MovieForums 2018: The Tournament

64 enter. 1 wins.

Short & Simple Rules

1. In each round, the user who registers 4 votes first, that is best out of 7, wins the matchup. Matchup winners advance to the next round of the tournament.

2. You cannot vote on a matchup you are directly involved in, not even a "symphathy" vote against yourself counts.

3. Wait to post your votes until I make the post for that Round. (The first portion of the 1st round will begin immediately)

Feel at liberty to have fun with it, thoughts / ideas / gifs are welcomed along with votes.

I will be the most transparent tournament host MovieForums ever created. The tournament bracket is attached, as well as an un-finished-at-this-time image I started today in Photoshop. Right now there's just 16 included, but all 64 members involved in the tournament will be on it within the next day or so. It took me a while to put the tournament and partial image together, but I've got to get some sleep before my night-shift this evening. I'll also start tagging everyone soon as well, if you feel like you should be on here- you are. It might take you a second to find your name. I'll tag everyone soon.

It's freaky to me that you just created this thread, Nostromo. I literally woke up today with Celebrity Deathmatch on my mind, and even though I'm allergic to creating threads myself, I was entertaining the idea of making a thread where I pit MoFos against each other in a fight to the death. I was just going to write down "action" that attempted to incorporate various characteristics of MoFos as they try to slaughter each other in colorful ways, and maybe throw in a bunch of 80's WWF graphics, so it's very different from this tournament, but it's still similar enough to make me think that we might be tuned into the same telepathic channel.

I only know Stirchley as the woman who never finishes any of the movies she watches, and apparently she's annoyed by everything as well, whereas Camo has long been one of the best MoFos and his absences always make this place far less interesting. I think he's one of the most vital MoFos. And his drunken tirades are also hilarious. #TeamCamo

Miss Vicky, your 1st round adversary is nebbit, the big-boobed one. All the first round matchups are already listed on the bracket I attached on the first post, actually.

Also, I agree with Captain Spaulding , that's about how I see it as well, get crazy, let loose, have fun with the gifs, within the rules of the forum of course. Like one big battle.

Maybe a better idea, than putting us all together so we can fight each other, would be to, like, unite as one commando group, go invade some other website, and absorb them into MovieForums or something. Iroquois on the same team as me? The universe would explode. How could we lose?

Notes- The Gunslinger edged out Holden Pike in a match between two excellent members who don't come around a whole lot, although I did see Holden Pike several times recently on Camo's Album Countdown. Mr Minio, who often takes sh~ts on my threads, got beat out by Dadgumblah, who always reps my "Rate the Last Movie You Saw" posts. Sexy Celebrity fell behind heavy underdog NedStark09 2 to 1, but then coasted to victory. Another reminder, I'll stay consistent with the rules in the first post. It's best out of 7- so first to 4 votes wins. That will keep the tournament flowing fast without having to wait arbitrarily for a bigger pool of ballots to come in. It was hard to see Doubledenim against Joel already, but as I'll get into in the next post, I'm not picking the matchups. I said I'd be transparent, so I'll get more into that next.

This is how I set up the tournament, for anyone who's interested.

Applied the model of the NCAA College Basketball Tournament attached below. There are four regions of sixteen teams each, and within each region, teams are seeded 1 through 16. In the overall tournament, that means there are four #1 seeds, four #2 seeds, four #3 seeds, etc, etc, up to four #16 seeds. I then matched that to MovieForums members. Here's my handwritten notes from yesterday when I set this up. I'll post the next part of the First Round shortly.

One of my favorite things on Movie Forums is seeing Gideon randomly reply to a post that's several years old, often without even quoting said post, so you don't even know what he's referring to. He's our review leader and he creates a ton of unique lists, but I rarely see him interact with anyone other than Citizen Rules. Captain Steel seems to give his opinion on everything but movies, but my limited interactions with him have been pleasant and I admire his candidness. Vote: Captain Steel.

MovieMed vs 7thson

I got to know 7thson a little in the last year and I like him, but I know MM better. I also feel somewhat responsible for him not being around much anymore, since after he came to my defense when I freaked out during Survivor.

Cosmic vs Hashtag

Toughest match of the whole first round for me. They're both pretty active and I've interacted with both the same. I have more in common with Hash but Cosmic has these uncanny social skills. The tiebreaker is Cosmic has been here longer.

Iroquois vs Daniel

Daniel has always been one of my favorite members but he's just not around enough to compete with what Iro has done consistently for so long.

JayDee vs Neiba

Another brutal match. Neiba is awesome and active. I just adore JayDee and always have. When I see him around it makes me very happy. Still, If Neiba posted as much as some of our most active members, I'd have to go his way.

Raul vs ynwtf

Easy call because Raul has done so much for so long. No slight against ynwtf because he's been great since he's been here.

Love both these guys but it's another match that comes down to time put in.

I've had positive experiences with both. 7th mainly through Survivor, he's intelligent, fun and I'm glad he's around. But MM was the first person I clicked with on here, and the bitch pulls through with the Instagram likes, so I'll vote for him.

Cosmic vs Hashtag
I've seen Hashtag around, and he seems like a nice fella and I doubt he'll need my vote. I miss the days of me, Cosmic and Topsy though. I couldn't have hosted the Mofies without her and I'm glad I've met her.

Iro vs Daniel
I love following Iro's posts in the political threads because I agree with him more often than not, and I find his takes on things interesting. But I've had more personal interaction with Daniel. Mainly though Survivor, shock. But still, could have gone either way.

JayDee isn't around much, so I know little of him.

ynwtf vs Rauld
Rauld is a sweet guy, I enjoyed his company on Survivor. I don't really know ynwtf too well.

This is one of those things, I'm glad it's happened because it's intended to be light hearted and fun, and I'm actually enjoying it to be fair. I can understand people wanting to opt out though. I did because I find it hard not to take things to heart at times.

Then I just ask myself what Vicky would do, think of Joaquin Phoenix in Quills and move on.

It's cool if others find it fun or whatever but i'd rather not be a part of it, i know chypmunk feels the same and i was expecting him to get out.

I personally feel they are all popularity contests.. doesn't matter how good you are at what you enjoy watching or how you review.. its based on who likes you and who doesnt..

I don't write reviews because I would tell the whole film.. so yeah but if I enjoy a movie enough.. I will pass it on to people I know who will enjoy it...

I actually don't disagree with you, and a part of me felt like asking out of the last couple mofies or whatever. But then I thought about how much it sucked when others opted out and personally I would feel like a party pooper. I get it though.

MovieMeditation hasn't come around much, but he really put a lot into his movie write-ups and for quite a while, and I don't believe that should be easily forgotten.

Not to mention that when you do post publicly, you often talk about how "awesome" you are and how this person or that person can confirm your awesomeness. How about instead of doing that - which is in itself a huge turnoff - you actually show this alleged awesomeness?

Cricket is definitely a galvanizing member and I mean that as a compliment. He seems like a really interesting and passionate person and hopefully we can get to know each other better at some point. We are similar in some regards. Tactitus though is someone I know a little better and he even offered me a cool place to stay when my wife and I were supposed to visit his neck of the woods so he gets my vote on this one. We were not able to make it due to medical crap, but we still plan on going, hopefully in the near future.
