Not that any one cares but I'll be listing a favourite episode for some but not for others. There's no way I could pick a best episode from shows like The Wire.

Camo is a little bit country, and he's a little bit rock and roll.
50.Dragon Ball Z
This is of course a nostalgic pick but I couldn't imagine not having this on my list. I haven't seen it in years and I'm scared it will be ruined if I do, I also haven't seen it all only seeing up to the Cell Saga. Still this was pretty much the best thing in the world to 8 year old me.
http://i60.tinypic.com/snf0x1.jpg
Favourite character: Vegeta (One of the most unintentionally hilarious characters in anything.)
49.Silicon Valley
It only has two seasons so far, its been great so far though. All of the main cast are great particularly Martin Starr who will be appearing a few times on this list. I think this is really under seen as I haven't met anyone who has seen it.
http://i60.tinypic.com/263edxj.jpg
Favourite Character: Gilfoyle (Starr is great as the weirdest of an incredibly weird bunch)
48.Party Down
Can't believe this was cancelled. Most shows I can understand why no one was watching, but there was no reason for this amazing comedy to die :(. Yet again Starr appears as the best of a solid cast. Jane Lynch and her second season replacement Megan Mullaly deserve mention too.
http://i62.tinypic.com/23wmlc9.jpg
Favourite Character: Roman (Pretty much the same as Gilfoyle, but his schtick never gets old for me)
47.Rick And Morty
I can see this getting a lot higher top twenty maybe. This show works on all levels, it is incredibly wacky but there re some devastating scenes like the ending to Rick Potion No. 9. Watch this if you haven't yet.
http://i62.tinypic.com/a38dh.jpg
Favourite Character: Rick (It had to be the alcoholic, sociopathic grandpa. Love Jerry and Morty too.
46.Parks and Recreation
Like Rick and Morty this could get a lot higher. Only started watching recently, I watched the first four episodes a while ago but Season 1 is pretty bad. It may surprise some that Ron isn't my fave character, it is actually April. Obviously I love Ron too though, and Andy and Tom and... yeah pretty much the full cast.
http://i62.tinypic.com/24y5tm9.jpg
Favourite Character: April (Aubrey Plazas deadpan devilery is just perfect for this show. I love how she treats Anne and Jerry in this show)
I like Parks and Rec too. I find everyone has a different favorite character, and yeah Ron is one of the more popular ones, but I like most of them equally.

Your format sucks. :p
Also, I don't watch any of that.
I like Parks and Rec too. I find everyone has a different favorite character, and yeah Ron is one of the more popular ones, but I like most of them equally.
The only character I don't like that much is Ben, think its the actor actually. Which is odd since he's the main character in Party Down.
Your format sucks. :p
Also, I don't watch any of that.
Yeah it does. Its just really irritating to do something decent on this tablet.
If I had to suggest one of those to you it would be Party Down but I'm not sure you'd like any of them.
This feels a little premature.
That's what she said.
Only one I have watched so far is Park And Rec. I like it once and a while. Couldn't ever get hard core with it though.
Pretty sure Sean, Camo and I can all agree that one particularly show is way better.

I think I stopped Silicon Valley by the ad break of the first episode. Or was that the second episode? I really can't remember. Anyway, nothing wrong with it, just another one of those American half hour sitcoms. With this kind of thing it mostly depends on how much time I have and what I have to watch as to how long I stick with it. I remember my schedule being crowded when this started and it was just easier to delete something I wasn't into at all.
I've tried an episode or two of Parks & Recreations. See above.

We'll see what happens. My internet has been slow over the past few weeks, when it picks up I'm definitely interested.
Honey kid was it Season one episodes of Parks and Rec? Honestly the first season is pretty bad, it doesn't pick up to a few episodes into Season 2.

Yes, it was the first episode or two of the first season. I might give it another go, but it really doesn't look or sound like something I'd like. I only gave it a go because some friends had brought It away with us and wanted to watch it.
Sure your thinking of the right show? Isn't that an HBO show?
Yes, it shows on Sky Atlantic over here and that has ads.
Yeah there's every chance the show is not for you but I wouldn't base that off the first season. It is very bland and none of the characters are on point yet. I actually watched the first four episodes ages ago and never returned til last month for those reasons.

I've only watched the first five so far so I don't know what the Seventh is like, pretty sure it is the last one. I would say no, there is continuity in the show each season focuses on a new part of Leslie's career, characters leave, etc. So it would be better starting at the beginning or even Season 2 since the first is only six episodes and not really that important.
Rep for Dragonball Z
I need to see Parks and Rec but Chris Pratty is what's making me not be in hurry.

Parks and Rec I've seen bits and pieces of but nothing popped out at me.
Rick and Morty I saw it for the first time last weekend and thought it was good but not 9.3 tv rating on IMDB good.

Not seen a single episode of Party Down or Silicon Valley[/I. The other three I like. I have only seen twenty or so eps of DBZ, but all my friends love it. I enjoyed what I saw, it's a silly, fun show. I love the other two shows, [I]Rick and Morty and Parks and Rec. Parks is one of my favorite shows of all-time, and I could see Rick and Morty rising up that list with more episodes.
45.Would I Lie To You?
http://i64.tinypic.com/2lsbodg.jpg
The first of a few British panel shows to turn up.Since I'm sure most haven't seen this, basically there are three rounds, in the first and third one of the contestants get selected they have a card under their desk it contains either something they told the producers or a lie the producers made up, they then need to convince the other team of the opposite. In themiddle round someone comes out who is connected to one of the three contestants, so two make something up and the other team has to pick the one telling the truth. This format creates some hhilarious situations, but the best thing about the show IMO is David Mitchell and Lee Macks chemistry. Weirdly for this type of show I actually have a fave episode, the one where Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges has to convince the other team that he's lying about buying a horse in Bulgaria :D
44.House of Cards (both)
http://i68.tinypic.com/e6c36o.jpg
Yeah I'm cheating a bit here but I couldn't pick between them. I think both of these have their strengths over each other, for instance I feel the US version is darker and more gripping while I feel the UK one is funnier and more consistent since I wasn't crazy about Season three of the US one. Also I think I lightly prefer Francis (UK) to Frank but I feel the US one has better secondary characters overall. I highly suggest fans of one should watch the other, their honestly different enough to not feel like you're watching the same show.
Favourite Character: Francis/Frank (Special mention to Claire and Doug)
I have watched all of the US House Of Cards. I think it keeps getting worse. Not sure I'll watch the fourth season. Really like the first season though.

Yeah I agree with that, I still really like the second though. You should check out the UK one.

I may do that. Wonder if it's on Netflix.
43.How I Met Your Mother
http://i68.tinypic.com/akil5g.png
Despite the awfulness of the last two seasons at one point this show was a fun watch with likeable characters. I don't feel even at its peak that it reached the level of some of the other comedies to come, but it was still an easy fairly consistent show that I stuck with. Barney and especially Marshall made this show for me, the latter is a bit higher for me since I don't feel his character was ever ruined like Barney.
Favourite Character: Marshall
42.The West Wing
http://i65.tinypic.com/25fkb43.jpg
Like many shows on this list I feel this went through a big decline after Season 4 IMO, but when it was on form it was brilliant. Maybe a bit preachy and cheesy at times, it handled a lot of tough issues really well, and I find myself a fan of Sorkins (No one in real life speaks this way) dialogue.
Favourite Character: C.J (Close one between her and Josh, the whole cast were great though)
41.Archer
http://i65.tinypic.com/2a0174n.jpg
At first this show was a bit jarring for me since H.Jon Benjamin uses the exact same voice for Archer that he uses for Bob from Bobs Burgers. Once I got over that I was hooked on this though. Archer reminds me a lot of a character in an upcoming show who while a moron is clearly amazing at his job. All the other characters are great too from his Boss/Mom who is just like Lucille Bluth, to the rest of the ladies to Cyril who at times is my fave character.
Favourite Character:Archer (He makes me laugh the most but it is pretty close between him and Cyril)

45.Would I Lie To You?
Weirdly for this type of show I actually have a fave episode, the one where Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges has to convince the other team that he's lying about buying a horse in Bulgaria :D
That is a funny episode. :D I think I'd have a few of these panel shows on my list, too. I had one on the list I sent in for the tv countdown.
Archer was something I thought I'd watch but didn't catch and so I haven't bothered with it. I got into How I Met Your Mother late (as with The Big Bang Theory I didn't like the first couple of episodes so didn't watch it anymore) and I think it was about season 5 or 6 before I started to watch them. Unlike The Big Bang Theory though, I never really cared about any of the characters and it was only Barney, Lily and Robin who I liked. For me, Ted and Marshall are the Ross of The Big Bang Theory. The last season was terrible and I don't know if I've seen an episode since.
I've not seen any of The West Wing mainly because it was written by Sorkin and I find his liberal wet dream speeches bad enough in this other stuff. In a setting where he's given free reign I couldn't imagine watching it. I'm not saying it's not good or even that I don't like it, I can just see me cringing too often to enjoy it.

My runner up was the one Henning When had to say he was on the Interpol missing persons list :D. There's a few more to come.
Honestly I came to really hate Lily, but I watched the whole show so there was probably quite a few things you missed there. It was quite weird since I love Hannigan in Buffy. I can see the Ross-Ted comparison, but what didn't you like about Marshall?
Can totally see that with Sorkin. As I said it can be really preachy and cheesy, no doubt I cringed a few times but I loved it nonetheless.
Also Big Bang is awful :D

I did come to it late, but I think I've seen most of the episodes. It's not that I didn't like Marshall (or Ted for that matter) it's just that I don't care about them at all. Like Ross. For me their function is to provide for the other characters and for the plots. Leave the comedy to the characters who can work it.
For anyone looking at Would I Lie To You? I'm sure that Camo is not thinking about the first series or two (I'm not sure how many he did) with Angus Deayton. While it's the same programme with the same captains, Rob Brydon's introduction was the missing piece.

I actually felt Marshall and Barney were the funniest and Robin and Ted were the ones who weren't that often.
I think it was the first two and you're right it gets a lot better when Brydon joins. One of the best in Deaytons run was actually the one were Brydon was a guest IMO. They were also toying with the formula the first few seasons, like that round were they had to guess if a celebrity had said something. Glad they got rid of that.

No it isn't. :nope:
Anyways, rep for the US House of Cards, I've only seen the first season mainly because Fincher had a lot of control, and it was great. Kevin Spacey is better actor than I formally thought.

I felt the second half of Vice was better than the first. Not enough that you should watch it if you hated the episodes you watched though.

Yeah don't think you'll have seen a lot of these after your comments in the Countdown thread. Keep checking in though because there's a few I know you like.
I watched the first three seasons of How I Met Your Mother and thought it was great. It was my replacement for Friends for a bit. I grew tired of the shtick. I watched the last few episodes and realized I hadn't missed a thing, maybe a chuckle here and there.
I started watching West Wing last year and made it through two seasons. It's good but that is too many episodes to binge watch. Maybe I'll finish someday.

I really liked "Parks and Recreation". It is one of those shows where I actually enjoy all of the characters on it.
I always mean to watch "Rick and Morty", but I have yet to do it.
40.The Killing (US)
http://i66.tinypic.com/23i77ub.jpg
Yeah I haven't watched the Danish version. I wasn't even aware there was one when I started watching this. Despite hearing how superior that version is, I really like this one. I really love the gloomy atmosphere created, rainy Seattle was a great choice for the setting for this and Sarah and Stephen were great leads. Season 1 and 3 in particular were brilliant, the third season really reminded me of the documentary Streetwise obviously since both are about Seattle street kids. Tough watch.
Favourite Character: Sarah (Close between her and Stephen)
39.Freaks And Geeks
http://i65.tinypic.com/2urtj6v.jpg
Tough one to place since it only has one season but that season was great. I'm not at all confident the quality of the first would have continued or I may have had it higher. Like most I think I always liked the geeks better. Sam was a great geek leader I loved how everything always went wrong for him. Also Bill Haverchuck is my hero :D
Favourite Character: Bill (Three appearances for Starr, three fave characters)
38.Futurama
http://i63.tinypic.com/dcx3pg.jpg
I do feel this show has a decline post cancellation, but nowhere near as severe as its cousin The Simpsons IMO, yet I don't think its best was as good as The Simpsons best. I liked all of the Planet Express, as well as most of the side characters. This show was hilarious as well as having great emotional episodes, my fave made me cry the first time I watched it. Saying that I think it has one of the most overrated episodes in Jurrasic Bark.
Favourite Character: Bender (Fry and Farnsworth come close)
Favourite Episode: Luck of the Fryrish
37.American Horror Story
http://i65.tinypic.com/2chs6r8.jpg
Yes its full of every known Horror cliche and not very original at all, but this show is aa lot of fun when on form. On form is important there since its not the most consistent. Coven for example was a chore to finish, but I felt Murder House, Freak Show and especially Asylum were great. Love the recurring cast members particularly Jessica Lange.
36.Death Note
http://i65.tinypic.com/2rqeq6d.jpg
The second and final Anime to make the list. Before Guap comes in here guns blazing I'll point out I haven't seen many Anime shows. This show definitely declined after something happened, I'm sure anyone who has seen it knows what I'm talking about. The game of cat and mouse between L and Light and the tension between them when they finally meet are the peak of the show. I even liked the post L part of the show.
Favourite Character: L (Light was great too)

I liked them quite a bit, and I love Undeclared. I really don't have a reason not to watch it.
Speaking of Undeclared, have you seen any of it? If not, I think you'd like it.

Nah been meaning to for a while just too many shows to watch. Going to watch that after I'm finished with Parks and Rec actually since it is so short.

[B]36.Death Note
The second and final Anime to make the list. Before Guap comes in here guns blazing I'll point out I haven't seen many Anime shows. This show definitely declined after something happened, I'm sure anyone who has seen it knows what I'm talking about. The game of cat and mose between L and Light and the tension between them when they finally meet are the peak of the show. I even liked the post L part of the show.
Favourite Character: L (Light was great too)
I haven't watched that one. Though it looks entertaining considering it is the most popular anime among the users in MyAnimeList. I didn't care much about series considered similar to it.
It is a good show Guap. Not sure what you'll think of it though.

I will read the manga. :D It's banned in China by the way (because it will corrupt the minds of teenagers).

Have you seen the movies, Camo? I've avoided the anime series because I love the two movies so much I didn't want to risk ruining them. You know, because I'm sure the series will provide a lot more details, but I've seen the movies five times now, so I figure I'll give the series a chance. I'm in the process of acquiring the series and I'll watch them on the plane when I go on vacation next month.
I have not Kaplan. Definitely interested in checking them out. I actually just watched the Series last month, binge watched it pretty fast. Hope you enjoy the show as much as the films :)
Death Note is a Top 10 anime for me.
For some reason, I think MV will like it.
Oh and I luuurve Futurama. :)
My heart broke when that and Firefly got cancelled.

35.Lie To Me
http://i64.tinypic.com/1zwixi0.jpg
Another excellent show that was cancelled :(. Not sure how many here would've heard of, never mind seen this. Basically it follows Dr. Cal Light man who is essentially a human lie detector, each episode follows him and his team working on different cases giving to them. Ridiculous premise but really addictive. I powered through this on Netflix and only realised it was cancelled once I was finished :(. Tim Roth plays the lead, without him the show wouldn't work as the rest of the cast are a bit bland, he is fantastic though.
Favourite Character: Cal
34.Still Game
http://i66.tinypic.com/maf4wo.png
The token Scottish show :D. I'm sure its a surprise to no one that most Scottish shows are terrible, but this is a big exception for me. About two pensioners Jack and Victor and members of their fictional community Craig Lang, episodes usually consist of them spending time in their local pub The Clansman, the shop Naveeds or each others houses. Maybe it sounds boring but its full of humour and situations I personally connect with, not even sure I'd recommend it to anyone well not without subtitles anyway :p. Also a scene was shot right next to my old house, I'm standing just out of shot while they are filming :D.
Favourite Character: Winston (Jack and Victor come close)
33.Married With Children

Haven't watched this in ages but I had to include this as I was pretty obsessed with it a one point. Not even sure how many episodes I've seen actually. While I liked Peggy and the kids, this was the All Bundy show. Despite how mysogynistic, exit and just foul in general he was, he was still pretty awesome

37.American Horror Story
Yes its full of every known Horror cliche and not very original at all, but this show is aa lot of fun when on form. On form is important there since its not the most consistent. Coven for example was a chore to finish, but I felt Murder House, Freak Show and especially Asylum were great. Love the recurring cast members particularly Jessica Lange.
I have finally decided to watch this. There is someone coming on in the new season that I really like. I planned on watching for this one actor. So I wanted to watch every other season before that one started. I requested the first season from the library the other day. It always looked like it would be pretty good. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Al Bundy is basically a less content Homer Simpson. Which is why he's brilliant. :yup:
I watched most/all of the first season of the US version of The Killing. It was OK. I wasn't down on it, but it's not a patch on the Danish version. That version is also one of the few programmes which gets better with each series, though it only goes to three, so that makes sense.
Forgot to mention Lie To Me. I always liked it, though it's very much like House without the supporting cast.

I'm going to try The Original Killing at one point. Do you know if it is the exact same mysteries and exact same conclusions? Not that it would matter that much since there was much more to the US one than the mystery.
Glad to see someone else watch and like Lie To Me :). Wasn't expecting that.

I watched Lie To Me from season to season as I have Sky. This also means I knew it was getting cancelled. :(
One of the things I didn't like about it was the first season of the US version finishes about halfway through the Danish version. I think that was one of the main reasons I didn't watch the second season. From what I'd seen, I'd assume the first 2 seasons (or maybe season and half) will be the same as the Danish version. But I don't know.
32.The Office (US)
http://i65.tinypic.com/24b9sau.jpg
Sorry it wasn't a bit higher Swan and Sean ;). This was a bit hard to find a place for since I really don't like the last two seasons or Carells last that much actually, but the first six were gold particularly 2-5. Also committed a bit of blasphemy here being a Brit and preferring the American version, think that's a combination of seeing this first as well as it being longer. Just such a wonderful group of zany characters, everyone played their role perfectly and hadtheir moments. I'd still say this was Michael and Dwight's show though, I think I give the former the slight edge since he feels a bit more original. I feel like I've seen Dwight's character a lot, for instance he's a lot like Ron Swanson.
Favourite Character: Michael
31.The Simpsons
http://i63.tinypic.com/14j92fm.jpg
This was easily the hardest to place on my list. The first nine seasons were the perfect blend of humour, emotion and satire. Season ten to present has just gotten increasingly worse though, its just a bland, humourless shadow of the greatness it produced in the 90s. Still on the strength of its 90s output I had to find a place for it.

I watched it from the very beginning until the end. Even though I think the show lost it a little, too, after Carell left, I was still very committed to it until the very end. Michael has to be one of my favorite characters of all time. If I ever could accomplish a list of favorite TV characters, I think he would be pretty high on it.

Ok I've seen The Office and The Simpsons, each a few times. Both good shows!
The Office is :up::up::up::up:
The Simpsons is brilliant. Second favorite sitcom of all-time, just behind Seinfield. Actually it would be my favorite, but since the 21st century quality has gone down so much, and I rarely watch it anymore. At least all the old goodies are on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vmn5NUv_kgY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbLVEHMswD4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA50fz9ZWE0
I watched that Itchy and Scratchy vid in one sitting. I really don't have a life.
You know I love The Office. I also love The Simpsons, at least the first ten seasons. I was really into animation as a kid. I remember - it must've been sixth grade - I was always drawing Fred Flintstone, pretty much anywhere I could. We had to put paper on our textbooks to protect them, and people could write on them. Mine was covered in drawings of Fred Flintstone. I also drew The Simpsons. I remember drawing a large portrait of Marge, and had it open on my desk in class. People started noticing and they were all blown away by it. It was one of the few times in my youth I had actually gotten praise for something, so that memory means a lot to me.

That's awesome Swan. Man I loved and was actually good at drawing as a kid, just stopped doing it :(. When Attack of the Clones was released pretty much every male in my class was obsessed with Star Wars and we managed to convince our teacher to allow us to draw during reading time. Well long story short I drew a picture that I still have somewhere of Obi-Wan fighting Darth Maul and got a certificate for it :D:cool:
Another story from my drawing career before I start ranting. When I was 8 or 9 I entered a competition in a Spiderman comic it was basically just draw something Spiderman related. I had a figure of the Silver/Armored whatever Spiderman and drew him running, it took me ages and the backgrounds, etc were really detailed especially for a 8/9 year old. Anyway I finished second which got me a free year subscription to the comic, first place was a trip to Florida/ Universal Studios. Best thing about it is that I was already going to Florida that summer :D
Been really busy over the past few days so ive been unable to update this. Will post two now and 8 tomorrow so i'm back on track.
30. 8 Out Of 10 Cats
http://i65.tinypic.com/2m3lbes.jpg
The second British panel show to appear after Would I Lie To You? It is a topical quiz show based on polls and statistics. Much less like a quiz show than WILTY, it is basically just 30 minutes of them making jokes about whatever is in the news. Again it is the regulars who make this, pretty sure Sean Lock is the best thing in existence. He uses the overused grumpy grandpa schtick but too perfection, and is also very witty and likeable. The host Jimmy Carr is of course one of the UKs finest comedians his laugh alone usually makes things funnier. While not one of my favourites i also think Jon is a much better fit to the show than Jason Manford or Dave Spikey.
i dont have a favourite episode but one of the best that came to mind right away was the christmas special with Jedward when Sean gets drunk :D
29.Buffy The Vampire Slayer
http://i65.tinypic.com/2luyiyo.jpg
Kinda think this should be higher but my problem is that i think it only has three great seasons 2,3 and 5. Season 1 while very enjoyable just doesnt have any standout episodes my fave is Nightmares, it also has a very generic big bad storyline. Season 4 has Riley..ugh, and possibly the worst big bad story and characterisation of Buffy. Six and Seven are just dull and not to spoil anything but six really screws with one of my favourite characters. Despite this they all have their moments and there are to many great characters to name.
Favourite character: Xander

I watched H&A from the start. Not sure how long I watched it for, but I remember watching an episode thinking, "OK this is the last one" and that was the episode where Fisher's son collapsed with a brain tumour and died. :D So I was there for a good few years after that. I've probably not watched it for about 20 years, though. I was watching it when this young lady was in it, though.

And then her 'husband' appeared in Neighbours a few years ago. A friend of mine was a big fan, though, so I saw it fairly regularly until ITV lost the rights to it.
It was never as good as Neighbours, though. Not even close.

Haven't seen most of these, unsurprisingly, but some good picks from what I have seen.
I really like Parks and Rec. To anyone (like HK) who has only seen a couple of episodes from the first season and given up, keep going! When my husband started watching it I said it was just another Office-style mockumentary but it gets much funnier. Ron is especially great "any dog under 50lb is a cat and cats are pointless."
Buffy is great, of course, and the episode of Would I Lie to You with Kevin Bridges and the horse is hilarious. Another highlight for me was David Mitchell trying to lie about dressing to look inconspicuous, "but not so inconspicuous as to be in itself conspicuous". Like wearing a grey tie.

28.Columbo

Columbo is something i only got into in the last two or three years. As a kid i remember it always being on and thinking it looked really old and crappy, like Murder She Wrote which as it turns out is pretty crappy :p. Glad i finally gave it a chance as it is really great, not sure if i've seen every episode but when i see it on i try to make time. Columbo is probably one of my 20 favourite characters in all of Television, i love how witty, cunning and perceptive he is despite how dopey he usually acts. Great premise too, it is a very nice touch to give the viewer the answers right away then watch how he figures it all out.
Favourite Character - Mrs.Columbo (Nah seriously who do you think it is)
27.Frasier
http://i65.tinypic.com/27ybgh2.jpg
Alot like Columbo i think i would have avoided this if it wasn't for the mornings before school. Here in the UK from like 6 AM to 10 or something Channel 4 show a number of US sitcoms, basically i'd watch 2 episodes of Friends then the first of Frasier before i had to leave. If it hadn't been for this i doubt i would have watched it because from the outside looking in especially at that age it looks a bit dull but when given a chance it is one of the most entertaining shows out there. With a show i love this much you'd think it would be higher, like alot on this list i feel Frasier has a significant decline specifically from when Niles and Daphny get together. Like Columbo, Niles is a top 20 Tv character for me.
Favourite Character - Niles
26.Batman: The Animated Series

Glad to see another West Wing and The Killing fan.
There should be some episodes on YT, i think you'll like it even though Carr is the host he plays as big of a part as the rest. How did you come across Carr?
I listen to comedians on Pandora, or I use to, I use spotify now, and since the pandora stations don't play who you want half the time It played Carr on one of my comedian stations and his stuff was really funny, Like the first time I heard him he had me in tears. So I looked him up on youtube and his stuff was even better when you actually watch him, the way he handles hecklers and the raunchy jokes he tells are just brilliant, some of his stuff I don't understand since I don't live over in England but most of his jokes I get which is nice, now I own 3 of his dvds, I can only watch them on my computer since I don't have a dvd player that plays all region dvds, planning on getting a player that can here soon.
That is very cool Adam. Jimmy is a joke nerd if there is such a thing. He has written a book on jokes and is really into stuff like the first recorded jokes and shortest jokes, he has a four word one which i can't remember atm. He has also freely admitted he isn't as quick witted as alot of other comedians, but he understands the structure of jokes alot better so he is usually ready with an altered joke along the same lines as a response to the most common jokes, it is why he is so good at dealing with hecklers. Very little is on the spot with Jimmy which is why other comedians joke with him that he is robotic. which he usually anticipates and robotically has a response for :D. His laugh is also part of his routine particularly on panel shows when he is expected to laugh at other peoples jokes, if you watch his early appearances he has a normal laugh.
Despite all this i know for a fact Sean Lock genuinely cracks him up, some of the best moments in 8 Out Of 10 Cats is Jimmys reactions to Sean. One of my favourite ever 8 Out Of 10 Cats moments is in does countdown when Jimmy has to compose himself after Sean said to Miles as a reward i wont spit on you after we have sex tonight

Yep, they're awful too, but that's probably why I don't watch their comedies either. :D And I'm including Scousers. :p TBF, there are nice examples of all those accents. None spring to mind, but I know there are.
Seriously though you should check a few more episodes out, i actually think you would like it if you gave it a decent shot, like the way you said you came to like The Big Bang Theory after a while, except it would only take 3 or 4 episodes with Still Game imo. As you can see Christine really likes it and all of the episodes are on Youtube. Try episodes 2-4, for me please?
OK, I'll give it a go. :)

I actually started watching "Columbo" reruns when I was in high school, I think. It was one of those shows that I never gave a thought to one way or the other. Then one night there was nothing much on and I decided to watch this. After that, I really got into it. And he is one of my all-time favorite characters, too.
27.Frasier
This is much higher on my list (but I completely understand your reason for it not being so). Niles Crane is the entire show for me. I like, pretty much, everyone on there, but he is just the best. He is not only an overall favorite TV character, but he is the #1 choice as far as TV character crushes go. :D Yes, I did just say "TV character crushes". I am that pathetic. :p
26.Batman The Animated Show
I used to have to watch this with my nephew everyday when I had to babysit him in the afternoon. And it was something that I never really gave a thought to (mainly because of the time of day it was on), but then I very unexpectedly got so into the show to where I was watching it even if my nephew wasn't around. :)

Columbo is probably one of my 20 favourite characters in all of Television, i love how witty, cunning and perceptive he is despite how dopey he usually act. Great premise too, it is a very nice touch to give the viewer the answers right away then watch how he figures it all out.
Favourite Character - Mrs.Columbo (Nah seriously who do you think it is)
27.Frasier
It took you until #28 and #27, but you finally picked a couple of TV shows that I love.
"Columbo" is one of my all-time favorite TV shows. He's such a terrific character, and I love the way they show you the killer at the beginning, and we get to watch Columbo basically pester the killer, and get the killer to incriminate himself. I have all the seasons on DVD, and I still watch it several times a week whenever it's on one of the cable channels, (I think it's on METV).
"Frasier" is one of those shows that I didn't watch when it originally aired, (despite how much I loved "Cheers"), but I picked it up in reruns, and I still watch it every night on (I think) The Hallmark Channel. And I agree with you that Niles is the best character on the show.
Told you there was a few upcoming shows that i knew you liked ;)

25.Only Fools and Horses
http://i63.tinypic.com/2ijnnz5.jpg
It was kinda hard to place this or say that much about it since i haven't seen it in so long, all i know is that i truly adored this show at one point. Used to watch it on UK Gold daily, i remember some of the shows on that channel like Birds of a Feather and Men Behaving Badly being pretty dire but this an upcoming show and Porridge (which easily could have found a place if i'd seen it recently) made it worthwhile. Such a great bunch of characters the writers did an excellent job if these types of characters weren't handled the way they were they could have easily became unlikable. Derek was of course the star of the show but i loved the rest just as much and always had a soft spot for Uncle Albert. Only Fools and Horses also features the moment i think i laughed the hardest at as a kid in the infamous chandelier scene.
Favourite Character - Delboy
Favourite Episode- Not seen the show in years but the first one that comes to mind is always the batman and robin one
24.King of the Hill
http://i67.tinypic.com/2cegis5.jpg
I only started watching this properly at the start of this year and haven't finished it yet. Over the years i probably watched 20 episodes, i think this is a hidden gem since noone i know at least regularly watched it most thinking of it as a second rate Simpsons. Out of all the Animated shows i've watched this comes across the most as a straightforward sitcom, of course it has plenty of wacky moments but more often than not it deals with everyday issues in a realistic and hilarious way. Overall my favourite character is Hank but lifelesss, deadpan Bobby of the first two seasons runs him close, Dale gets a tad repetitive or he would be a contender. Like most longrunning shows this sadly has a steep decline after season 5 most of the elements that made it great are still there except the turn for the worse in the characters, Bobby becomes whiny, Peggy obnoxious and Hank becomes the boring voice of reason. Still when it is on form it is realy great.

I know a few people that watched and loved King of the Hill, but some of those people have seen it because of me. As far as animated sitcoms go, I've always thought that King of the Hill has the most heart. All of the characters feel like real people that I know or could have known from my home state. It's always funny, but it never sacrifices itself to make a lame pop culture joke like Family Guy or what The Simpsons has evolved into. It's my favorite animated show of all-time.

As much as i love King of the Hill and as you see i have it higher i have to disagree that it has more heart than The Simpsons. The Simpsons at its peak is still pretty untouchable in terms of emotion for me at least, the first 8-10 seasons were a constant barrage of Humour, GREAT Satire and emotion.
Episodes like Lisas Substitute, The Way We Was, Lisas First Word, Mother Simpson, And Maggie Makes Three, Marge Be Not Proud, etc, are perfect for me at least. It also had an unbelievable knack of turning a pure comedy episode into something more like Duffless or Lisas Wedding.
23.Curb Your Enthusiasm
http://i67.tinypic.com/1584g45.jpg
I think the title of this is apt since i have no idea how to explain why i like this so much, not even to fellow fans or fans of Seinfeld that haven't checked it out yet. Rather than ramble like i usually do i'll just say everyone should check this out.
22.The Good Wife
http://i66.tinypic.com/1j0op3.jpg
I must admit i actively avoided this at first probably because of its title probably, i'm sure it was because of unintentional sexism (never as satisfying as intentional sexism :p) but i'm glad i tried it. It is a straightforward, mostly unoriginal law drama, what it has that others don't is for me at least the best group of recurring characters. As much as i enjoy the regulars i usually look forward to the brilliant yet clearly mentally ill redhead lawyer (my favourite), Michael J Fox, Colin Sweeney, etc.
21.The Twilight Zone
http://i67.tinypic.com/2n7mu8h.jpg
The original of course. Yeah there isn't much to say here without ruining plots, all i'll say is that it is baffling how much of Horror, Sci-Fi and Comedy even has influenced by this. A few favourites of mine are Twenty Two, The Monsters are Due on Maple Strreet and Living Doll.

You are right that at the peak of The Simpsons, it was untouchable. I think if we look at both shows as a whole though, King of the Hill maintained it's "heart" all the way through. The Simpsons we watch now still look like The Simpsons we watched in the 90s, but it doesn't feel like The Simpsons we felt in the 90s. I don't think King of the Hill ever lost that.

I really enjoyed the first two seasons of The Good Wife. Sadly channel 4 moved it to More 4 and I didn't know, so by the time I saw that it was still being shown it was the end of season 3 or start of season 4. If I am honest... I can't say that I never noticed a decline in quality, but it could just be rose-colored glasses. At a certain point I was so deeply in love with the characters that I just wanted to be around them.
I will say that the character that was the most hit-and-miss for me was Peggy.

Nah mate ask Swan i wear the same rose-coloured glasses when it comes to South Park. Makes everything look so rosey :D
I agree about Peggy when she was on form she was brilliant but when not she was very unlikable and it often soured the episode for me at least. Saying that, The Rise and Fall of Peggy is a strong contender for my favourite episode.

Truthfully i don't think this is a high quality show. It can be incredibly cheesy with cringey dialogue, Harlan County has a death toll closer to Helmand Provine than anywhere else in the US, it has every action/crime cliche known to man, etc. Despite all of this i have a great time watching this which is all that matters. The characters are where the strength of this show lies, while i love Raylan it is Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder that makes this for me. From the outside he looks like a typical redneck, but he is very intelligent and calculated, also hilarious. The show also has great group of villains other than Boyd, from the Crowe, extended Crowder and Bennet families to the sadistic gay gangster sent from Detroit. None of the storylines are that original or groundbreakin but they are usually entertaining, they actually managed to make a good season out of the tired D.B cooper type story. My only big dissapointment was the last season i found it pretty underwhelming with possibly the worst finale of any show i love.
Favourite Character - Boyd Crowder
19.Friends
http://i68.tinypic.com/f043rc.png
This was another one i found hard to place on one hand it is one of the most fun, easiest shows to watch on the other on rewatch i really don't like the last three seasons much at all. It also has probably the worst character butchering imo in Joey, he went from a lovable dumb guy but realistically so and mostly in a naive way, to pretty much braindead as the show went along. Still the show was great for a good while and Chandler Bing is my hero top three character for me along with two who will appear much higher. He was so hilarious, awkward and likable, i also loved how unlucky he was and that he was seen as the least liked of the group (sometimes switching with Ross), one of the hardest i ever laughed at the show was the moment he had to watch the one woman play alone, i think it was the fact that everyone forgot about him that hit me so hard. Monica and Phoebe are also among my favourite female characters actually the only one i never liked much was Rachel.
Favourite Episode - Plenty of contenders here one that always comes to mind is when Chandlers new roommate goes crazy, that whole arc is great actually.

I watched an episode of Cheers with Michael Richards in it today, he isn't in it much basically he made a bet with Sam years before while he was still drinking that he would marry Jacquiline (sp?) 18.Sons of Anarchy
http://i68.tinypic.com/6jedrd.jpg
Sons of Anarchy is alot like Justified in that i wouldn't even attempt to defend it as a great show. It also has plenty of cheesiness, crime/action cliches and an even more ridiculous violent crime rate. Just the same as Justified i personally had a great time watching it. I liked just about every character with Jax, Tig, Gemma, Clay and Unser being the standouts, it also featured one of the villains i hated the most in season 2's Zobelle, what is odd is that i think alot of my hatred for him ontop of the horrible stuff he did came from how powerless he made the gang seem, which shows how great Samcro was written. Other than the 3rd Season which outside of a few episodes i don't like at all, and the last which even for Sons of Anarchy i felt got a bit too messy, it was a very consistent show and most importantly i really liked the finale which is a rarity for me.
Favourite Character - Jax: Tig comes close but i feel outside of the second season he was used purely for comic relief too often.
17.Twin Peaks
http://i66.tinypic.com/33b06r7.jpg
Thinking about it now it feels a bit weird that i was such a big fan of Twin Peaks before i even knew who David Lynch was, obviously it makes sense since i'm now a big fan of his but i always thought his movies looked awful and it was only when i found out he made Twin Peaks that i gave it a shot. My oldest sister turned me onto it when she was a teenager she watched and loved it, me and her tastes are pretty similar so i checked it out and man it was not close to anything i'd ever seen before but i loved it. I always think of it as a soap opera which i usually despise but the blend of humour, emotion and surrealism really makes it work, the mystery element is also a big plus but even thoug everything is related to Lauras death it always felt secondary. Like alot of people i felt the 2nd season failed to live up to the 1st but after a rewatch last year i liked it alot more which is the main reason it found a place in my top 20.

Two good choices there, Camo. I saw the first 3 (or maybe 4) seasons of SoA, but it's another one which was moved around to different channels and I missed it. I've never gotten back into it but I'd like to at some point.
Twin Peaks is a soap opera and that's when it's at its best, IMO. That's why I like the first season more than the second and why, once the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer is done, so am I.

I remember you saying you stopped after or during the third because i remember saying (and still stick by after the show has finished) to you that the third is easily the worst. Honestly if i didn't start watching shortly before the sixth started on Netflix with the first five already available then i doubt i would have continued. Season 4-6 are about the same as the first two quality-wise imo so you should check them out, the last season overall is okay but it tries to involve all of the other gangs too much so it ends up very chaotic, but again i really liked the finale which almost never happens.
16.Fawlty Towers
http://i65.tinypic.com/2yotow1.jpg
Fawlty Towers is quite possibly the funniest show i've ever seen, UK Gold was always one of my favourite channels as a kid, Only Fools and Horses and Porridge played a big part in that but catching an episode of imo the most rewatchable show ever was the main reason. John Cleese is fantastic as the stubborn, black and white owner of the hotel, i really love Cybil, Polly and Manuel too but i think it shows how great Basil is that just about any funny scene in the show directly involves him. The only reason it isn't higher is because of how appalingly short it is :(.

I'm at the start of a rewatch of this so i'd take whatever i say with a grain of salt but after half of season 1 i think i actually like it more now, which means it has a good chance of finding a place in my top 10. One thing i've always found curious is that i always end up favouring Mulder, that is odd because i heavily relate to Scully i'm a Skeptic myself who has found myself surrounded by believers, i also think Gillians performance is better (not that either are great, acting is the last thing i would praise about the show) who knows? Maybe it is the want to believe person inside of me that makes Mulder so enticing.

I haven't watched "The X-Files" since it originally aired, but I remember being fascinated with the show, and making sure to never miss an episode. Some of the episodes were a bit too graphic for me, but it never made them any less interesting.

I thought the first two seasons of The X-Files were really good. The end of season 2 was fantastic and I can't even remember what happened. Just how I reacted. Season 3 was good, but I only made it an episode or two into season 4 and never saw another.
Fawlty Towers is kind of in my DNA, though I'm not really much of a fan. I can watch it at any time, but it's never been something I've loved. It is slapstick and farce, after all.

I can understand you stopping at that point, the show definitely gets weaker around Season 5 but i still love it. The second episode of Season 4 is Home :D.
Yeah, from your posts i could understand you not liking Fawlty Towers much. I think it shows how good of a show it is that you can watch it anytime despite not being into that kind of show.

 to both "King of the Hill" and "Fawlty Towers". Both shows would possibly be in my top 100. "Fawlty Towers" definitely would be.
I never really understood why more people didn't watch (or appreciate) "King of the Hill". I loved it.
16.Fawlty Towers
The only reason it isn't higher is because of how appalingly short it is :(.
"Appalingly". That is a good word for it. I hate how short it is because I think it is one of the funniest shows ever. And it is one of the few that I think I could actually laugh at every time that I see it. John Cleese is just too great for words as Basil. But the whole rest of the cast is so good, too. This is another one that I wish more people would watch - at least once in their lives.

Love Fawlty Towers, it's a gem. I've not seen X-Files since it was first aired in the UK back In '94 (I think it was that year) . I used to let my son stay up to watch it, we loved it :)

Absolutely. I think it's as good as example of farce as you're going to see anywhere.

I think King of the Hills problem (with audiences) was that watching other Animated Adult shows they expected at least The Simpsons a family sitcom but still rife with plenty of wacky, impossible moments, or South Park a completely, impossible and ridiculous (yet so awesome) show, seeing at least in it's first four seasons a very subtle and dry for the most part , Animated Sitcom didn't work for some. Also i feel the magic and the detriment of the show are the characters, i personally had to get a good feel for the Hill family before i found the show hilarious, watching a random episode unless it is a dale or cotton heavy episode i could see it being a bit underwhelming.

You'll love all three Cricket ;)
HK, as great as it is the X-Files episode "Home" isn't going to bring you much that you haven't seen before. I think that is a problem for shows like The X-Files and The Twilight Zone, both are exploring, often explored scenarios so despite the quality and regardless if it was the original depiction or not each individual has seen and will compare whatever they've seen of that type of story with the first one you've seen having an advantage. Talking purely from my own experiences here.
You should watch Home though !

My main problem with The X-Files was that Scully didn't believe despite being convinced most weeks. It was like 50 First X-Files. :D Frankly, if she wasn't so attractive, she'd have pissed me right off. :D
:D I know exactly what you mean, it gets ridiculous after the second time it happens and it goes on for the majority of the show.Scully actually becomes a believer for the last two or three seasons after seeing something pretty much on par with the other 4000 things shes seen over the years. :D

This was originally going to be a bit higher, but having only watched it once three years ago i dropped it a bit in favour of a few that are fresher in my mind. For me this is easily the best show to ever be cancelled, it really annoys me as i thought the show got better as it went along and i doubt they would have kept it going anymore than 5 seasons, it got 3. Like everyone i think, Ian McShane as Al Swearengen was the show for me he is among my favourite characters in television and i feel McShane gave one of the finest ever performances. All of the cast were fantastic though, Calamity Janes depiction was excellent and Olyphant did well as the other lead, Olyphant was clearly born to play a Wild West figure despite him being quite a bit like Raylan in Justified (Raylan is alot more laid back) i've never found either show off putting because of the other. The writing in the show is up there with the best, one thing i think they done extremely well is tension and uncertainty, in Season 1 knowing what happened to Bill in real life i still felt everything the writers were trying to do, for someone not familiar with the real life stories the show could work alot more.
Favourite Character - Al Swearengen
13.QI (Quite Interesting)
http://i66.tinypic.com/kcxrvd.jpg
This is just the most fun and easy show to watch. I beg anyone who hasn't heard of/tried this, to got to Youtube and watch any episode of this preferrably XL (extended) chances are you'll become a fan. It is a British Panel sho hosted by my hero Stephen Fry with comedian and actor Alan Davies as the only regular, the other three are usually picked from a rotating group of comedians and a kind of special guest who will only appear once. Quite simply Fry asks a question that could be about any topic you can think of there is a klaxon already set up with either obvious and wrong answers or obvious jokes that you lose points for if set off. Other than that its just discussing interesting not often discussed topics peppered with amazing humour and charm. I also think it is the one panel show everyone has a genuinely good time on which gives it such a great atmosphere.

QI is, of course, brilliant. Sometimes it comes over as a little too self satisfied, but it really depends on the panel and those episodes are few and far between. Some of the little experiments they've do at the end are fantastic, too.
Deadwood is a Western with Lovejoy in it so, naturally, I've never seen an episode.

I actually meant to say the feel of the show often depends on the panel. One comedian i've never found funny at all is Phil Jupitus and on QI in particular his appearances are pretty tough to watch, he always tries too hard and constantly resorts to this exaggerated impression of Stephen that is not funny in the slightest. There was an episode with him and two non comedians that i was tempted to skip and i was right to want to, being the only comedian he tried to joke constantly and Frysconstant fake laughs made the whole thing very uncomfortable.

I've never minded Phil Jupitus, though I usually agree with what those who don't like him say about him, it's just that it doesn't bother me. The main reason I like him on QI is that Stephen fancies/fancied him. A lot. Which Phil often made play of and embarrassed him quite easily. Which made Stephen go all silly and shy, which in turn, makes me laugh.
Usually it depends on my mood as to who I dread seeing on there. However, Jo Brand and Bill Bailey are often near the top of that list. I don't mind either of them, but they've been on so many times and I think to myself "if I have to listen to their schtick one more time I'm going to explode" Some of Sean Lock's earlier appearances aren't too good, either. I feel he doesn't quite have the level right. That one where he starts 'digging' under the desk is painful. On the other hand I'd make Jimmy Carr a regular. I never tire of his stuff.
Alan heavy episodes can try my patience, too.

Thing is Phil plays that as his only piece of comedy on the show, it usually just results in Frys brilliant "Moving on" or a weird fake laugh that Phil himself looks awkward after.
Jo Brand isn't a comedienne, i don't care if she is supposed to be or not. I love Bill Bailey especially on QI, but that is mostly because he is clearly close friends with Alan, and he is quite a knowledgeable guy making him interesting regardless of how many of his jokes hit.
Sean Lock at anytime in anything is perfect to me but iget and don't disagree with you there.

10-10-15, 07:32 PM
Oddly, and I have no reason to think he's gotten worse it must be me, I think Sean Lock was a better stand up 10-15 years ago. I used to love his stand up, whereas I just don't really feel it anymore. That's not to say he's not funny. He's hysterically funny, but only on panel shows now. Maybe the edit or the ability to pick and choose his material rather than have to make a show works better for me now? I always feel slightly disappointed after a Sean Lock dvd now, which is a real shame because, as I said, he's really funny.
Bill Bailey's another one who I loved long ago. I still like him, I still think he's funny, but I do get that Russell Howard feeling from him sometimes. You just know he's going to make a funny noise, say "weasel" or something then add something surreal. It feels like he's got a bucketful of them ready ala heckler putdowns. Maybe it's like the Bill Bailey version of Anthony Hopkins performances after SotL. "Well, this is all they want so that's all I'll bother with"
You ever been to see Bill or Sean live? Not that it will change anything for you, i'm just curious?
I've seen and loved both.

Well, much time has passed, the world needs your top ten.
Just so i've actually posted something here for the first time in ages. I'm going to throw together a top 50 characters list. I'll post them 10 at a time. I am only using characters from shows that made the list, Coach from Cheers would probably make it for example if i was going for any characters.

Columbo is probably one of my 20 favourite characters in all of Television, i love how witty, cunning and perceptive he is despite how dopey he usually act. Great premise too, it is a very nice touch to give the viewer the answers right away then watch how he figures it all out.
Favourite Character - Mrs.Columbo (Nah seriously who do you think it is)
27.Frasier
26.Batman The Animated Show
The peak of my childhood viewing right here. Well tied with Dragonball Z but the difference is i can and do still watch this. As much as i love The Dark Knight, Batman Begins and the 89 Batman this for me is the best adaptation. And Kevin Conroy is Batman!
This rep is for Frasier...one of the best written sitcoms ever.

Even though I am a little disappointed at Michael Scott and Basil Fawlty being so low, that disappointment isn't as big as the disappointment of Niles Crane only being placed at #18. He'd be #1 for me. But, as I have said multiple times in different lists on this site, this is your list and not mine. :)
And by the way, I have decided to finally watch "Deadwood". I just want to get through majority of the movies that I have to watch for the 2 HoF's that I am in so that I don't fall too behind on those.
Glad to hear you are checking out Deadwood Vamp, hope you like it

Tony is my boob fix, Joan is there because she is amazing. Who would the three be? Tony, Don and Walt or Tony, Don and Chandler?
My five would be Tony, Don, Walt, Scott, and Vic. Top ten would be tough but Kramer and George would both get in.
12.Breaking Bad
http://i65.tinypic.com/2j8gfq.png
First of all i would say that this would be a bit lower now not much i think it would drop to 15, with 11.The Shield 12.QI 13.Deadwood and 14 a show that never made it because i hadn't seen it which i will mention in my next post about the shows that would have made it now before the top ten. The reason for its drop is because around christmas i tried to rewatch it for the first time and sadly i got a bit bored and dropped it at the start of Season 3, i'm planning on getting to it again hopefully i just wasn't in the right mood. Whether that's the case or not though that first watch was so amazing.
I was a late starter to the show. One type of show i can't stomach no matter how good are medical shows they just depress me and turn my stomach. Now i am not dumb enough to believe Breaking Bad is a medical show but Walt does have cancer which is pretty much the worst thing in the world and something i really don't like to think about so despite everyone telling me to get on it it took me a very long time to finally give it a chance. Thankfully his cancer is just his motivation to break bad as the title says and it eventually rarely comes up. And i'm so glad i got a round to it because it is an amazing show, i started binge watching it while the last episodes were airing and i'm pretty sure i drove my friends nuts constantly bringing up things that they had watched and talked about years before :D.
I don't think i truly realized how many amazing characters the show had until Better Call Saul started, i really, really love Saul but i realized that i prefer Walt, Jesse, Tuco, Mike, Gus and Hank to him which is pretty unbelievable. Like most i really didn't like Walts family outside of Hank, Anna Gunn was fantastic but Skyler just pissed me off even though i can't blame her for doing half of the stuff she did, Marie and Walt Jr were just extremely annoying. At times it could get a bit outlandish like Walts confrontation with Tuco, Gus's final scene and the coordinated prison killings, in hindsight it was also a little cheesy at times but at one point i really did become one of those OMG SO ORSUM!!!!11! fanboys. I think i'll leave it there because outside of Game of Thrones maybe it is pretty much the most discussed show of the last ten years at least and i don't think i can add much.

I have had a weird history with this show. As a kid my dad used to always watch it and i thought it looked like the dumbest show ever, as you can see by my characters list i really love him but i must say without giving it a chance Michael Chiklis isn't exactly the most inviting leading man. So years later i started watching Sons of Anarchy created by one of the top writers of The Shiel; Kurt Sutter so surely this was how i started wathing it right? Wrong, i actually gave it a shot because i was reading a lot about the Tupac and Biggie murders at one point and from there started to read about the Rampart Division of the LAPD and how they were the inspiration for The Shield, and i'm very glad i did give it a chance.
The Shield has possibly the best pilot of any show, not to spoil anything all i'll say is it is pretty difficult not to continue after that ending. One of the things i like most about the show is the gritty, seedy feeling it gives, i could see people maybe being a bit turned off by the camera angles and cinematography, but personally i love it goes so well with what you are actually watching a bunch of corrupt officers. Speaking of the corruption and just straight up crimes they commit i feel the show did as good of a job as possible to make you like these frankly awful people, for instance i can't imagine anyone not sympathizing with Vic during his problems with his family particularly his autistic son, or with Lem and Shane during multiple parts of the show. I don't think that is an easy thing to pull off which i think is a testament to the writers, they did an incredible job of showing the two sides to a criminals life.
In TV more than film characters are the most important thing for me, obviously they are incredibly important in movies for me as well but you are spending a lot more time with these characters and i'd say The Shield is right up there with the best of them character wise. Vic and Shane made my top fifty, but Lem and his trusty shotgun,Claudette and Dutch weren't far off. I decided to not include short lived characters but if i had it would have been tough not including Forrest Whitaker or Glenn Close for their amazing one season turns. Overall it is just such an expertly written, immersive show. I would suggest that any fans of Sons of Anarchy or The Wire if they haven't should check it out, both are clearly very different shows but i see enough similarities that i would be surprised if a fan of one didn't like the other.
My five would be Tony, Don, Walt, Scott, and Vic. Top ten would be tough but Kramer and George would both get in.
Great top five, i think we have very similar taste in tv shows . The Seinfeld characters were the hardest to place George is my clear favourite but i have my ups and downs with the other three, i think Elaine would actually be my second favourite though. Also shout out to Uncle Leo

Dude, Glen Close and season 4 of The Shield. Probably nothing better on TV ever than that.
Have you tried rewatching other dramas? I have ran into the same problem as you with Breaking Bad, Sopranos, and Mad Men. I don't get bored, but I know the character beats and the seasons are long. I'll watch a season and then drop it usually.

The episode where Jerry turns Leo in for shoplifting. Jerry says hello and Leo gives him this solemn hello. I'm laughing thinking about it.

You can't rewatch The Sopranos? Something is clearly wrong with you :p. Just kidding, The Sopranos is easily my most watched show at least minutes wise, i regularly find myself putting on a random season and episode by this point i've seen it so much it doesn't matter i can watch it just like Friends or Seinfeld. When i got American Netflix i binge watched Mad Men again before finally watching Season 7 Part 2, really need to get the dvds man love that show. So no not really, Breaking Bad is the only one that comes to mind but i haven't tried to rewatch most of the shows on this list so i doubt it will be the only one.
Dramas are so different than sitcoms for me for some reason. Maybe it is just the time commitment because I still enjoy it. I can't throw on random episodes of them either. That's my OCD.
