Nosferstu would've been my #1 out of the few i've seen here. Congrats Sane :) .

despite not being involved with this Hall of Fame, Nosferatu the Vampyre was my favorite nomination of those i'd seen. Happy it won. Has a bit of that 'foreign' arthouse vibe, along with a great atmosphere, and spooky Klaus Kinski. With all those elements, i thought it a strong contender from the start

Nosferatu!!!!

Very close race with Rosemary's Baby scoring 107. One less than the winner.

I will rank the whole list later, but for now let's congratulate Sane!

As you know, I've been away for awhile here and there. OK, a long while. I'm not sure when this began, what thread started it, or anything. Could someone explain what is to happen, if anything, after the movie is picked/has won? What's next?

That's it over Destiny. Basically all that entered picked one horror movie of their own and watched everyone elses pick. After this was finished each person ranked all the films and the winner chosen from that.

Godoggo has a thread setup for all the winners. The person who nominated the film does a write up and some art work is chosen to go with the write up. I think almost a the inductees so far have had mofo user art work with it so that has been pretty cool. There is always one big HOF going on where we can nominate anything we please and then over the past few months we have had specialty HOF. Shorts, Noir, Horror. Its good times. Plenty of time is given, to participate you just have to be able to watch all the movies. Usually a week per nomination is given. Hope this helps. Glad to see you around Destiny.

So now I just need In a Lonely Place to win the Noir HoF and my plans for MoFo domination will be almost complete!

Really glad this won but also really surprised. Like most people I thought Rosemary's Baby would win. Like others have said thanks for running these Godoggo. They are one of the things I enjoy most about this site :)

Yes, I have to give a big thanks to Godoggo as well, it's so awesome that you are so actively running these things! :D

I hope we can do a Horror HoF Part 2 in the future... :p

My only question would be how HK ranked the top 2. If he had Rosemary's Baby higher, there could be a tie if he put Alyce Kills between them.

He had Nosferatu higher.

mark doesn't even have to know to know that's true. :D Rosemary's Baby higher than Nosferatu? Even in an infinite number of universes that universe doesn't exist.

Congrats to Sane for another winner. Damn good film. Thanks for running the tournament, Godoggo. :)

No, it's better than the original Nosferatu film. :yup:

Also, for those who liked Nosferatu for anything other than it being a well made film, may I direct you here.

Well, I don't always trust your opinion, but the Nosferatu remake, or whatever it is, is probably better than a lot of the other options. Though I see The Ring was in the Top 5. Not that I consider The Ring to be one of the best horror films ever, but that's probably why Raul wished I had stayed.

Surprised, but pleased, to see that Nosferatu the Vampyre won. I probably would've voted for Rosemary's Baby, since, quality-wise, I think it's the best of the nominees, but Nosferatu is a personal favorite of mine. The greatest vampire film ever made, in my opinion. Also right up there with John Carpenter's The Thing as far as being one of the greatest remakes of all-time. Incredible atmosphere, striking imagery, haunting lead performance by Kinski. Plus the film has a level of verisimilitude rarely seen in the genre. to those who participated.

I'm still disappointed that MovieGal dropped out before more people got a chance to watch Cannibal. I was really looking forward to seeing everyone's disgusted reactions.

Ok it looks like we're doing this so here's how I voted-

1. Possession
2. Rosemary's Baby
3. Nosferatu the Vampyre
4. Alyce Kills
5. May
6. The Haunting
7. The Ring
8. A Tale of Two Sisters
9. You're Next
10. The Abominable Dr. Phibes
11. The Night Stalker
12. Suspiria

Biggest surprise-Possession

I've wanted to see Possession for a long time, but I believe I put it off because I had some doubts.

Biggest disappointment-

None from those 12. I already knew I wasn't a fan of Suspiria, but I don't dislike it. I really enjoyed all of the other 11. I was a little disappointed by Audition, but it became ineligible anyway.

Thank you very much Gdog, and I hope you're doing ok.

Mine looked like this.

The Haunting
You're Next
Nosferatu The Vampyre
Suspiria
The Ring
May
The Night Stalker
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Rosemary's Baby
A Tale Of Two Sisters
Possessed

For me the biggest surprise was You're Next, which I'd heard mostly middling to negative word on, but I liked quite a bit.

Possessed was by far the biggest disappointment for me. I really can't believe how bad that was. That some people praised the performances made me question whether I'd watched the right version/film. Obviously this was the directors choice, because both of them are far too good to do that otherwise, which only made me hate it more.

Yes. :) Something went wrong with the order and I don't think they recieved it, that's why I didn't get it. But I'll watch it if I manage to come across it. It Follows is what I really want to see att.

4. You're Next
5. The Haunting

8. May

10. Rosemary's Baby

And here's my list,

1. Rosemary's Baby
2. The Night Stalker
3. Nosferatu the Vampyre
4. The Ring
5. The Haunting
6. Suspiria
7. May
8. A Tale of Two Sisters
9. You're Next
10. The Abominable Dr. Phibes
11. Possession
12. Alyce Kills

- Biggest surprise - was defiantly The Night Stalker, and it actually played out just like my type of film. Love the mix of horror and noir crime thriller, and the way it evolved was great. I must admit it was closely followed by Nosferatu the Vampyre, which I was pleasantly surprised by as well... Again, glad to see it winning this Hall of Fame. :)

- Biggest letdown - was Possession... It looked like my kind of film, with some slight similarity to my own personal favourite and nomination, Rosemary's Baby. It had the same kind of surfaced feel to it, with the horror kept under a tight and emotional drama story. It seemed great at the beginning, but suddenly it took a change in pace I did not like at all. It became way too weird and amateurish for my taste, whether intentional or not. I really wanted to like it but I didn't.

Quick thoughts on the original...
I think it was a bad idea to show Pinhead that clearly in the first couple of minutes of the movie, it really made him appear less intimidating right from the start. Also, I will also just come with something right from the beginning here: Pinhead felt like a cool character but honestly totally out of place in this story in my opinion. He just popped up once in a while and never felt entirely threatening, which was most likely because of bad scriptwriting and story build-up. The acting was fine, but the story was so incomplete that it felt like an entire novel desperately turned into a 1,5 hour picture. It never finished all of what it had started and appeared quite messy overall – even considering that it wasn’t exactly what you would call a big and wide-reaching movie. But I really liked the fun and pretty well done practical effects, and the idea of the blood bringing you back etc. Overall I just wasn’t impressed at all though…
2/5

Review of the sequel...
Okay, so this was actually a major surprise considering the fact that I was far from a fan of the first film. Actually, I kind of loved it as it went on and kept being interested in seeing what is next. I think they exploited the concept and characters a lot more in this, and also explored the actual idea of a connection between life and dead. I loved how it began right after the first, and it sort of reminded me of a Hellraiser-version of the quite successful Halloween II...

It seemed as if the director and writer wanted to use more time on creating an interesting follow-up, and because of all the flashbacks and connections to the original this could actually be seen on totally its own, which I really liked the thought of since I enjoyed it so much. But then, suddenly out of nowhere, it pretty much turned to **** from one second to the other. I don’t know what happened, it seemed as if another director took over, or maybe the director didn’t trust in the slow but tense atmosphere he had created, and instead went with campy effects, campy humour and totally insane decisions. What happened? But if I have to be honest, I even liked the movie as they entered Hell because of it feeling quite crazy but controlled. But around the time when the doctor turned inhuman - which was totally unnecessary in my opinion and Pinhead was once again a secondary character - that is when it just fell to the floor, and got worse and worse as time went by. The last half hour sort of reminded me of an extreme R-rated version of Poltergeist meets The Never-ending Story, and just came across as a fantasy family-orientated film – in its execution, not story or gory wise.

It is such a shame, because I actually really loved it up until then. It was self-aware and had a perfect balance of the horror elements and the more dramatic elements, and it was well-developed and very well shot as well. I love when the camera in a horror movie acts lively and sort of dwells in various corners and corridors throughout the film (sort what James Wan is doing today as well). It even had some impressive symmetry in its shots and the soundtrack was fittingly epic and godlike in its scale and sound. Typical, yes perhaps, but defiantly effective.

My rating of 3/5 may be a bit too much considering the fact that it is pretty much two different films together in one. But there was so much I liked, and I just don’t want to **** all over the film when it actually was quite great most of the time. I think we are talking about 1 hour and 15 minutes worth of a good horror film, and then about 25 minutes of campy stupidity…

rating_3-

I also saw it when it came out. I only remember the beginning, when some chick makes love to a guy without her skin. It was hot as hell. But I remember it being pretty good, so I'll endure once more and agree.
