15. FALL OUT
(1977, Single)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Av29Jp8Ryk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiHRAKcD1Jk
This song was the very first song to ever be recorded and released by the English trio called The Police, consisting of lead singer and bassist Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland, and guitarist Andy Summers. The song was written by Copeland, and was straight-out punk rock.

This song was the second track on The Police's massively successful album Synchronicity. The mid-tempo song is one of the band's most overlooked songs.

13. SPIRITS IN A MATERIAL WORLD
(1981, Ghosts In The Machine)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k8ZW8wr68k
This song was written by Sting. It is known for being one of the songs by The Police and the early explorations of Sting, both as part of the band and a solo artist, that infused rock music with reggae and ska.
Why only 15 songs? Why does my 2nd fav band only get 15 while Madonna gets 40!:D
Alright, calm down Gatsby. So far I like all your picks Mojo, Fall Out and Walking in Your Footsteps is underrated (especially the former) and Spirits In a Material World boasts an interesting composition and lyrics.

I honestly am not an expert on The Police's entire back catalog as much as you are, I think.
Plus, I'm trying to quickly get through this one. The Doors thread lasted more than a week :)

11. WALKING ON THE MOON
(1979, Reggatta de Blanc)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbv-LcdLY-Y
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk4WRhPQuyo
This song was written by Sting one night after a concert in Munich. He was laying around in his hotel room drunk when he heard the riff in his head and walked around the room singing "Walking around the room..." The song ended up with a different title and becoming one of their biggest hit singles.

Synchronicity is one of my favorites
Synchro II is my fav song from Synchronicity. Including the lyrics and Sting's powerful voice, I also totally dig the worn-down future look of the music video.
Walking on the Moon features innovative drumming by Stewart Copeland - I've been trying to imitate his drum part for many years, but fail at every attempt.

10. INVISIBLE SUN
(1981, Ghost In The Machine)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWcRakSS4J4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTpXRsqztb0
This song was written by Sting about Northern Ireland's struggle for freedom, as a way of saying that even though the light at the end of the tunnel seemed invisible, that they should not lose hope. At the time, the song was considered the darkest material the band released. The song was also a universal message to all parts of the world that lived in struggle and had the determination to keep living. In interviews, Copeland has said that song was about the struggles in Lebanon, where he grew up, during its devastating civil war in the 70's and 80's.

9. DE DO DO DO, DE DA DA DA
(1980, Zenyatta Mondatta)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v2GDbEmjGE
This song was written by Sting. It's possibly the most misunderstood Police song. At the time, the song was dismissed as ridiculous due to it's childish and nonsensical title. In an interview, Sting has said that the song was about people's attraction to simple songs, and stated, "I was trying to make an intellectual point about how the simple can be so powerful. Why are our favorite songs 'Da Doo Ron Ron' and 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy'? In the song, I tried to address that issue. But everyone said, 'This is ********, child's play.' No one listened to the lyrics. Listen to the lyrics." The song's title was inspired by something Sting heard his young son say.
'This is ********, child's play.' No one listened to the lyrics. Listen to the lyrics."
Yep, listen to the lyrics:
"Poets, priests and poiticians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
And no one's jamming their transmission
'Cos when their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you"

8. CAN'T STAND LOSING YOU
(1978, Outlandos d'Amour)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH0vjLwMyc4
This song was written by Sting and has become one of the Police's signature songs. He reportedly wrote the entire song in 5 minutes about a teenage suicide.
I can't quite point out what it is, but something about Can't Stand Losing You makes it real catchy. I could listen to the song all day.

7. DON'T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME
(1980, Zenyatta Mondatta)
(*Remixed Version: 1986, Every Breath You Take: The Singles)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNIZofPB8ZM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1hVOz_NwXI
This song was written by Sting about a school girl's infatuation with her teacher. The song's lyrics features references to Vladimir Nabokov's classic novel "Lolita" which shares the same theme, and from which the song was inspired.
In 1986, following the band's break-up, a remixed, faster, and more rock-edged version of the song was released.
Both versions are equally incredible.

5. ROXANNE
(1978, Outlandos d'Amour)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T1c7GkzRQQ
This song was written by Sting. It was inspired by the prostitutes that frequented the hotel he and the rest of the band stayed in in Paris, France during one of their underground tours. The song was the Police's breakthrough single in the US and around the world.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFN5DveQH0o

3. WRAPPED AROUND YOUR FINGER
(1983, Synchronicity)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svWINSRhQU0
This song was written by Sting. It was one of many personal songs Sting wrote for the Synchronicity album, the others being Every Breath You Take and King Of Pain. This song was written as a spiteful message about turning the tables on someone who had been in charge. The song also features literary and mythological references, which was a predominant theme for Police songs at the time. The video to the song is one of the most memorable Police videos during the heyday of MTV.

Roxanne is probably fav Police song. I know all the lyrics, drum parts, chords, and even the little nuances and accents.
King of Pain is great, but Wrapped Around Your Finger is mediocre. It sounds like a bland pop song, because that's what it is.

Everything about MTV and Nickelodeon and Sesame Street and all of those things we had in the 1980's and early '90s was a massive head trip for those who us born in that decade with access to as much television as we wanted. I honestly think part of what seems to me to be incredible nostalgia young adults have nowadays to all of that stuff... is simply because it was so artful and mesmerizing and people don't wanna have to let go of these things that were so creative and incredible. You know, why throw away the old Nintendo or whatever when the games were works of art?

1. EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE
(1983, Synchronicity)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOGaugKpzs
This song was written by Sting. It was one of many personal songs Sting wrote for the Synchronicity album, the others being Wrapped Around Your Finger and King Of Pain. The haunting bass-driven track that Sting wrote at the time he was separating from his first wife and beginning a new relationship with his current wife, who just happened to be an old friend of his ex-wife was about a possessive lover who and watches and stalks the object of his desire. The song became the biggest single in the band's entire career, spending an astonishing 9 weeks at Number 1 in the US.
