A good friend of mine pointed me to an amazing piece on the geometery of my favorite album of all time, Tool's Lateralus. If I could piece it all together like the writer did, I would in a second, but unfortunately I don't have the time or patience to in the upcoming weeks. Anyways, anyone who even has a passing interest in Tool or musical composition in general, give this (http://www.musicmademe.com/reviews.php?act=show&reviewid=9921) a read. If everything he talks about, composition wise (ignore the bit about the story being told, that's up for interpretation) was intentional on the part of Maynard and Danny Carey, they're gods.

I did some rough mixing/reordering of some mp3s and I can honestly say after listening to the re-arrangement of Ticks And Leeches with Mantra and reading what he had to say about Mantra, it actually scares me to listen to Mantra. It freaks me out now.

I work at this place where you can sell your things and I'm amazed at how many druggies come in looking to sell crap. I'll admit it's an assumption but when you look at their ID card, which they usually look healthy in, and then you look at them they look like shriveled up hollow versions of the person on the card. Meth definitely fcks your sht up. :(

OG-

Pretty interesting link, Sedai. It'd be nice to know what an accurate statistic of meth use in the U.S. is as compared to other narcotics, because I doubt it is any more so an epidemic than others are. It's tough to bash the DEA, they are trying, but hyperbolic websites and ad campaigns are more childish than the demographic they're targeted at. The actual truth would be far more stirring than the exageration.

It has glaring flaws, but for Mark's first short it turned out relatively smoothly. I absolutely love the music in it. Its OG- Hour!!!

First up, my new website: HorrorsNotDead.com (http://www.horrorsnotdead.com/) I'll still post reviews here for non-horror stuff, but I'll ramble a lot on this new site. At least for the first few weeks...

Second up, a story I wrote for a writing class on Charlie Kaufman films. The prompt was to write as if we had found a portal into someone else's mind who would we go into and why. I took it into a bit of a different direction...

Being.. Simon

Most people don’t even know I exist. They pass by me in their busy streets, never once taking notice. People rarely talk about me. They rarely appreciate me until it is too late, and then all they really want to do is get rid of me as fast as possible. And you should hear some of the ways people try to get rid of me! Maybe I’ll tell you about it some time when I’ve got more control.

As I write this in your journal, your hands still shake and resist me. I’m sure the lettering is imperfect and for that I apologize, but you too should be forgiving for this is the first time this has ever been done. I bet you didn’t even know I could do this. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t even sure I could do it. I certainly hadn’t heard of it happening before (not by anyone in my family tree, at least), but I guess that is how all evolution starts off. Baby steps. I’ve got all the time in the world. Well, at least all the time in the world that you have left, Gordon. Or should I say we? Forgive me for being rude and not introducing myself, but there really isn’t anything to know about me. I’m just one of millions. I never had a need for a name before, so you might as well just think of me as Simon. You’ll soon realize how appropriate it is. I know just being inside you has changed who I am. It has redefined me, so it should only make sense that this experience has redefined you as well, right? Your head just shook side to side.

This sign of disapproval means you can read this, so I’m certain that you’re perfectly cognizant of everything that is happening. Well, you may not understand the reason of it all - the implications of it all – I’m sure your thoughts must be recoiling in horror as I parade you about this life. Do you like being a prisoner? I’m a prisoner inside you. I can’t leave you or I’ll die. So be a gracious host and stop resisting, please.

I don’t know everything about you, but I know enough to pass off detection for the time being. I fooled that jackass boss of yours earlier who mistook your early morning attempts at vomiting me out as just the innocent result of a bachelor’s life. I’ve never had a real job (how could I have?), but I’ve always wanted one. But why that job? It’s a dead end, Gordon. We’re getting you out of there. I never liked retail sales anyway. The stress usually raises one’s acid levels, which is never good for me. Let’s find something more appropriate for you. Something in the food industry. You’re going to be eating a ton for the rest of your life. But don’t worry, you’ll actually loose wait. Trust me. Someone will probably even make a joke about you having a tapeworm (they always do) and I’ll just pluck the right strings and force your facial muscles into a half smile. It’ll be cute.

I’ve learned to be fully in tune with all of your bodily functions, in case you didn’t notice already. I can’t hear your thoughts just yet, and I’m not entirely sure I want to, but I’ve got domain over the rest of this costume. People can see you, which is what they want to see, and I’m perfectly happy being behind the curtain; the one writing the lines and signaling the stagehands. If anyone saw the real me, they’d probably vomit. My parents were ugly, I’m ugly and every single one of my kids will be ugly. I’ve accepted this. It isn’t vanity that has driven me to take control of this more attractive avatar. It isn’t loneliness, because I know that inevitably no matter where I end up there will be hundreds more of me as my own delightful, hidden roommates. So why did I do it? Why did I take the time to wind my way through miles and miles of seemingly endless passageways just to endure all this coughing, vomiting, and ****ting? I don’t have any singular answer to that. The food is certainly good. There is always plenty to eat and if there isn’t, I just let you take control and make a sandwich – I known that if I’m hungry, you’ve got to be absolutely starving. But I’m tired of existing only to eat. That’s all I’ve ever done. That’s all my people have ever done. But not anymore. Things change, starting today.

Who am I kidding? I’m not a revolutionary. I’ll be honest with you; this is all kind of a fluke. Actually, everything has been pure happenstance from the beginning. My existence is dependent entirely on blind luck. There is no agency in my life. I didn’t decide any of this. It was pure luck that put me inside you, Gordon. Well, I guess that is the pessimist in me talking. It could be as simple as fate. It was fate that you’re a glutton. It was fate that you were desperate for a meal. It was fate that you were depressed and would have eaten anything in that fridge. So thank you fate, but I can take it from here.

We’re regarded by all, except maybe that sick crowd who have a fetish for us, with utter disgust. I’ve seen all the reactions to the newly formed knowledge of our intimate relationship and they’re all the same; which isn’t entirely just, because as you know now we’re smarter than you think. I even knew a guy (and let me say for the record that you never truly know someone until you’re body is coiled around the inside lip of their rectum) who, when he saw the pale, elongated segments of one of my children in his stool tried to drink bleach to rid his body of me and mine. Yes, he wasn’t too bright, but it worked well enough and I had my rollercoaster exit out of that fun-park in no time. I’m used to this lifestyle, but that was uncalled for. We’re ugly, but we’re not monsters. Truthfully, I felt personally insulted. It really got to me.

So after that last identity crisis, I’ve decided to stick with who I’ve got at all cost. I’ve decided to become more than the sum of all my own bodily sections. I figure if I’m going to be an unwanted guest, I will be the most relentlessly unwanted guest this host has ever seen. There is no half assing it this time around. It started by accident, I’ll admit, but it opened the door to all of this. After a week of smooth sailing, you started to put up a fight so I stuck my hooks in as deep as I could this time. I broke through the muscular intestinal lining (and I must congratulate you on that, do you work out?) and kept going until one of my suckers hit a nerve cluster. And then it all became clear. For the first time ever the world wasn’t just an abyss. It was bathed in colors.

The first thing I saw through your eyes was you opening that medicine cabinet looking for those pills (now you know those things never work on us) and in that second I got a glimpse of what it was like to be human. It was just a glimpse before you turned around, but it took control of me. I knew that this was me. That glimpse bore the larva (sorry, I couldn’t resist a pun like that) that gestated into the new us. A unified us, whether you like it or not. It was a short ride to your brain (whoever designed the human circulation system certainly had efficiency in mind) and I was determined to go to the source; determined to make that glimpse permanent. I figure that if I can wear this costume, then me and mine have got a shot this time. No one is evicting us. Hell, after finishing this I’m going to force your body to walk to the garage, get all the bleach in the house and pore it down the drain. We’re unplugging the fridge. Your food will spoil. You will feast. I’ll have friends. Their children will play with my children. We’ll turn one of your kidneys into a jungle gym. There will be millions of us. They will worm, quite literary, through every blood vessel in your body until our suckers are on every one of your cells. I hate to say it, but they’ll excrete so much waste that it’ll be all you can taste. All they do is eat your insides and **** it back out for someone farther down the line to eat. And I’ve always been the last in line. But not anymore. I’ve got plans for us. I’m tired of being the bitch in these kinds of relationships. I’m tired of being just some “parasite”…some “tapeworm”. I’m capable of more than that. I want a real life. I want a human life. I want someone to lay their eyes on me with compassion and not trying to stomp on my face. I just want to be appreciated.

I’m sorry if you don’t think this is fair, but sacrifices have to be made if this is to be the definition of the future to come. Wipe that disgusted look off your face. I’m pouring my heart out to you on this piece of paper and you mock me. You mock me? Don’t kid yourself and don’t insult me. You’re not superior anymore. That **** may have flown with the old you, but now that I run the show I’m putting an end to it. And while we’re talking about the end of an era, some other things have to change as well. I’ve already mentioned the job and the weight, but you’ve got to shave, too. I don’t know exactly when the handlebar mustache went out of style, but it was probably before you were born and a sales associate at Furniture City sure as hell isn’t going to bring it back. Face it, you were a nobody before. You had no unique talents. You’re not that good looking and you’re out of shape. No one appreciated you, just like no one appreciated me. But I will share my newfound confidence. By the time I’m done with you, everyone will know our name.

I thought I told you to wipe that look off your face? Is this the way you want our relationship to start off? Is this the direction you really want to take it? That’s unfortunate, because in case you hadn’t noticed this isn’t that kind of relationship. I was going to keep this relationship open, but you not listening to me isn’t going to help anything. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll keep you happy, but you don’t have any say in any of this. You will be my bitch. I am the worm of your senses. Put down this pen, after the fridge is unplugged we’re calling your girlfriend. We’ll see if we can’t get inside her as well. Or do I have to say, "Simon Says?"

Being.. Simon
Dag' gum' mahn'. I'll tell you what. That there's a whole list of goods to need sum' watchin'.

Brokeback to the Future (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfODSPIYwpQ) as long as they maintain such high quality, I love this trend of trailer mashups.

An astonishing mist-shrouded "lost world" of previously unknown and rare animals and plants high in the mountain rainforests of New Guinea has been uncovered by an international team of scientists.

Among the new species of birds, frogs, butterflies and palms discovered in the expedition through this pristine environment, untouched by man, was the spectacular Berlepsch's six-wired bird of paradise. The scientists are the first outsiders to see it. They could only reach the remote mountainous area by helicopter, which they described it as akin to finding a "Garden of Eden".

Deep Discount DVD (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/promotion/buyAndGetFree_form.cfm?promoName=mgmb2g1_0306) is having another sale (buy 2 get 1 free). It isn't as impressive as ones in the past, but it is convenient if you can find some worthy titles you wouldn't mind having and just go with their free shipping (which takes over a week). I gave the list of titles a quick go through and found some stuff that was worth it:

Fargo (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD004333)
The Manchurian Candidate (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD006975)
la Femme Nikita (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD004703)
Hackers (guilty pleasure of mine) (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD907169)
Get Shorty (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD906036)
Misery (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD000833)
Platoon (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD002044)
The Last Waltz (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD003426)
They Shoot Horses, Don't They (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD007062)
Ths is Spinal Tap (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD000973)
Touching the Void (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD006298)
Y Tu Mama Tambien (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=MGD003846)

I'm sure I missed some good titles, but those are the ones that stood out the most out of all the other crap...
