you'll know it right away.

Gideon58 10-08-18 11:47 AM

You gave it away with Oliver!...Sir Carol Reed

Yes, y'all do. It was the final sequence of The Third Man, when Anna Schmidt (Valli) is walking back to town after Harry Lime's (Welles) funeral. Holly Martins (Cotton) had asked to be let out of Maj. Halloway's Jeep (T. Howard), because we wanted to wait for Anna to catch up, so that he could reconcile with her. Instead, she walked right past him as a snub for shooting Lime.

Carol Reed was a wonderful atmospheric director. My second favorite film of his was The Fallen Idol (1948) with Ralph Richardson, Michele Morgan, and the young Bobby Henrey.
