Speed (1994), Patton (1970), Top Gun (1986), Memento (2000), Conan The Barbarian (1982), and Major League (1989), are my favorites you chose for your list @John-Connor so far. With my most recently watched being Conan The Barbarian. The rugged environments look badass, Sandahl Bergman was hot, and an amusing role for Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I've seen Wag The Dog (1997), The Leopard (1963), Ben-Hur (1959), Dead Poets Society (1989), The Untouchables (1987), and Blow Out (1981) also. How delightful and rare to find a film that understands the value in superficially lowering the stakes; in telling a story exactly the size it is prepared to fill, and foregoing the hollow impersonation of scope you get from the eradication of increasingly prominent landmarks. This is a character-centric story where the animals have more humanity than most other films' humans. No small part of the credit goes to the effects team, which has created entirely believable apes that react and emote in sometimes heartbreaking, always impressive ways.

The music rocks, the theme is still played today and is immediately associated with the film. There are many memorable scenes, too many to mention and the overall feel of the film has numerous re-watch capabilities. When people think of John Hughes, the one film I think that they will immediately go to is The Breakfast Club. Not only was it the film the teenagers of the 80's could relate to, but it's a film that will live on and touch the hearts of many others. It's funny, depressing and emotionally challenges you. It doesn't treat you like an idiot, Hughes knew his audience and treated the kids with the intelligence he knew they had.
