View Full Version : Camos Top 50 TV Shows
Dramas are so different than sitcoms for me for some reason. Maybe it is just the time commitment because I still enjoy it. I can't throw on random episodes of them either. That's my OCD.
I am the same with everything except The Sopranos.
A few shows that woud've at least been considered for this list.
Nathan For You
http://i64.tinypic.com/2duxj85.jpg
This was the #14 show i mentioned before. Quite simply one of the funniest shows i've ever seen. I rambled about it here if anyone is interested - http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1456974#post1456974
Cheers
http://i68.tinypic.com/30jl5cm.jpg
I think this would have found a place somewhere but it is a difficult one. I binge watched the first five seasons in the second half of last years but i got a bit burnt out, not the fault of the show 11 Seasons just isn't easy. Will return to it at some point.
Hajime No Ippo
http://i68.tinypic.com/300r1iq.jpg
This would have found a place somewhere not sure where exactly though. It has been my show of the moment as my avatar probably gives away. I flew through the 75 episode first Season, and i'm looking forward to the 25 episodes Hajime No Ippo Rising and Hajime No Ippo New Challenger. It has now replaced Death Note as my favourite anime, i hope a few will check this out.
I also think Master of None, One Punch Man and Mr Robot deserve a mention. With only one season each i'm not confident of them keeping up their quality especially Mr Robot which i can see either becoming awful or being one of my very favourite shows.

How could the Seinfeld characters be the hardest to place? Surely there's a bin near you. :p

I like Cheers, but I always feel cheated if I catch an episode with Diane instead of Rebecca. :D

Don't start. Seinfeld hasn't even shown up yet. With how much you hate it i think i may have a new #1 :D
I like Cheers, but I always feel cheated if I catch an episode with Diane instead of Rebecca. :D
I liked Diane, she could get a bit annoying and the constant focus on her and Sams bickering was boring at times though. I stopped right before Rebecca joined the show will pick it up again at some point, i must say i have never like Kirsty Alley in anything.
Who cares about Diane and Rebecca though i'm still broken hearted that Coach only made two seasons :(
I don't watch as much TV Shows as I did some time ago, but dude, I never met anyone with such similar tastes to mine in TV Shows.
Dragon Ball Z
House of Cards (US)
How I Met Your Mother
The West Wing
Archer
Futurama
Death Note
The Simpsons
Friends
These are HUGE favourites of mine, and definitely part of my Top 25.
Lie To Me
Married With Children
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Frasier
King of The Hill
The Twilight Zone
These, I never watched completely but I watched some episodes quite often on TV and liked a lot!
From the other ones, I only watch the 1st season of Breaking Bad, didn't like it much so gave up, but I've been thinking of giving it another shot anytime soon!
Waiting to see Community here also.
Do you like any lawyers TV Show?
Thanks a lot for the rep man you really barraged my notifications there haha . Really glad you liked so many shows. I would say give Breaking Bad another go if you get the chance, the first season is only seven episodes long and in my opinion it is the weakest.
I think the only lawyer show to make it was The Good Wife, i also really liked the first season of Suits but haven't returned to it so it didn't make it. Other than those i don't think i have really watched any lawyer shows other than the odd episode of Law and Order SVU. Which ones were you thinking of?
I keep forgetting this thread even exists, haven't updated it in months. Going to try and finish it in the next week or so, anyway here is 10 and 9:
10.Lost
http://s32.postimg.org/6vb63zxzp/lost.jpg (http://postimage.org/)
Lost is a very important show for me, it was the first show i truly started to discuss with people. I actually was a late comer to the show, my sister bought me the first two season boxsets for my birthday and i was instantly hooked. I'm in total agreement with anyone who says it was inconsistent and all over the place, or in the end it was all pretty pointless but i just don't care it was just too fun to watch, think about and discuss.Truthfully i don't think i've ever discussed a show as much as Lost, everyone i knew had their own nuts and ultimately wrong theories. I'm certainly not in approval of the make it up as you go along approach the writers took to the show, but in the end i think it worked most of the time.
Season 1 is the pinnacle of the show for me, i think it easily got the most things right and was the only season where i didn't seriously dislike an important part of it. The Season was the only one with good pacing imo, it was funny and most of all i felt it was the most emotionally powerful. Locke's first flashback, the scene where he stands up with that cheesy song on after the crash is my pick for the most powerful in the show, plenty of others too like when Ethan nearly killed Charlie. I like all of the other seasons but there are stretches of episodes that i dislike, still rewatching some of them has made me appreciate them at least a bit more.
Anyway amazing show, not perfect in any way but one of the most fun and intriguing i've watched.
9.Dexter
http://s32.postimg.org/5hh8jtm1h/dex.jpg (http://postimage.org/)
Yet another heavily flawed show, one that you can argue half of its seasons are bad. Personally i don't agree but it is hard to argue with that considering how much it fell in the second half. For me Seasons 1-4 were perfect with the first being the best. Dexter in Season 1 was my favourite, i thought he was most interesting and funniest then since he was at his most clueless and callous. It also features my favourite villain, while it was obvious who the ice truck killer was practically from the moment he appeared i still legitimately loved him as Brian. Seasons 2 and 4 are a close second, think i'd give the edge to two though. While i really love Trinity i think 2 had the better sidestories and side characters, i love Lila and Lundy. I also think Dexter trying to change was his most interesting Season development arc. Plus 4 had that awful Quinn and Christine story. Season 3 is my least favourite of those, i quite like Jimmy Smitts but at times he was pretty bad as Prado since he was such a major part of the season he brought some parts a bit, The Skinner wasn't the best main case story either but some great stuff came out of that. Again the most interesting thing for me was Dexters Season development, the idea of Dexter having a friend he could trust with everything and how he slowly trusts him more and more was well done.
Now i agree the last four were a step down i don't hate them as much as everyone. I completely love Season 7, it is flawed as hell but i still adore it. The Deb figuring out about Dexter story wasn't handled the best but it doesn't bother me as much as everyone else, the only thing that i didn't like about it was Deb being in love with Dexter. The best thing about that season was easily Isaak, one of my favourite villains wish he had stuck around a bit longer. Season 5 i like as well, the only thing i truly hate is Julia Stiles she was all kinds of horrible one of the very worst performances of the show. I liked the main story outside of her and even though i love Season 7 i think the Season 5 finale is where the show should have finished. It was much better than what happened, ending at Harrisons 1st birthday with all loose ends tied up, the rest left ambigious as to whether Dexter will get caught, if Deb will ever find out, etc. Now Season 6 is pretty bad but i still enjoy some stuff about it, the main story was incredibly obvious and horribly handled but i thought Edward James Olmos as Gideon was fantastic. The biggest surprise for me was Mos Def as Brother Sam, he was great and i thought that story was honestly excellent, i think it gets overlooked a bit because it was in a horrible Season. The only one i don't try to defend at all is the last one, complete piece of crap. Outside of Jennifer Carpenters performance i hated everything, completely ruining Dexter and Harrys characters and stories with the code's true origin, worst villain ever, that ending . Ugh, awful.
Anyway i know i've mostly talked about the Seasons but i thought that would be best since it is usually described as half great half awful, something i don't fully agree with.

Both would be in my top 50 shows.
"Lost is a very important show for me, it was the first show i truly started to discuss with people."
Completely the same with me. I remember my parents used to watch the first season actually, and I remember the last episode with the hatch and the raft, and was completely hooked from then on. They actually stopped watching it after that, but I became obsessed. The first show I properly loved and had a fascination over. Spent so much time on the internet trying to find things out, view theories and so on.
Dexter was really good fun. Watched seasons 1 to 5 I think on my own then rewatched them with my brother and carried on from then in real time. 1,2 and 4 are fantastic seasons. Watched it again recently and don't think some of the acting is as high quality as other shows, but the concept and storylines can be great. Everything after season 4 is poor in my opinion with it getting darker, more depressing, Dexter trying to change, introducing that stupid girlfriend character at the end, that Vogel character or whatever she was called, it got awful. Even those church killers didn't make any sense really, there was so much lazy writing and weak characters. Ice truck killer, Doakes and Trinity make their respective seasons great. The last season and episode especially were woeful, truly I was really sad after I watched that, knowing that's how the show would end.
Watched it again recently and don't think some of the acting is as high quality as other shows,
I completely agree with this, even at its best some of the acting was subpar. The only main actor i think was mostly great throughout was Jennifer Carpenter. Michael C Hall was fantastic at times but he wasn't consistent. The only guest performances i think were standout was Lithgow and Edward James Olmos. Still i think some of the subpar acting gave it a meta and campy feel, whether it was intended or not i think it worked.
Everything after season 4 is poor in my opinion with it getting darker, more depressing, Dexter trying to change,
I already explained what i think of Seasons 5-8, but the Dexter trying to change part was there throughout the show, it was usually handled better but it was always there. Each Season had a character development arc for Dexter, not all dealt with him changing though. Season 1 was him finding out who he actually is, 2 was him finding out if he could change/ stop needing to kill, 3 was him finding out if he could ever trust anyone with the truth about him (Prada), and 4 was him trying to figure out how to juggle family life with being a killer.
The changes to Dexter and him trying to change started back in Season 2 with him learning how much Deb means to him, if you remember one of the first things he says in the pilot is that Deb is the one person he would love if he could. So by the end of that Season he has begun to understand his emotions. That continues through each season with Rita and her kids, Harrison, etc. As well as real friendships with Angel and Misuka.
I'm not actually sure how much he tried to change in the last four seasons, Dexters development was one of the things missing the most from them IMO. I mean Season 5 is really just an extension of 4 with the only difference being he has to juggle being a single dad with being a killer. Season 6 is about him getting in touch with his spirituality, he really doesn't try to change there. And Season 7 the only reason he does is because of the threat of Deb giving him up, in the end he didn't and he tried his hardest not to change throughout even going as far as to drug Deb. Season 8 is horrendous i don't even count that.
introducing that stupid girlfriend character at the end, that Vogel character or whatever she was called,
Yup, she was horrendous. Still think Lumen was much worse though.
there was so much lazy writing and weak characters.
Agreed, as i explained i think there was some redeeming things about Season 5 and 6 even though they weren't great and i really do love Season 7 even though it has plenty of problems.
Ice truck killer, Doakes and Trinity make their respective seasons great. The last season and episode especially were woeful, truly I was really sad after I watched that, knowing that's how the show would end.
Agreed with all of this. Season 8 was so bad, its the only Season i can't find anything positive to say about. As i said i think it should have ended with the Season 5 finale, it wasn't a great season but it obviously couldn't have ended with the Season 4 finale and i think it would have been as good of an ending as we could hope for; for the reasons i mentioned.
Been watching Brooklyn Nine Nine again btw, might post about it in the TV Tab.

To be fair, I can't remember much of season 7 to really comment on that one. What I didn't like about the Lumen storyline and also the Hanks/Olmos one, is that his intentions and handling of the situations seemed really off compared to what we had come to learn about Dexter, obviously his character was going through change and had to deal with hard things, but I think they tried to show it in the wrong way, it was really frustrating I thought. Haven't seen it in a while though. I think John Lithgow gives the best performance too, and really enjoyed Keith Carradine.
Yeah, I finished Brooklyn Nine-Nine the other night. Watched all of Master of None too, I'll have to post in the TV tab soon too.
I'm not sure I consider Dexter a great show, mainly because it fell apart after awhile, but it has a special place in my heart because talking about it with my sister was a great bonding experience.
Watched all of Master of None too, I'll have to post in the TV tab soon too.
Oh man, so hope you loved this as much as me or at all. I made a post about it here - http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1460658#post1460658. I kind of ramble, but whatever i give some thoughts on it.
Season 3 of Brooklyn Nine Nine is a big step up from 2 for me, only got three episodes left i'll post about it when i'm finished.
And i agree with you on Season 6. I though Olmos was great, even though the story he was involved in wasn't handled very well at all. As well as that i honestly did really enjoy the Mos Def story. Another thing i hated was how much that all fell into place for Dexters development story, i mean Brother Sam was an unrelated person he was planning to kill but he just happens to make Dexter question his faith while the main villain that season is one related to religion. That sort of thing was handled much better in the earlier seasons like in Season 1 Dexters identity storyline makes sense because it was all being set up by Brian and in Season 2 his trying to change storyline was unrelated to the Doakes one, it would have worked with any story.
I'm not sure I consider Dexter a great show
I'm not sure i do either but i love it so it doesn't matter. It's like My Cousin Vinny, that is a top 20 film for me but i obviously don't think of it as a great achievement in cinema.
08.Seinfeld
http://s33.postimg.org/cbwh07f0v/seinf.jpg (http://postimage.org/)
If i was alive when Seinfeld was initially airing i think there is a very good chance it would have been my favourite comedy, because it really is amazing. Before watching it i watched a few clips and thought it looked terrible, Jerry's voice, how terrible Elaine (and the rest of them only really picked up on Elaine before i actually watched it though) constantly is, a neurotic bald man, a crazy weirdo? Eh, no thanks. Glad i actually gave it a shot though because it is one of the most funny and entertaining shows ever regardless of what HK says :D.
The main four are all self centred, obnoxious and just generally awful human beings, before a friend watched this he asked me if this was an exaggerated description because he couldn't imagine a show that started in the 80's having a cast as unlikable as i made out, well he now fully agrees with me. As much as i try and get everyone i can to watch this if likable characters is your bag then avoid this. This isn't a bad thing at all though, it works out in plenty of hilarious situations and it isn't in a serious way like them being racist or whatever, it is more like if you didn't have a personal filter and you constantly forgot you aren't the only person in the world. I always wonder how i would have reacted if i was about when this just aired, in most sitcoms before and after this just about every character has had their unlikable moments but the majority of the times they make good at the end to show human decency, an episode without a positive resolution would seem like a bold move for a sitcom before Seinfeld. But Seinfeld took that idea and created a nine season show around it, because of this you usually had the exact opposite reaction from other shows that when one of the main characters got their comeuppance it was actually a good thing.
In all honesty there wasn't much to this show, a Jerry standup bit to start it off,a few scenes in Jerry's apartment, a few scenes in the cafe, then a few scenes connected to the plot of the episode and that was that, the gold came from the writing though. I don't think me quoting some of Seinfeld would do much, but the show was unbelievably hilarious at times, which often came through the plot alone, a few of my very favourite episodes may have only five proper jokes throughout the episode but it just works so perfectly. I think my favourite thing me be in its simplicity, in some of my favourite episodes nothing really happens at all like in one they just stand in line at a chinese restraunt complaining, and in another they walk about a massive parking lot looking for a car, but they are just full of so many great moments.
The characters are all great, we have some amazing recurring characters like Uncle Leo and Newman, as well as the best one time characters in a show for me personally like Bookman (my personal favourite) and the doorman. Out of the main four George is my favourite, he is just such a neurotic mess, neurotic has pretty much became defined by George in some circles by this point. He has so many amazing moments, i mean who couldn't crack up at stuff like George having to watch a movie but the last copy at the video store is checked out so he tracks down the family and convinces them to let him watch it with them :D. I think Jerry may be my least favourite of the four but i still love him, he is the closest thing to a straight guy the show has even though he is still as nuts, awful and self centred to the rest of them. Kramer on rewatches has got a tad irratating for me but he may have the funniest moments in the entire show. Elaine is just amazing, second favourite after George, first time i watched the show she really annoyed me, she still does but it is now in a hilarious, surprisingly lovable way.
Anyway amazing show, give it a try if you haven't because it is fully deserving of the praise
it gets.
07.Community
http://s33.postimg.org/qkb224vdb/comm.jpg (http://postimage.org/)
I really hate how underseen this show is/was, it is one of the funniest and most entertaining shows off all time, and it was really treated shoddily by all of you awful people who didn't watch it. Being a fan of movies and/or tv shows and not liking this is a pretty baffling thing to me. The show is pretty much made up of great movie/tv show, parodies, homages, and just blatant scene for scene recreations, the character of Abed may as well just be called pop culture because that is basically what he is. It really comes across that Dan Harmon and the writers really know their media, which is one of many reasons i love this show so much. It has everthing, cheesy action movies, dumb comedies, serious gritty films, arthouse films, every type of show you could imagine, etc. And this is not even bringing up the things they were involved in more sporadically like games and music.
This was actually originally #5, but i have finally came out of denial and admitted they did go to far and lose their way a bit after Season 3, i still know i love those seasons a bit more than the vast majority of fans but they could have toned it down a bit. Meta references can work, but there is a fine line and some Community episodes went way too far, still most of these episodes were still pretty funny so it doesn't take my enjoyment of this down too much. I love every single character particularly Abed, Chang, Pierce and Shirley.
There is really no way too describe the shows humour so i'll just include the first few videos i come across on youtube because there is a 98% chance they will be hilarious, they may need context but i'll laugh anyway :D:

I watched the first episode, and it was terrible. Why did the spaceship land on the taco? That was a major plot hole, considering it's about a vegan cop.

Man, i hate you :D. I was about to go nuts about you hating the amazing pilot before realizing you were talking about the cop show, Vegan Cop and Plot Hole.
Solidarity Shield brothers. I may have to go Vic on Swan's ass if he keeps up his nonsense.
I'm not, I'm talking about The Shield. Vegan Cop and Plot Hole is a great one, that The Shield unfortunately stole from.
If the last scene in the pilot of The Shield doesn't grab you, turn off the TV, walk away. Take up knitting or something, you don't enjoy storytelling.

I don't even consider it acting tbh, think it is more like constant stand up mode. Don't think a few episodes of Seinfeld is enough to come up with a proper opinion because it changes so much throughout. Do you remember any of the episodes you've seen?
I know you love Seinfeld like most awesome people but have you ever tried Community?
I have tried like three episodes. If it comes to Netflix I will give it another shot.
Every sitcom I love I have come back to before falling in love with it. That includes the holy television trinity that is Seinfeld, The Office, and Friends.

thats fair enough. i remember one where he dropped a girlfriends toothbrush down the toilet for example lol
in all honesty if someone else had acted as the main character i prob would have enjoyed it alot more,he`s my main problem with the show.

Community is actually one of the very few things the UK Netflix has over the US Netfix, not sure why that is must be something to do with the channel the show is on or something. Not sure if it would come close to the holy trinity but i think you'd love it if you gave it a chance, i mean watching the first Season it grows on you then when you go back to the first few episodes which were just ok for you, you realize they were great too. I'm just talking about my experience but i'd be surprised if you didn't end up really liking it.

Yeah, I will definitely give it another chance. I keep meaning to give Parks and Rec a proper watch as well. I have seen a good fifteen scattered episodes of that, and I think it is solid.

Fair enough i guess. I have shows and movies that are really ruined by certain people, i personally can't understand why Seinfeld could be like that for anyone because every one of them seriously annoyed me at one point. I'd suggest you give it a proper try though, you've only watched a few and there's every chance those were all Jerry at his worst. Jerry has as many great moments as the rest of them, and he has the best family; Leoooo :D

Community is more important mate, i honestly think you'll love this show and that isn't just because i like it better than Parks and Rec (which i also love would be quite a bit higher now that i've watched it all). Well, so far two of your top 10 would be in my Top 10. Well, at least Top 15. As my list is still a work-in-progress, I may have to alter the one's spot. I won't say which two they are just yet, though, of course. :)
But I will say this. I loved Jerry Seinfeld in that show. I thought he was great. Yeah, he was just a comedian playing a comedian in his supposed daily life, but he really did it quite well. Just because he is a comic, it doesn't mean delivering his comedic lines will be that easy for him. He still needs to be believable on some sort of level, and I thought he was great in it. And, really, how could another actor play him? That would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.
But I may be a bit biased. I have always been a big fan of his. I also saw the man perform live twice. I just really like Jerry Seinfeld in general.

Haven't watched this in ages but I had to include this as I was pretty obsessed with it a one point. Not even sure how many episodes I've seen actually. While I liked Peggy and the kids, this was the All Bundy show. Despite how mysogynistic, exit and just foul in general he was, he was still pretty awesome
Favourite Character: Al
Liked this show better with Steve than with Jefferson.
6.It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Ok, i know having this above Seinfeld will be mad to some (except HK who'll ask why either are on the list without actually watching Sunny :p), but this has made me laugh much more, possibly more than any other show except one in my top four. Described as "Seinfeld on Crack" pretty often, i don't think that is inaccurate i just think it is pretty understated because it makes Seinfeld look like The Brady Bunch which is of course not a good or bad thing.
I really don't know where to start in explaining why i love the show so much, the characters i guess. One thing i really love about the characters is that there are no winners, and by winners i don't mean winners in live i mean sitcom winners that seem to always come out on top, an example from something i've watched recently being Gina from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, even Seinfeld had Kramer who more often than not came out the best in a situation. Well Sunny doesn't feature that, the gang as a whole rarely come out the winners in an episode, sometimes they come out better than the others like how Charlie and Mac (to a lesser extent) comes out against Dee and Dennis in the welfare episode. I think that is partly related to the most important element of the show, no one character being more likeable than the other throughout the series. When you first watch it you may be more sympathetic to a certain character but the more you watch the more awful they all act so you are either going to react against the characterization and just not enjoy the show much, or like me you are going to hate them all pretty equally but love the humour the show gives out.
To me, rewatching the show Dennis has became my favourite, he certainly isn't the first vain character in comedies and other shows have tried to examine similar characters a bit deeper, but i do think he is the most explored character on the show and that his jokes hit the most. Charlie would be next, i wouldn't be surprised if him alone would turn some off the show because he is incredibly loud and disgusting, but he seems to be the most talented out of the gang which is something i've already loved. Mac next, when me and my friends first watched this we quoted him a lot and did some of his killer moves, one of my friends favourite episode is actually the Country Mac one. Frank would be next but i think he makes me cringe the most, i saw an interview before Season 10 were they were saying that Frank will be crazier than ever, i preferred the Frank that was the alert one of the group who would con and test these idiots like his first appearance with Wheelchair Charlie and the way the Crack episode turns out. Dee would be last, i really like the actress i think she can be pretty hilarious at times but i just don't think the writers can write women well not that i'd expect them to. Mostly she is just getting bullied or abused, a few times i've cracked up during this like the one were she gets set on fire because it was so ridiculous, or the one with the cat in her wall :D. Her other main character trait of wanting to be a performer doesn't work to much for me either sadly, the episode were she becomes successful and Dennis loses his mind would be in my bottom five and i thought her segment of the store robbery episode was he weakest.
The first six seasons of the show are amazing for me, there is not a single episode i dislike there. The next two a few problems start to appear, then the last three are still enjoyable but are very inconsistent. I hope it ends next season even though i know this show could go on forever the way the characters and stories are.
05. Arrested Development
http://i66.tinypic.com/mkysdj.jpg
Humour is subjective of course, i understand much more when someone doesn't like or even hates a comedy i like than a drama, but i still get taken aback when someone finds Arrested Development anything other than hilarious, and those who find it unfunny i just.. i.. i don't understand. Particularly because it features pretty much every kind of comedy you can imagine, witty, slapstick, clever, intentionally dumb, etc. And Arrested Development is pretty much a joke minute (much more usually) so it isn't as if it just touches on different forms of comedy it explores them thoroughly throughout. Obviously some of those are subjective but i find it difficult to imagine people not at least having a fun time with the episodes even if they don't find the show great.
Anyway i wanted to include my #4 tonight but i know i'd end up spending that much in writing this show up that i'd just ignore it so instead i've used a post i made about the show before. Some of this might need context which is why i've included the link at the bottom.

Really surprised at how many people that weren't really aware what AD was. To me it is one of the funniest shows ever made, also unlike alot of the other Comedies i love it's actually quite intelligent.
Characters don't usually matter to me quite as much as some others, in the sense that a show or movie could be among my favourites while having a main character i dislike, for example Lost (Jack), The Sopranos (AJ), etc. Arrested Development is one of just two shows (the other is still to come), that i can think of were i really like every character. Even Minor Characters like, Bob Loblaw, Barry Zuckercorn, Ice, etc, work perfectly for me.
In my opinion, every one of the Bluth Family are excellent, to the extent that i wouldn't be able to pick a favourite; i suppose G.O.B has made me laugh the most but the others have qualities that put them on an equal footing. Michael the most sane of the family (even though he's pretty insane himself) is the perfect balance to his wacky family members, something i personally think AD got perfect an example of a similar sane character of the group that doesn't work as well for me is Leonard from The Big Bang Theory. That's not to say he isn't hilarious in his own way, his sarcastic responses to his family particularly his mother are excellent. I also think it was a nice touch to give him an overbearing nature towards his son that he'd clearly inherited from his Mother.
George Michael (actual name ) for people who haven't watched the show he's Michaels son. Again bringing it back to the sanity of the family, it's quite difficult to tell whether him or his Dad is the most sane, i think it would be most accurate to say that he has the most common sense but is still completely wacko. I really love when they show you things from his point of view, his life is just so awkward from his attraction to his cousin and his aforementioned overbearing father. While he is depicted as intelligent, he is also extremely naive and child-like in many ways; all things considered though he is pretty much the perfect son. Some of the funniest storylines have revolved around GM, like the drug deal gone bad, hot cops debacle .
At this point i'm clearly starting to rant, i was thinking of going through all of the Bluths but considering how long this post already is, and there still being 6 of them, i may as well stop here. Anyway incredibly well written and funny show, while i still really like Season 4 it should never have been cancelled in the first place.

04. The Wire
http://i66.tinypic.com/mim9g9.jpg
I've talked a lot about this show on the site before probably more than any other and recently in the TV Tournament two separate times. So i don't see the need to show how much of a fanboy i am much more, haha. What i will say is that i think that it is the best show i've ever seen, i think its perfection holds it back a bit from my #1 that has a flawed charm along with its five star, writing, characterizations, etc. My #2-4 aren't that separated, my #1 is without doubt my favourite but i'm just feeling the next two a bit more than The Wire at this moment which is my it isn't #2 or 3. Anyway again a post i made about The Wire before on this site:
When i was talking about Arrested Delevopment i mentioned another show that just about every character was perfect for me and it was of course The Wire. The only character off the top of my head that i didn't take particularly well to was Brother Mabuse or whatever his name was, and even he had a significant impact on my enjoyment of the show considering the storyline he was involved in.
One thing that The Wire did incredibly well, was balance the characters roles throughout the seasons. For the first two Seasons i felt that Mcnulty was going to be the main character throughout, even though he's the closest thing to one when you look at his involvement in Season 3 and 4 (3 in particular), you notice that the writers went out of their way to make multiple (practically everyone) interesting characters that would serve a larger purpose than just furthering the story.
Please ask me about my specific thoughts here if you want, i just feel like i've said enough about the show already and that i couldn't do the show justice if i wanted to.
You didn't need all of that explanation for Arrested Development, you could have just used two words...

Along with both versions of The Office, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Arrested Development make up my top four comedies. I love both of them, absolutely hilarious. I knew you were fans of both, but great to see them both so high up. I've actually been rewatching Sunny recently (first three seasons) and now you make me want to rewatch Arrested Development too :D

I think Sunny gets treated like crap as a show because of the way it is to be honest. Since it was your nom in the TV Tournament i really wanted you to jump in and explain why it isn't stupid, i don't know, it really isn't at all and if my post on it here didn't help (don't even remember without checking what i wrote so it probably didn't) then i just don't know. Not that a comedy show needs to be anything other than funny but the idea that the show is stupid to me is stupid, i think it ignores a lot of the ways the show parodies, satrizes, things. Not saying it is anything incredibly clever or whatever but i think it gets overlooked/ misunderstood a bit.

Don't know, but yeah, I really need to. I've probably mentioned it, but I have it all on DVD, might do it this summer now I'm back home with my brother :)

Yeah sorry, wasn't really on forums much after I nominated. But yeah I agree, I asked my friends in real life if any of them watched it and one of them said he's seen some but it's pretty stupid, I tried to explain how he was wrong but not much look. Yeah, some of the characters and what they do is extremely stupid, but the show itself is so intelligently written I think. Cool to think it's written/created by Mac. I think they have a great understanding of a lot of current issues and the way people work. So yeah, calling it stupid is silly, I would not hesitate to call it a brilliantly written comedy.
Cool to think it's written/created by Mac.
Agree with everything but so many of the best episodes are written by Dennis (Glenn) ;). It is really cool that Rob (Mac) created the show.

I didn't really notice that too much, but looking at what episodes he's wrote, his record is fantastic, some of my favourites in there. Also agree that he's the funniest character, as you say, the vein character is quite common but he just does it so perfectly and really captures the slightly insane feel well :p

You bailed at one point during our Sunny Season 11 ratings in the TV Tab :p.
I know you didn't bail, but yeah in whatever episode it was i mentioned how well done Dennis we are on a boat callback was.

Yeah I haven't been that active overall though last month or two (even though I noticed I talked about B99 two pages on, maybe I just missed it), I thought I posted that I finished the season in the thread though, can't be bothered to check now :p Agree with most of what you say, especially the last episode on Dennis' CCH Pounder impression, that was gold, I wasn't exactly sure who it was when they said her (Obviously I know her from Sons of Anarchy but it didn't click right away) but once he did the impression I knew who she was and laughed so much. Love the "Oi! Oi! Oi!" in an English accent at Charlie too, stuff like that just makes me laugh, and the imaginary dinner. Annoyed me a little bit when he explained to Dee what "the implication" was, he didn't have to spell it out as we all know what he's talking about. Still surprised you disliked CharDee MacDennis 2 so much, I really enjoyed that episode. Glad to see you ranked the suburbs one high. I actually rewatched most of the season the other day with my brother who hadn't watched it, and we both particularly loved that one.
Edit:Also by the way if you didn't hear I'm pretty sure they announced at least two more seasons, maybe three?
Still surprised you disliked CharDee MacDennis 2 so much,
Think it is my least favourite episode, i'll go into why if you want but i'd rather talk about why the show is so great which there is not enough of around here ;)
I actually mentioned you when i watched the leprauchan episode, both because i really liked it and because we had been talking about it already. That quote was my favourite of the Season probably, especially coupled with the visuals:
