I spend way too much time on the net and come across way too many links, so instead of posting them each time I find them I'll just create this potluck of joy!

Today we have up...

For entertainment:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/~soldier/towboat.htm - Incredible tug boat action.
http://www.p-p-p-powerbook.com/ - The best Ebay story ever, may be only for nerds.
http://public.hbk-bs.de/~baumgarn/zoomquilt//zoom.htm - The zoom experiment in art.
http://www.musicplasma.com - Find related bands/artists, very cool.

For Nerds:
http://collisiondetection.net/ - Well written tech/pop culture blog.

Random:
http://uploads.ungrounded.net/190000/190465_egg_song_English_2.swf - Egg Song?

Double edit: So the list isn't all that massive because my upload is slow and I don't have much of an attention span, this first batch...right click and save target as to save me bandwidth:

http://www.basement-films.net/vids/IntroBillabongOdyssey.wmv - Awesome intro, as the title implies.
http://www.basement-films.net/vids/dobre-ubezpieczenie.mpeg - Silly car insurance commercial.
http://www.basement-films.net/vids/yuri_harmonica.swf - I dare you to try to listen to this only once.

Hehe, yah that guy rules. A friend of mine is a pretty damn good beatboxer, I forced him to record a couple random things a while ago. He does a pretty good cover of If Your Mother Only Knew by Razel:

http://itcantendlikethis.com/Joe/mother2.wav

Beat and singing at the same time...I can't even do a freeking beat yet alone vocals at the same time.

t'is a shame, but not all are sitting idle there has been recent pushes for alternative power sources than coal + nuclear that don't damage the environment. There are some scientists trying to make a difference there just aren't very many of them.

All we can do is recycle and use public transport more. Encourage environmental protection and even go to protests in our local area. I went to a protest about the logging of a huge natural rainforest in Tasmania (small island beneath Australia), I think we really made a difference because the Government has negotiated with environmental groups recently. Hope I didn't go on too much of my own tangent there, keep posting the vids, they're funny as hell :D

"actu-laughed" I think that is quite possibly the nerdiest 'word' I've ever read. You sound like you belong in Tron.

Yoda
11-03-04, 09:15 PM
It's a necessary word. Clearly, many people are using "LOL" while not actually "laughing out loud." Bastards.

I've actually never seen Tron, but I'm pretty sure I've just been insulted, in which case you can expect an avatar of Kerry and Edwards making out in your Inbox by the end of the night.

This is why I return to the forums. People actually care and remember things about certain people..

Hi all, borrowing a space in OGs link thread for this very interesting article about some changes that could possibly (the house already has a majority vote in favor apparently) come about in the old US concerning biometric I.D., border barriers, and immigration crackdown....

Real I.D. for an all too real world... (http://www.reason.com/links/links021605.shtml)

OG-
02-17-05, 07:21 PM
Thanks for the link, Sedai. It was an interesting read and brought up some interesting point, though it is rather biased. Especially with the red bolding of words like they're fact. I may not like Bush, but I wouldn't try to pass off such editorial pieces as real journalism when they end with statements like this:

"...of what George W. Bush insists his administration stands for: "the guiding ideal of liberty for all."

But that's just me...

A Website That (http://www.cfgoa.org/us/bulletin/#IS8945b) had me really excited - at first. As everyone knows, I love me some deep sea creatures so reading the description in that first paragraph sounded really, really badass. Then I clicked the pictures and was wounded by the lies. Look at the picture for a bit, just as I was thinking about how photoshopped it look the url redirects to a Game's website. Don't mess around when it comes to deep sea creatures! Though the game does look pretty badass, at least when that creatures crawls into the guy's mouth.

03-22-05, 11:29 AM
Thanks for the link, Sedai. It was an interesting read and brought up some interesting point, though it is rather biased. Especially with the red bolding of words like they're fact. I may not like Bush, but I wouldn't try to pass off such editorial pieces as real journalism when they end with statements like this:

"...of what George W. Bush insists his administration stands for: "the guiding ideal of liberty for all."

But that's just me...

Hmmm, I find Reason.com's coverage to be quite unbiased, actually. Also, the red bold words are links, corroberating the claims the author is making. For instance, the section you quoted has the word insists linking a transcript to a state of the union address where, and the quote is directly from President Bush. The link points to Whitehouse.gov, and the quote is in the second paragraph of the transcript.

I have found Reason to be quite unbiased and they back up all their info with valid links from the sources thay are citing. This ID issue is real, and is in legislation right now. In the article they cited the actual sections of the bills in question... I t should be at least slightly unnerving to some folks I would think. :yup:

Regardless...Thanks for checking it out...

So again I say..... Yikes!!!!

It's an alligator gar, which is a type of fish. Gar are pretty much all over the US and are fairly ugly fish, though that is the first time I've seen one of those.

When I was younger (whatever age kids learn to walk at) I almost lost a limb to an Alligator Snapping Turtle:

http://www.fws.gov/midwest/middlemississippiriver/snapping_turtle.jpg

We were staying at a friend's lake house, I had woddled down to the lake to pet it and my dad grabbed me away right as I was reaching for it. And to teach me the lesson as to why I wasn't supposed to touch it he stuck a broom handle in front of it's face and it bit it in half. Weeeee....

I also jumped off the dock into said lake later that day. I was an adventerous kid. I've almost drowned some 6 or 7 times, lol. Though only one of those times was after I had learned to swim and that's because I went walking into the Mississippi and just sank in the mud, luckily my dad again came to the rescue as he saw me vanish out of site instantly.

For those interested in attending, it's on May 7, 2005, 10:00pm EDT (08 May 2005 02:00:00 UTC) in the East Campus Courtyard at MIT. 42:21:36.025N, 71:05:16.332W (42.360007,-071.087870 in decimal degrees)."

Cool Star Wars site that posts all the original drafts for the first film. Reading the first or second draft is quite a different experience. Join Luke Starkiller on his home planet of Utapau, as he battles a pirate-like Darth Vader (who carries a flask of booze around with him) , storms the Imperial Planet of Alderaan, and flies his starship against the Deathstar while helping Threepio and Capt Antilles destroy the Death Star (!!!). Watching the story change ver the various drafts is pretty cool.

Here is the opening crawl from the second draft (The first is WAY different, and seems like a different story altogether):

The REPUBLIC GALACTICA is dead. Ruthless trader barons, driven by greed and the lust for power, have replaced enlightenment with oppression, and "rule by the people" with the FIRST GALACTIC EMPIRE.

Until the tragic Holy Rebellion of "06", the respected JEDI BENDU OF ASHLA were the most powerful warriors in the Universe. For a hundred thousand years, generations of Jedi Bendu knights learned the ways of the mysterious FORCE OF OTHERS, and acted as the guardians of peace and justice in the REPUBLIC. Now these legendary warriors are all but extinct. One by one they have been hunted down and destroyed by a ferocious rival sect of mercenary warriors: THE BLACK KNIGHTS OF THE SITH.

It is a period of civil wars. The EMPIRE is crumbling into lawless barbarism throughout the million worlds of the galaxy. Fromthe celestial equator to the farthest reaches of the GREAT RIFT, seventy small solar systems have united in a common war against the tyranny of the Empire. Under the command of a mighty Jedi warrior known as THE STARKILLER, the REBEL ALLIANCE has won a crushing victory over the deadly Imperial Star Fleet. The Empire knows that one more such defeat will bring a thousand more solar systems into the rebellion, and Imperial control of the Outlands could be lost forever...

Starkiller (http://www.starwarz.com/starkiller/)

EDIT: I have been digging around and reading on the site, and the early drafts are quite interesting. The one I am reading now opens during the clone wars, with Annikin and his father, KANE STARKILLER. They have a run-in with a random sith knight and then set off for Aqulaie. I read the first few pages and then skimmed though some of the rest. Luke Skywalker is a different character altogether in this version, a general who has already won victories vs the empire. The story is way different, but some of the familiar elements are starting to crop up. Very interesting stuff to see how it evolved into what we know as Star Wars.
