View Full Version : Our favorite voices
LordSlaytan

There are threads dedicated to our favorite guitarist’s, our favorite drummer’s, and our favorite album’s. This one is for our favorite singer’s within any genre of music. List five of your favorite voices in music. This isn’t supposed to be a list of what we think everybody else will agree with, but a chance to show what you really like. I’ll start with five of my favorite voices.

I like his style, but honestly...I haven't been into Fate or Diamond for a long time, though I do still listen to The Graveyard. Awesome concept album. It's truly a good horror story.

It's usually the opposite with me. More like "List Your Top Twenty-Five movies." "Well, I'm too stupid to come up with that many so here's my Top Ten."

Not coming up with all is cool, going over board is annoying. Because then everyone starts to do it, and the whole point of the post is lost. Not that this thread has any special integrity or anything...I'm just getting annoyed a lot around here lately. I feel our forum has lost its integrity. And that pisses me the hell off.

I doubt it was a mistake Hondo, but more in the line of not caring. I like you so don't take it personally, I would rather it to have been some one other than you to piss me off, but it wasn't. I'm just getting sick of a lot of the posts around here lately, and can totally understand Silver's attitude towards new posters.

In no particular order:
Björk - Her speaking voice is just as good, like a cheeky Cockney Viking.
David Bowie - The Dame? Iconic and mannered.
Barney Sumner (New Order) - In my warped world he's the greatest Soul singer of his generation.
Sinéad O'Connor - As batty as Ms Guðmundsdóttir and just as technically adept in her own way.
David McComb (The Triffids) - Like a more mellow, pragmatic Nick Cave in both his singing and his writing. Which leads me to...
St Nicholas Cave - Bluesman, Revivalist preacher and baritone all in one.
Christy Moore - The best Irish-accented singing voice I know of.
Ronnie Drew (The Dubliners) - As above but the singing voice has been dulled by what seems like 3 packs of Woodbines. This ain't a criticism. ;)
Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses) - Fractured.
Kate Bush - The Yang to Bowie's unmistakeably English Ying.
Warren Zevon - Like an American Ronnie Drew, he sounded like I feel in the morning...
Bugger, I'm rambling now. I don't even have time for Mary Margaret O'Hara, Otis Redding, Peter Tosh, Mark Eitzel, Chuck D, Ian Curtis, Peter Tosh, John Lydon, Tracy Chapman, Prince or Peter Tosh...Arghhhh! :D
Max Cavalera has a great voice, also Corey Taylor and James Hetfield.
I've got one more pick...
http://coolalbumreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Bryan-Ferry-award.jpg

Here's some of the lyrics to "Fistful of Love":
I accept and I collect upon my body
The memories of your devotion
And I feel your fists
And I know it's out of love
And I feel the whip
And I know it's out of love
And I feel your burning eyes burning holes
Straight through my heart
It's out of love
This song breaks my heart.

5. Grace Slick- Truth be told I only like two of her songs, but I love the crescendo of this song and the power of her voice can't be denied.

4. Morrisey- His voice has that quality that adds something so special to his songs. Jeff Buckley, you got nothing on him.

3. Nina Simone - A powerhouse vocalist with a unique quality to her voice.
