Always an Honour, always a Pleasure, and a d@mn right De-light to be your Host for what has become a staple of us MoFos here to view and review our Nominations in this format.
Which, by definition is an Open Hall of Fame for films spanning all genres, decades, and Countries.
Should you have any questions, queries, or comments do not hesitate and our Staff will do their very best to assist you.

Thank you, bless you, gesundheit, How's ya mama? Thanks for the tea.
Management

Soecial Thanks to Citizen Rules for this breakdown of General Rules.

Movie Nominations: Any movie you feel is worthy of an HoF, that is under 240 minutes, can be nominated...Previous HoF winners are excluded.

PM me your nominations and include: film title & year of release. Keep your nomination a secret until the unveiling of the films.

Open Door Policy: For one week after the reveal of the movie nominations, I will be taking new members. This is also the time period in which to withdraw from the HoF if you've changed your mind.

Length of HoF: There will be approximately one week of viewing time per movie. So if there are 10 movie nominations the HoF will be about 10 weeks long. The deadline to finish will be posted after the HoF starts.

During the HoF: Everyone watches the nominated movies and will discuss them in this thread. You need to write at least a few sentences about your thoughts on each movie after you watch it. Part of the process is a shared discussion of the movies, as a group.

Note: If you've seen a movie recently or have seen it many times you can skip watching it, otherwise you have to watch all nominated movies. But you will, of course, will need to post a review all the same.

Requesting help to locate movies: If you have trouble locating a movie make a post and ask for help. When responding with a movie link send it by private message, don't post links or embed films in this thread.

Dropouts: Members who don't finish will be disqualified and their movie nomination removed from the HoF. Please make sure you have the time to complete this, it helps to start watching the films right away so you don't have a bunch of movies to watch at the end. If for any reason you do need to drop out make sure and let me know that you can't finish.

Participation: An HoF is about participation, you can go at your own pace with one caveat: If a member is inactive with no movies reviewed for long periods of time, I will contact them to see what's up. Depending on the situation I might place their movie in 'undetermined status' meaning the movie is not out of the HoF but is not required to watch at that time. Basically, we don't want a situation where someone joins but never participates as that's not fair to the other members and we can't tell if that person has dropped out or not. As long as someone finishes by the deadline then all will be good.

Past Main HOF Archives (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?anchor=1&p=1836290#post1836290)........ Past Specialty HOF Archives (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?anchor=1&p=1836291#post1836291)

The initial Deadline to Join will be Friday, January 14, 2022, where I will Reveal all nominations with an additional week of OPEN DOOR POLICY for anyone wishing to Join In having grown curious with the list of nominations presented the following Friday of January 21, 2022.

Hopefully people can see where I'm coming from. If not you can watch a guy who's been in 24/26 generals not join anymore.

That's not what I meant and maybe I should reclarify. I'll summarize by saying is Themroc and Daisies Hall of Fame candidate worthy?I sincerely believe Ueno thinks they are HoF-worthy and that she's not just trolling, or as you put it, nom-bombing. I'm new at these and shouldn't have any say on how they're run, but I'd prefer to see all kinds of movies in these from weird art-house fare to Hollywood classics. I just floated the private idea as an option for you to avoid seeing picks you know you probably won't like.

Couldn't tell that by her reviews. Hell one was an atrocious blind watch.

Daisies is absolutely worthy of being a Hall of Fame candidate. It is a very well regarded film and is ranked 292nd on They Shoot Picture's 1000 greatest films of all time list. It's also included on the "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" list. It's rated a 4.0 on Letterboxd, which is pretty high. I will agree that Themroc was terrible and not a worthy nomination

Yes and yes. Why should they be excluded simply because you didn’t enjoy them?

They aren’t exactly trashy films. Daisies is even recognized as amongst Czechoslovakia’s top films.

Your stance here screams of “select films I want or I won’t join.” That, to me, goes against the spirit of these.

Takoma11
01-09-22, 01:22 PM
The main thing I've enjoyed about these tournaments is seeing movies I haven't seen before. Like, I know people want to win, but I've seen Vertigo and The Deer Hunter and No Country for Old Men and I know why they're great and why people think they're great.

I think that probably about half of my legitimately favorite movies would maybe be seen as trolling. But I, for example, genuinely think that Brain Damage is a great film and I watch it a lot and I think about it a lot and it evokes very strong emotions in me. The main thing holding me back from nominating it is that it would make me sad to watch 10 of my forum-peers totally trash it, LOL.

Anyway, I will be in as long as none of the nominated films cross my personal no-go boundaries.

I'll copy something I wrote in the 26th HoF as this is the same controversy which popped up last time:

We all know that Themroc was really love-it-or-hate-it among us (well, maybe not "love-it" lmao), but Daisies, by comparison, is generally considered to be a much better film. A number of critical essays have been written about it, Criterion included it in one of their Eclipse series on the Czech New Wave (https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/870-eclipse-series-32-pearls-of-the-czech-new-wave), and Sight & Sound listed it as one of the best films of all time in 2012. To my understanding, while ueno_station wanted to pick another weird film for this Hall of Fame, she went with something that has more of a classic status.

As an aside, here's the Criterion essay for this film (https://www.criterion.com/current/posts/2269-eclipse-series-32-pearls-of-the-czech-new-wave), if you're curious (scroll down a bit on the page to get to the essay for Daisies).

So I'm reading the plot summary for Themroc and, I'm sorry, but "Made on a low budget with no intelligible dialog," is EXACTLY the kind of movie I want in at least one of the nominations. Not all of them, mind you, but c'mon. Live a little!

In this moment, would I rather rewatch Citizen Kane for the nth time, or watch a 70s film where a worker becomes a caveman? You already know the answer to that question.

Wyldesyde19

I pretty much enjoy watching those films that I haven’t seen before, especially those from other countries. I purposely seek out these types of films, and I’m constantly searching for older films from various countries for this purpose.

That’s why Daisies and In a Glass Cage, another nomination maligned for its selection (and one I enjoyed),were worthwhile to me

That's not what I meant and maybe I should reclarify. I'll summarize by saying is Themroc and Daisies Hall of Fame candidate worthy? As others have said, yes those movies are worthy of an HoF. Both are highly rated at IMDB. I loved Daisies, so did my wife. The film I was going to nominate for this HoF is generally panned & low rated at IMDB...BUT the important part is, I believe it to be a great film. Maybe I'll nom in the 28th.

Couldn't tell that by her reviews. Hell one was an atrocious blind watch...I agree with you on this. I think that's where the problem stems from. It's not Ueno herself who seems cool but it's that she blows off the majority of the films with a flippant, one liner insult. Which then to some sounds disingenuous.

I've hated on a LOT of noms myself, usually I hate about 1/3 of them but I do write a detailed enough review so people can see where I'm coming from in my opinion. I would suggest Ueno explain a bit more in her reviews what the problems with the movies are. That might help.

While I wouldn’t say her reviews are insightful, and definitely dismissive and lacking on good faith effort in giving the films a fair attempt, she does typically write a few paragraphs in regards to these films from what I’ve remembered.

It describes the feeling of those reviews as opposed to the actually word count. Taken as a whole I'm perceiving that some members are under the impression she's not serious about this HoF endeavor and some might question if she has finished the films or not...I'm not saying she's not serious. I'm not saying she didn't watch the films...I'm saying that type of review she does can send up red flags to some individuals. That's what I think is going on with the various complaints and Raul wasn't the only person to complain in the last HoF (and no I didn't complain in the 26th. I'm trying to help)

I do understand where Raul is coming from, so let's not give him grief as he's got a point: When someone says rather flippantly that they can't find the movie they want, so they are going with a BS nom...that sounds problematic to me.

*Note: I did message Ueno earlier and offered to help find her first movie choice.

I hope it sets up to me joining. I'm just saying I'm not putting myself through a Themroc/In a Glass Cage scenario.

Probably came across as a temper tantrum. I obviously don't expect to like every film I just legitimately want people to nominate films they like and not nominate just to get people to watch a strange/absurb film for the hell of it.

to clarify, the superhero bs im nominating is something i've wanted to nominate for awhile because i genuinely loved it last time i saw it. as for my reviews being bad im just a very shallow film watcher.

Sure, but judging from her reviews, ueno did enjoy both Themroc and Daisies, so I don't think the latter applies for her.

ueno_station54

also the superhero bs was rejected. it was a miniseries and those being allowed or not seems to vary from host to host. so the replacement replacement nom is something ive legitimately never heard anyone say a bad word about so hope this one works out.

Go watch it then. Have fun.

ueno_station54

also i admit Themroc was an off the grid pull. it was the first general HoF i was in and coming off of one genre HoF prior which are a bit more lax seemingly I thought that would be fine. im not gonna blind pick again, at least not entirely (will probably do a lot of things i saw a long time ago and want to revisit). you can go look at the list of my favourite films i posted here awhile ago Daisies is in the top 10 and it has been for a long time that was a very genuine nomination i assure you.

While I enjoyed your nomination, I understand why it got some backlash given that it was an extreme film which showed actual scenes of underage boys being disrobed and sexually touched on camera by an older man. It's a bit different than Themroc and Daisies, given that the backlash those films received were mostly due to them being weird more than containing potentially objectionable content.

Yet for some reason Christine F. featuring a 13- or 14-year-old girl giving a hand job to an adult man, having sex with her junkie boyfriend, and doing drugs didn't raise any eyebrows. Also Pixote featuring a rape of a young boy, full-frontal underaged nudity, and said boy kissing an adult woman raised only small concerns from one user (I'd remember).

Sorry about this slightly off-topic rant. This has no effect on me joining or not and fortunately, I don't know any other pedophile nazi murderer films I'd like.

Most of the reviews seemed to be around 3/5 and prior to nominating, I knew that two other participants liked the film (there are older discussions about it on the forums). Besides, that's a completely different "issue" now - apparently, nominator liking the film isn't enough now?

All righty, then, allow me to address some truly important issues, if I may.

The first and most important, I feel, that yes, Speling is VERY correct. I AM a d@mn good host. I rock, I roll, and even shimmy and groove, so there's that.

Secondly, and equally important:
WELCOME BACK MISS VICKY!!!!
https://thumbs.gfycat.com/AgonizingDeadlyBarnswallow-max-1mb.gif

Next; We're at a very excellent rate on day one of nominations with eight folks in, two on the sidelines accompanying a new spectator -- WELCOME @Dumbear!! Sit back, enjoy, and I'm very happy to have you here!

Regarding rauldc14 and his concerns he has the right, as we all do, to voice them, and I have love and respect for the man and I'd rather things were allowed their time to "air out" than to fester.
We love this format and the myriad of opportunities it presents for us movie lovers/watchers so it's best to speak out and to respect one another and our myriad of opinions/views on all sides.

ueno_station54 is new and like all of us, will adjust while, hopefully, staying true to herself as a fellow movie watcher. Not everyone gels with everyone and for good and for bad, variety is a good thing. We can applaud. We can groan and b#tch. Both of which are ALSO a good thing.
I did reject her initial series suggestion, simply because this is a Movie HoF and I do firmly believe that a Specialty HoF of Mini-Series would be excellent and her "superhero bs lol" ;) would fit beautifully there. When Siddon's mini-series was accepted it was a very singular exception that, for me, paid off. But, again, as Host, I wanted to stay within the set format of Films and would happily participate in a Specialty HoF of mini-series. Speling's Twilight Zone is an excellent example of how well such an HoF would do.

That should do for now, till next we meet. . .

Since I haven't seen those films, nor was I a participant in the respective Halls for those films, I'd have to watch them to form an opinion on the content in them. Regardless, my post was more of a general statement that extreme films shouldn't be nominated in main Halls. They'd be more appropriate for an extreme film HoF if anyone were to put one together.

I respectfully disagree. I think extreme films should be eligible for general halls, if the person nominating it genuinely believes it is worthy. There are some great films that have content or themes that might be considered extreme or offensive to some people, but are still worthy of being nominated for a general hall, in my opinion.

Takoma11
01-09-22, 05:31 PM
I've seen a lot of films but I have not seen 2 out of 3 of those (The Deer Hunter and No Country for Old Men).

This time I went with a well known film myself. Sometimes I don't. Just depends on my mood.

It's not so much about it being known or unknown. You haven't seen The Deer Hunter but I bet everyone on this forum knows of it, and that most people who haven't seen it yet vaguely have it on their to-see list.

The value I've gotten out of these HoF experiences is seeing films that weren't on my radar or that I would not have sought out on my own.

Go watch it then. Have fun.

I . . . might have fun with it? Which is the point of this kind of thing?

Did you honestly see that movie getting good feedback? It was an obvious last place the minute the synopsis was read.

I liked it a lot and rated it something like 4. It was around the middle of my ballot if I recall correctly, maybe even toward the top?

It comes down to whether you mean what you say about people nominating things they love and think that some others may really like. Like I said in the thread at the time, I was as disturbed by the child abuse in Antwone Fisher as what happened in In a Glass Cage. Moreso, honestly, because it was a thing happening to a real person and not part of a larger allegory.

This is a potluck. Do you want people to bring food they genuinely find delicious, knowing it might make some people gag? Or do you want everyone to bring potato chips?

I remember several of us discussing a similar thing in the past. While I agreed with the general consensus we settled on that it's impossible to account for everything which may possibly trigger or offend someone, I do think we should make an effort to avoid nominating some films with obvious or common triggers, like unstimulated violence toward animals or underage nudity.

Those two types of content are wildly different though. Unsimulated violence towards animals is genuinely offensive, wrong, and harmful. Underage nudity, in my opinion, is not harmful or immoral and should not be offensive, although some people are, for whatever reason, offended by it. Not trying to offend anyone here, but that is my honest opinion on it.

I mentioned underage nudity because that caused controversy in some past Halls. I don't want to directly name anyone, but I saw a couple posters state in the past that they might not join anymore Halls due to the underage nudity in some films which were nominated for them. I haven't seen this type of controversy occur for different types of potentially disturbing or offensive content, so that's why I listed unsimulated violence and underage nudity as common triggers up above. They have caused issues in the past.

It is all a bit of a tightrope walk but it is one we all walk together and the success of that does come down to having these conversations and expressing our views.

At the end of it all, General, in my experience has been both amazing and grueling and has allowed me to venture into places I wouldn't on my own. Some I'd rather have not, ever, but it doesn't lower their cinematic value and it does allow me the opportunity to get thrown in the deep end of film experiences and thereby grow, cinema-wise. Not to mention the payoff for the discovery of films I have come to love and respect or just simply needed to see and finally have, easily surpassed the ones I could have done without.

This kind of stuff never bothers me because it’s not actually happening, although I do note it as a disturbing scene. Wether it’s a allegory or not, though, I’m not going to rationalize one as more disturbing than the other.

EDIT: actually, scratch that. I seem to remember being more disturbed by the depiction in Glass Cage.

I think people need to realize that participating in a Hall of Fame means you risk having to watch movies that make you uncomfortable and this is especially true when you join a general HOF. People trying to restrict what is and is not allowed is what led to my first hiatus from the HOF.

That said, any nomination that contains actual animal cruelty or that contains exploitative child nudity will get an automatic last place on my ballot.

I think that your average movie watcher (by average I just mean most, not, like "average = pedestrian" or something) would be more disturbed by In a Glass Cage, as it is a more graphic portrayal.

My point was partly that for some people (me included) something being more graphic doesn't automatically equate to it being more disturbing.

But as a very sensitive soul myself, I have a lot of sympathy for people who don't want to watch things that cross their personal sense of "too much." I really, REALLY get it.

I nominated a pretty well-known, respected a film. But I love when something off the wall gets nominated. I wish more foreign films and more horror films got nominated. I think, say, Texas Chain Saw Massacre is better than most of the films that have won general hofs, but rarely does horror get nominated. I hate the idea of relegating it to only being nominated in its own category, because last I checked, it's also a film, so would fit in a film hall of fame.

I wish more foreign films and more horror films got nominated.
Speaking of this, there's a foreign "horror" film I'd really like to nominate for a Hall of Fame, but it's not actually appropriate for a genre HoF because it has a dramatic shift in perspective that negates the previous horror elements. It's really hard to describe and convince people who don't like horror to give it a chance without giving the twist away.

I'm thinking about it, but I need to see how this week goes at Uni. The semester only just started, and I'm taking a famously difficult class that might derail my attempt at earning a second degree. I need to see how much work this is going to be before I determine whether or not I'll have time to participate in a HoF.

Being the Man Behind the Curtain I'll remain behind the curtain, but I will say that the diversity is REALLY taking off in regards to genre, with the second half of folks joining in.

And speaking of, we have two more official Participants; cricket and TheUsualSuspect with Nominations sent in, and looks like we'll be having Thief as well -- Yay to the Y to Ay!
Sadly, Cosmic and MM won't be able to, but hopefully, they can visit which is pretty wonderful in its self.

i understand that people make film nominations (i think that it basically means recommendations?) and i see some rules for it but could someone maybe explain me a bit more how this works?

Yup HoF means Hall of Fame, movie Hall of Fame. This is a movie watching club, if you join you get to choose one movie to nominate that all the other HoF members will watch. You promise to watch all the movies they've choose. Right now there are 12 members so 12 movies to watch. There's plenty of time to watch the movies..Then you write up your thoughts on the movies as you watch them... and at the end of the HoF you send in a ranked voting list to the host edarsenal and he tallies the points and declares which movie wins. That movie is then inducted into The Hall of Fame Archives. (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=52323)

Yes, it means Hall of Fame.

Everyone who signs up must choose one movie to nominate. (This is a general hall of fame, so you can pick any movie from any genre as long as it has not already won a Hall of Fame and is within the runtime limit (4 hours, I think?). Previous winners can be found here: https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=52323 ) If you join before the reveal, private message your nomination to edarsenal. You can also wait a few days and see what has already been nominated before deciding. Just keep in mind that your nomination needs to be something that everyone will be able to get a hold to watch.

Once the nominations have been finalized, everyone must watch and review every nominated movie. Generally, the host gives everyone one week per movie, but you can watch at your own pace as long as you meet the deadline. At the end, you will rank every nominated movie and send your ranking to edarsenal. If you fail to finish, your nominated movie will be disqualified.

The winner will be decided based on the rankings everyone submits and edarsenal will post those rankings once the deadline has passed and he's had time to calculate the results.

No trouble at all! Very wonderful to meet you and I see Miss Vicky and CR already answered your questions, and should you have any others, please don't hesitate.
A little additional info: this week is the initial week for people to join and send their nominations (recommendations) to me and come this Friday I will reveal them all in the thread and on the first-page main post. There is also a secondary week (Ending January 21) for what we like to call: OPEN DOOR POLICY. Which is something for those preferring to see what has been nominated before deciding to join. So you do have the option of happily jumping in blindly or waiting till after the REVEAL to make a decision.
Of course, Friday the 21st will be the usual deadline for entries.
And regarding a Timeline for this Hall of Fame, we generally set it as 1 week per film, so at 12 films the deadline would be 12 weeks from the REVEAL Date of January 14th.

Again, THANKS for popping in and considering!

Well, I'm in - this promises to be a memorable Hall of Fame with some uncomfortable moments. I love uncomfortable moments. This time around my nomination is a film that's been widely seen - but one I hope I can encourage everyone to watch again and appreciate. I have a few more obscure and great picks for future Hall of Fames, but I've decided to once in a while pick something that I think, while well known, truly deserves to be up there. I went through all the previous HoFs to make sure it's been a while since it's been nominated - to my surprise I found that it's never been nominated.

I really hope CosmicRunaway joins and gives us the nomination she hinted at. I really hope that one or more of the nominations shocks and appalls me. I'm sure there will be a few I've never heard of that I'll enjoy. I liked all of the picks for the 26th HoF - even Daisies. It was a great experience. My nom for that one was one I liked, and was sure nobody would have already seen. This time it's something I consider to be the best film ever made.

Safety Last! (1923)
This is a rewatch for me. I had mixed feelings about it the first time, so we'll see how this goes.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Another rewatch. I grew up with the Indy movies and like all of the original trilogy, but for whatever reason Raiders has always been my least favorite of the three. Temple of Doom will always have my heart.

Magical Girl aka Magična devojka (2014)
I don't think I've ever even heard of this.

Baby Face (1933)
I don't generally do well with movies from this era and historically I've not enjoyed the majority of the edarsenal nominations I've watched, so I don't have high hopes. Perhaps this will be one of the few exceptions.

Apocalypse Now (1979)
I haven't seen this, but I generally dislike war movies and a certain water buffalo scene all but guarantees this a last place vote from me.

True Romance (1993)
Obviously I love this movie. I decided that I wanted to guarantee that I would have some fun in this HOF and for whatever reason that led me to consider nothing but 90's movies. It's been awhile since I've seen it so I'm looking forward to rewarding myself with a rewatch.

Jaws (1975)
I've seen this before and thought it was good but didn't love it. Maybe I'll like it more this time.

My Dog Skip (2000)
Haven't seen this before. A little googling mentions animal cruelty but a cursory reading of reviews doesn't say whether that cruelty is real or fake. Not looking forward to this.

Midnight Cowboy (1969)
I watched this once before - perhaps for the 60s countdown? - and thought it was good. I might've even voted for it. Definitely didn't love it though so we'll see how much I enjoy it this time.

Witness for the Prosecution (1957)
Another film I've previously seen while preparing for a decades countdown. I recall liking it well enough. I think I voted for it as well. We'll see how the rewatch goes.

Dolores Claiborne (1995)
I don't think I've ever seen this. No idea what I'll think.

Cure (1997)
Another I don't think I've heard of.

The Secret of Roan Inish (1994)
Definitely haven't heard of this.

L'amour braque aka Mad Love (1985)
Also unfamiliar with this one.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Magical Girl aka Magična devojka (2014)
I don't think I have heard of this one either.

Baby Face (1933)

Apocalypse Now (1979)

True Romance (1993)

Jaws (1975)

Midnight Cowboy (1969)
Excellentfilm, an all time favourite. Own the Criterion blu ray.

Witness for the Prosecution (1957)

Dolores Claiborne (1995)
Excellent film. Own the dvd.

Cure (1997)
Not familiar with this one.

The Secret of Roan Inish (1994)

L'amour braque aka Mad Love (1985)
Unfamiliar with this one. Looks like it might be interesting.

I may join this, as I’ve seen 5 of the films already and can write a review for 4 of them easily, since I’ve seen them multiple times. I also own Safety Last, which came included in the Harold Lloyd Boxset I purchased.

I’ll get back to this after I think it over.

ueno_station54

Safety Last: i've seen one Harold Lloyd film and i liked it a good bit but i know this is supposed to be his banger. wouldn't be shocked if this tops my ballot

Raiders of the Lost Arc: don't think i've seen this since i was probably like 8-9. obviously know all the famous moments. probably fun???

Magical Girl: probably the most "could go either way" film on the list. no idea what to expect.

Baby Face: this looks girlboss af hell ye <3

Apocalypse Now: i think i last saw this when i was in the 8th grade. remember nothing. probably cool??

True Romance: same as above but probably bad.

Jaws: the only time i saw this was in class once. probably wasn't paying attention. i'm sure i know all the famous bits.

My Dog Skip: the heat i'm gonna get when i end up putting this like middle of the pack above some of the heavy hitters lmao.

Midnight Cowboy: doesn't necessarily look like my kind of thing but a friend reviewed it on letterboxd and said one thing that has me interested.

Witness for the Prosecution: this does not look like my jam.

Dolores Claiborne: this does not look like my jam.

Cure: it's been a minute since i've seen this. really liked it at the time but its not typically the kind of thing i go for so i am a bit worried about how it holds up.

The Secret of Roan Inish: this looks like it goes hard ngl. hype

L'amour braque: so this was my original pick that couldn't be found anywhere until Citizen managed to track it down for me like a real sweetie <3 I saw this like two weeks ago on Mubi and it was the first movie i'd seen in a minute where i thought "wow i want to watch that again like right now" and so it snuck to the top of my list of things to nominate.

Safety Last!: One of my favorite silent films. More than happy to revisit it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark: Seen it a bunch of times, and it's pretty great.

Magical Girl: Haven't heard of this one.
Baby Face: Haven't heard of this one.

Apocalypse Now: I don't think I've ever seen the theatrical cut of this one. I'm going to watch that version.

True Romance: Heard of it, but I haven't seen it.

Jaws: Probably my favorite Spielberg film.

My Dog Skip: Heard of it, but I haven't seen it. I don't even know anything about it.

Midnight Cowboy: My nomination. This was one of my favorite first-time watches of last year, so I'm excited to revisit it for this thread. I'm curious how you'll all respond to it.

Witness for the Prosecution: An excellent courtroom drama. Once I get to it, I might even show it to my roommate to see how he responds to it.

Dolores Claiborne: Heard of it, but I haven't seen it.

Cure: I almost watched it last year, but never got around to it.

The Secret of Roan Inish: My mom has watched this one a bunch of times. I've only seen bits and pieces of it, so I'm happy to finally watch it from beginning to end.

L'amour Braque: I hadn't heard of this one until ueno introduced me to it a few days ago. I've been meaning to check out more Zulawski for a while, so I'm happy to check it out.

I'm still trying to decide whether to join or not. I guess I'll do this pre-emptively, anyway...

Safety Last!: I may have seen this as a child, but I'm not sure. I definitely don't remember anything, though. Should be at least watchable.

Raiders of the Lost Ark: I've seen this quite a few times. I do prefer The Temple of Doom, but this is pretty good too.

Magical Girl aka Magična devojka: Never even heard of this. Kinda hard to know what to expect, but being a cricket nomination I suppose it's not all fluffy.

Baby Face: This was on my watchlist for the 30s top-100 but, as usual, I didn't watch anything for that. Somewhat interesting.

Apocalypse Now: I've meant to rewatch this for a while now. I think I've seen it twice (didn't really like it as a kid, though it was OK as a young man). If I join, I'll go with the redux as I haven't seen that.

True Romance: Saw this in theater, and don't remember too much. I didn't hate it back then, but I don't think I loved it either.

Jaws: Another that I've meant to rewatch anyway. I remember liking it, but not as much as mark does.

My Dog Skip: This one doesn't look like my kind of film.

Midnight Cowboy: Saw this a while back and thought it was mediocre. Not too excited to watch it again.

Witness for the Prosecution: Not a fan of courtroom dramas so I haven't seen this.

Dolores Claiborne: I'm almost certain I've seen this. If I'm correct, I didn't particularly like it.

Cure: This one is great. Watched it last year and I think it's the second-best by this Kurosawa after Pulse.

The Secret of Roan Inish: Never heard of this one, but it kinda looks like my kind of film. I just wish it was R-rated.

L'amour braque aka Mad Love: Never heard of this.

Lots of rewatches on this one if I join. Personally, I'm not too thrilled about these mega-classic nominations that everyone has already seen, but that's just me. We'll see what I'll do but no promises either way.

Nice bunch, and it's nicer that I've seen a good chunk of them

Safety Last! (1923) - Saw this in 2019. It was my first Lloyd film and I enjoyed it a lot. Wouldn't mind revisiting it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - Oh my Gawd, how many times have I seen this? Love it  I don't think I need to rewatch it, but if I can sneak it in, I will. It's been a couple of years.

Magical Girl (2014) - This is one I hadn't even heard of, but looks like something I might enjoy.

Baby Face (1933) - Haven't seen it, but I usually dig pre-Code films, so it should be fun.

Apocalypse Now - Have seen it multiple times. Last time was in 2019. Love it. Like Raiders, if I have time, I can sneak in a rewatch, but this is one that's pretty fresh in my mind.

True Romance (1993) - I don't think I've seen this since the 90s. Remember loving it, but for some reason, never got back to it. Should be fun to revisit it.

Jaws (1975) - Another one I love and that I've seen a good bunch of times.

My Dog Skip (2000) - I think I skipped (pun intended) past this back in the day. Never got around to it. We'll see.

Midnight Cowboy (1969) - This is one I've had on my radar for a very long time. Should be fun to finally get around to it.

Witness for the Prosecution (1957) - See above.

Dolores Claiborne (1995) - Like I said when I sent my nomination, I've seen it a couple of times but the last one was probably late 90s, early 2000s. I remember it leaving a strong impression back then, so I've always meant to rewatch it.

Cure (1997) - Haven't seen it but definitely looks like my jam.

The Secret of Roan Inish (1994) - Never heard of it. I've only seen one Sayles film (Eight Men Out), so it should be interesting.

L'amour braque (1985) - Another one I hadn't heard of, but I also have no experience with Zulawski, so bring it on!

I'll do the usual first thoughts, I'm on a work break...so quickly.

Safety Last! (1923) Love silent films, but never seen this one. Excited to watch it! I use to watch Harold Lloyd when I was a kid as they rerunned his old silent shorts on TV...gee that sounds funny:p

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Am I the only one who hasn't seen this like a bunch of times? I seen it twice, the last time was 20 years ago. So I'm do for a rewatch.

Baby Face (1933) I still can't believe this didn't make the 1930s Countdown I hosted. I even used an image from the movie in the artwork for the countdown. I love pre-code films and this is one of the best...Barbara Stanwack is one of my all time favs, so excited to rewatch this.

Apocalypse Now I was hoping someone would nominate this as I mentioned watching it to the wife but she didn't want because of the water buffalo killing. I think both versions have that scene? I've seen this once back in the early 90s.

Jaws (1975) Fantastic movie and I had a hunch it was going to be picked, if not I would've snagged it in a future HoF. Been a few years since I seen it and looking forward to a rewatch...I like Jaws 3D too:cool:

Midnight Cowboy (1969) Seen this for the first time in the third Personal Recommendation. I was surprise at how much I liked it, I think I scored it 2nd just behind Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing. I should go look to be sure.

Witness for the Prosecution (1957) I've seen this a couple of times and it's a favorite, great actors, great story.

Dolores Claiborne (1995) I seen this long ago and can hardly remember it so I will rewatch.

I haven't seen these:

My Dog Skip (2000) I've often really liked Siddon's noms, and I know he puts a lot of thought into what he chooses...this one looks pretty neat.

True Romance (1993) I've wanted to see this for a long time and was hoping it would get nominated so I could. Every actor in this film is tops by me!

L'amour braque (1985) I seen a bit of this would I looked for a link for Ueno but I didn't watch the film yet.

I haven't read about these and never heard of them, but their movie posters look pretty cool🙂

Cure (1997)

The Secret of Roan Inish (1994)

Magical Girl (2014)
