As Godoggo challenged me to reading a Margaret Attwood book, I'm going to reciprocate. Godoggo I challenge you to read The Crimson Petal and The White by Michel Faber.
Let me know if you've already read it cos I have a few more you might like!

I've decided I'm not gonna try to make it a point to make ZERO threads all of next year... just in case I need to make one or two... but I WILL try to restrain myself and make a lot less. So.... no MoFo Monopoly. No MoFo Battleship. No Super MoFo Brothers. No MoFo Risk. No MoFo Operation. No MoFo Candy Land. No Mrs. Pac-MoFo. No MoFo Tetris. No Sonic the MoFoHog.

Challenge me... I like a challenge. ;)

I challenge Daniel M to open a preliminary 60s thread once the animation countdown is over, and to lead an insanely great countdown for it.
Just seen this, and I will do, of course :)

Ok. I challenge you (Rhys) to watch five animation films each one from a different country. The countries can be English speaking. Must not have viewed them before.

I like it. I accept!
If it is a Japanese animation for example and it has the option of good English dubs would that count? Like a Miyazaki film.

Yep. Just as long as you have never seen it before and every one is from a different country.

I have a challenge, but it's not for any specific person. It's for anyone who wants to accept it, or even a group of people if you want to work together.
I'm challenging anyone, individually or as a group, to take over the birthday list on the "Born Today" thread.
This is kind of a unique challenge because it's kind of selfish of me, but it's being done for a good reason. My schedule has been changing recently, and I just don't have the time to keep doing it. I think it's a great thread, and I've enjoyed reading all kinds of fascinating information about these people, and passing this information along to everyone here, but recently it's been a struggle for me to get it done every day.
I hope someone agrees with me enough to accept this challenge and continue it.

I challenge Cobpyth to check off all of the films on Film4's Top 50 Films To See Before You Die that he hasn't seen.

Forum Wide Challenges
Here are a couple of boring movie watching challenges for everyone. The purpose is to help people (and that most certainly includes me) expand their movie watching variety.
1. Watch a film from at least 7 different countries. For the purpose of this challenge let's classify the UK and Ireland as one country, and lump the US and Canada together as one country of North America. So for example if you watch films from USA, Canada, England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland you've not ticked off 6 countries but just 2.
2. Watch a film from each decade between the 1930s and the 2010s. So that's a film from 9 separate decades.
Oh and here's an extra challenge which is just a silly little bit of fun.
3. Complete the alphabet in terms of films you watch. Taking the first letter of each film try and tick off all 26 letters of the alphabet. If people want to complete this one I imagine we'll be getting a lot of viewings of Quiz Show and Quills. :D
I probably do the first two every year without realizing it.
I'll do number three, but I'll make it more interesting/difficult for myself. I'll try to do it with films I haven't seen before and are at least 180 minutes in duration. Any three hour Q or X movies?

If I've already seen Brigadoon about 100 times, should I watch the 1966 TV version with Robert Goulet, Peter Falk, and Sally Ann Howes?

2. I challenge rauldc14 to make a "serious" post in the Rate The Last Movie You Saw thread writing at least 10 sentences on how bad Finding Nemo is plus leave a rating, like if the movie was one of the worst he ever saw. :p
3. I challenge cricket to watch Tucker and Dale vs. Evil if he hasn't already!
4. More will come... Aaaargh!

I challenge jiraffejustine to watch Fritz Lang's Siegfried, and Kriemhild's Revenge. You also have to tell us how you found it and where.
Just to give you an example of how impossible I think this task is, I have scoured the internet for Kriemhild's Revenge to no avail, and I went to the largest video store in Toronto, Queen Video, and it was the only Fritz Lang movie they didn't have. Siegfried should be no problem though.

There are two different movies one is labeled Siegfried and the other Kriemhild's Revenge. I looked at movie stills too and they looked the same as what is on YouTube.
The written part is in German but it could be easily translated. (I was pretty proud that I could read some of it. )

I challenged myself to read 70,000 pages of fiction over the next 12 months. I will count the stuff I already read over the past week so I will try to meet my own challenge by 25 december 2015. Of course, comic books count (i.e. manga) but I will also count non-comic fiction books as well.
Sorry, it's not about movies but I haven't read much (novels or manga) so I decided to focus on reading now that I think I watched plenty of masterpieces of film and animation.

This doesn't have to be movie related. There are art challenges, reading and even a streaking one.
I think I have most challenges on the front page. I'll make sure to always keep us with this so that people will never have to go further than two pages to dig for challenges
Don't forget about this! I'm going to try to complete at least 10 challenges throughout the year.

I challenge Guap to watch the first two seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I can understand the first will be a real struggle for you, Guap, but I think the second season is a better barometre for you. Don't forget that to get credit for your challenge you must log it in the challenge completion thread.
I have quite a few completed challenges to log into the achievement post thread. I haven't forgotten, I've just been busy. If I haven't done it in the next couple of days someone can remind me.
There are so many "everyone" challenges that I am not going to accept anymore until a few get completed. Challenge specific members until that happens.

These ratings make me sad. Those are some of my all-time favorite movies.
Some of those ratings are heartbreaking...
MASH, Bridge on the River Kwai, The Apartment, Pulp Fiction, American Graffiti, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest... waaaah! :bawling:

All challenges are posted in the first post again. I'm all caught up.
Remember this is an all year thing. Keep challenging and keep doing them. Once again to get credit for a challenge you must log it in the challenge completed thread.
If you want a challenge speak up, or you can do the everyone challenges. Due to how many everyone challenges there are, I am going to treat them as first come gets the credit and then erase the challenge. This is to encourage more and different types of challenges though out the year.
Have fun with these. I really want to see how big the challenge log is come Dec. 31st. I'm hoping it's huge. :)
Completed my two challenges, I need something new. Hint: I am 23 short of finishing the AFI 100 because there are quite a few movies there I can't bring myself to start. I have wanted to finish that list for years. I used to keep a magazine copy of it in my desk.
Godoggo
01-13-15, 10:32 PM
Ok. I am going to challenge you to watch specific films from that list. These are my favorites of what you have left. The Wild Bunch; The Philadelphia Story; Bringing Up Baby; The
Gold Rush & The Maltese Falcon. I'm going to add one that I didn't care for, Sophie's Choice, just to see how we agree/differ on these particular movies.
Godoggo
01-14-15, 10:05 PM
I'm going to figure out ways to award points for the challenges. Right now all I know for sure is movie challenges will be 5 points a movie. So for example, Seanc completed 2 challenges with 3 movies each so he has a total of 30 points. Unless a movie is over 3 1/2 hours then it's worth 10.
I think art pieces will be worth 10 points as they usually take 4 or more hours to do.
Books might be 10 for 200 pages and 5 for each 100 pages thereafter. It's not set in stone.
This a will be a way to earn a MoFie instead of having to be voted for. Three to five members will earn a MoFie depending on the level of participation.
Remember you can always do the challenges that are for everyone and ask to be challenged, so no complaining that you didn't have any challenges. ;)

A lot of the early horror movies, (like the Universal Monsters movies), are more suspense than horror, even though they're classified as horror. I just have to figure out which ones I haven't seen yet.
I assume movies like Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein don't count.
That would be correct. :p

gbg, ignore my last challenge, I have a better one. Watch all the movies in Swan's Top Ten. I've seen 8 out of the 10, and all 8 are good.
I've already seen five of the movies in Swan's Top Ten, and I didn't like three of them. I can appreciate Alien as a good sci-fi movie, but it's too close to horror for my tastes. However, I liked Blade Runner.
In addition, I tried watching The Seventh Seal when it was on TCM a while back, and I couldn't get through the first half hour.
It's unlikely that I'll like the remaining movies.
I think the idea of these challenges is to find something you think the person being challenged would like, not something that you would like.

Everyone has all year. I just don't want this to be forgotten about as it started out so strong. Plus this is going to be a part of the MoFies ceremonies next year. Whoever has the most points will win an award. This thread is a very neat idea. I've never seen anything like it on the boards I used to haunt. If it gets bumped from time to time it will keep alive.
I do have 2 other challenges that I'm going to do by 2015.

Courteney Cox was in the Scream movies, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and a very good but little known TV movie called Sketch Artist II: Hands That See.
David Schwimmer of course is the voice of Melman the giraffe in the Madagascar films.
For Matt LeBlanc, you're probably stuck watching Charlies Angels.

For Courtney Cox films, I recommend a comedy, 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001)

Yes it does. 3000 Miles to Graceland is sort of a comic take off on the star studded, casino caper movie, Ocean's 11.
They rob a casino during Elvis Week and you can guess what their disguised as;). It's got a big cast too...
Kurt Russell
Kevin Costner
Courteney Cox
Christian Slater
Kevin Pollak
David Arquette
Jon Lovitz

Yes, that's him. I said that I like him. Not that I dislike him. He's probably the best impressionist ever, especially his Shatner, Alan Arkin, and Christopher Walken.
He did "Star Trek V: In Search of Cash" on The Star Trek Comedy Album.

Here's a cool coincidence.
Just before I left this afternoon, I had to set my DVR to record "Judge Judy", and while I was scanning through the menu to set it, I noticed that 3000 Miles to Graceland was scheduled to air this afternoon too, so I set my DVR for that movie too. :)

Think this through. Based on what you already know about how I feel about the movies I've already seen from your top ten, do you really want to read MY reviews of YOUR favorite movies? :skeptical:
Well, you don't have to write reviews on them.

Rather than taking the "everyone" challenges off the list, why don't you create a separate post and just link to it. That way if someone is looking for a challenge, they can read through the "everyone" challenges to find one, plus if someone is working on one of the "everyone" challenges, it won't disappear before they complete it.
