I didn't watch anything else for this after because I watched Swiss Army Man instead. But the week is still young, and I think I'll definitely get around to a few more matches before it's over. In the meantime though:

Mary and Max - Miss Vicky vs Fantastic Mr. Fox - Raul
While I didn't overly enjoy either of these films, I did occasionally smile at Mary and Max, and found the ending to be unexpectedly touching. The few things I actually like from Anderson's films were missing or underplayed in Fantastic Mr. Fox, so there was unfortunately very little for me in that film.

Not sure if I'll being voting more but I did pick up Wind Rising because I have been wanting to see it and saw it at my library today and WOULD HAVE grabbed Howl's as well but someone else got it before me.

Since I ended up having another snow day today (one is practically unheard of, let alone two in a row!), I've already watched Persepolis. I think I'm going to watch The Wind Rises shortly and then vote in those two matches. I'll only have 2 left out of this set then, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to vote in everything this week since I can't seem to find Wrinkles anywhere.

Persepolis - Gatsby vs Chicken Run - Gatsby
I had to watch Chicken Run a few years ago as part of the animation portion of a film class I was taking at the time. I ended up liking it quite a bit more than expected, though that might just be because Mel Gibson lends his voice to it haha. Persepolis was a very different movie, so it's hard to really choose one over the other. Persepolis was much more emotional, and it did a good job combining a coming-of-age story with an educational illustration of the Iranian Revolution. I'm going to give Persepolis the vote, but it easily could've gone to Chicken Run.

Howl's Moving Castle - CiCi vs The Wind Rises - Cricket
While I was not a fan of Howl's Moving Castle, this choice was very easy for me. The Wind Rises feels incredibly long, and I was never invested in what was happening. Halfway through the film I had to pause it and ask my room mate if I was crazy, because whenever any air plane was on screen, all I could hear were people doing weird noises instead of actual sound effects. It was incredibly distracting to me. She had only seen the film once and didn't remember, but when I played back part of the film, she said I wasn't crazy because she could hear it too. So I googled it, and apparently it really was just some guys making fake plane noises. I can't believe anyone okayed that, because it sounded horrible to me. Luckily the second half had far fewer fake sound effects in it, but I found the story less interesting than the first half.

I remember being a bit put off by it, for me it was the earthquake scene, it sounded just wrong. I'm glad someone else shares my opinions on it though, like you said, I really wasn't invested in what was going on, and I found the romance aspect of it to be clumsy to say the least.

I just rewatch Howl's Moving Castle, amazing how every time I watch it I understand it a little more, I saw it as a kid and didn't understand anything, then i rewatch it and now again! "A fickle heart is the only constant in this world" :) Such a beatiful movie. I will watch Wind Rises next!

Let me explain something - if I may
This has been and continues to be, really quite an excellent tournament. A very, very wide assortment of movies AND some truly challenging, and therefore exciting match ups that have been utter hell to pick between.
Voting has given me cause to rewatch old favorites, finish up ones from long past and discover new ones.
This matching is another of those challengers. Two films from two utter extremes. Both dealing with their subject matter - one dark, one light - beautifully.
So how do you choose???
I truly cannot.
My vote is, simply, since it pretty much is a landslide and I'll most likely be voting for Perfect later on, SOMEbody should give Raul at least one vote (and this ain't sympathy, it's a cheer for the underdog in this match up)

Easy choice. Finding Nemo was better than I thought it would be, but it's not something I ever need to see again.

Another easy choice. While watching Porco Rosso my room mate came home and was excited to see it on, but then was disappointed that I wasn't watching the dub. Both my room mates really like the dub, mostly due to Michael Keaton. However I have no interest in watching the movie again in another language, even if Cary Elwes doing one of the voices piqued my interest a little.

I'm not going to go into why he was banned, but he's been disillusioned with the site for awhile and he's talked about leaving before. The temporary ban was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

This was a tough decision. After my recent viewings of Miyazaki films, I have a feeling I wouldn't like Princess Mononoke as much if I rewatched it though.

I liked Wall-E more when I rewatched it for the Animated HoF, but it doesn't quite compare to how much more I enjoyed Paprika when I rewatched it earlier in this tournament.

I really liked the first 10 minutes of Up, but found the rest of the film to be just okay. Overall I liked it a little more than Bambi though.

Both these films start off really strong, but lose my interest a little afterwards. As a whole though, they're both solid films, so this was not an easy decision at all. After much contemplation (and deliberation with my room mates), I've made up my mind.

Up vs Wall-E
Up manages to hit a few emotional notes that resonated well with me, so it gets a slight edge and my vote.
