View Full Version : 2016 MoFo Mega Movie Tournament

The mega style movie tournament is back after garnering enough interest from all of you guys. The format will remain the same: an 128 movie tournament. However due to some people expressing more of an interest in a reshuffling of match ups after each round, there will NOT be designated brackets this go around.

Instead, I will post 8 matchups at a time, giving each round a month to vote. There will be overlapping as in previous tournaments (quite more than usual).

I'm only going to disqualify previous winners from being in this tournament which is:
2011- 2001: A Space Odyssey
2012- Le Cercle Rouge
2013- There Will Be Blood

A lot of information, I know.

The nomination process can already begin. Each person can nominate two films until we reach 32. Once 32 films is reached, people can have two nominations, so on and so on.

Who will be the champion in 2014? We will find out.

That's the post from Raul to start out the last movie tournament, and all the same rules apply.

Here are the movies you can't nominate:

2011: 2001: A Space Odyssey
2012: Le Cercle Rouge
2013: There Will Be Blood
2014: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I joined the director debut tournament. That one was fun. I think I like the specialized stuff more. Honestly though I started to get annoyed because we were only supposed to vote if we had seen both and people weren't. It annoys me when people can't be honest with simple things, even if it's for fun. I shouldn't be that way but can't help it.

Yeah it bothers me too. On the other side of the coin, i remember Werckmeister Harmonies got very far in a tournament (it may have even won) because not enough people had seen it to vote

Would anyone be interested in a TV version of this? I would run it. Not sure if it would work as well since some people here don't watch as much TV as they do movies, but it could be smaller if need be maybe 64?

How much of the TV show would you have to watch in order to be able to vote?

Camo
06-05-16, 12:26 PM
I was thinking about that. Don't know maybe 5 episodes? I think a season especially of the 20+ episode shows or the hour long 13 episode ones is a bit too much to ask someone to watch if they aren't enjoying it. Everyone taking part can give their view on that and we'll come to a decision.

Well, if you are sure. It's funny, but I'm now watching Fright Night, and thinking how that would be a cool choice, too. I'm awful. I could do this all week long, and then some. No worries. Night of the Living Dead it is.

I read through the copied part of my original post, and the rule Raul used was a month for each round to give people a chance to see everything if they want to. I might lower that to either two or three weeks though. It just depends on feedback.

Well, depending on how many people are involved, and if they think this is alright to do, maybe you can take a vote. Make it something like a two, three, or four week run with each set. Personally, I'd either say two or three weeks. I'm not sure which I'd pick, just yet. Anyways, just sayin'.

If you plan on watching movies in order to vote for some of these matches that you missed on your initial vote, please don't go back and edit your original post. Instead just vote for the matches in their own post, because it makes things easier on me. I try to stay on top of the scores, so if you edit a previous post, I might miss the vote. If I ever fall behind and you post your new votes and edit your previous votes, that might lead to me counting both votes. So please just put new votes in their own posts. Thanks, everybody.

You can still vote on the matches that JJ posted but you can't nominate any. Here they are:

Dark City - 3
The Fly - 6

Last of the Mohicans - 6
Halloween - 3

Rififi - 2
MM: Fury Road - 4

The Thing - 10
Up - 5

Taken
The Big Country - 4

Naked - 4
The General - 2

Videodrome - 3
Fail-Safe - 6

Moneyball - 2
Jaws - 10

You obviously need to have seen both films to vote in a match.

Are you kidding me? I love all of that director's movies. Capote is great, and he did Foxcatcher which was my favorite movie from 2014. His movies are so realistic and I always harp on how I can't stand how unrealistic Hollywood movies are.

Capote is great

It really is.

Haven't seen Foxcatcher, been thinking about watching it soon since Netflix released a documentary about the same events called Team Foxcatcher. Think it would be better watching the movie first so my view isn't coloured by what actually happened, i know that some people had a problem with how certain characters were portrayed and that is the exact sort of thing that annoys me about some very good movies even though it shouldn't and i don't want it to.
