View Full Version : Optimus 100 favourite movies
Some people say Star Trek is a great reboot but to be honest for me it was very average. The film failed to keep me interested in a lot of parts, mostly because of the assumption that the audience is already familiar with the series. Which is wrong.
I've never seen Jaws 2, your controversial statement has made me curious about it though.
28 Days Later is pretty good for a zombie movie.

There's are a few strange choices that some may disagree with in the final 17. But there movies I enjoy and I wanted to be completely honest.

Not seen Troy or every cared to (it might be fine I've just no interest in it) and didn't like what very little I saw of The Inbetweeners on tv and so haven't seen either film. Despite that, Point Break is brilliant. I love it, I have it on my own 100 and seeing it this high up (higher than it is on my own list) just ensures that rep goes your way.

I really like Troy!
I don't know why but I've never seen Point Break in full (seen parts of it) I need to get around to it sometime.
Never seen the Inbetweeners.

Yeah, it seemed to receive a lot of hate, which I kind of understand. However, I love epics, and this fit the bill.

I know nothing about The Inbetweeners, TV-wise or movie-wise.
Point Break has quite a few fans on here. I don't love it, but I do enjoy it.
Troy is a good movie. I enjoy grandiose epics like that with lots of battles and whatnot. Exciting movie.

I'm not a huge fan of disaster films, but Independence Day was alright. Didn't love it but it was decent.
The first Transformers was fun, saw it at the theater and enjoyed it.
Never saw Toy Story 3 and I need to try and change that, saw the first 2 and they're good, but I'm just not as crazy about them as some people are.
Can't wait to see the rest, don't keep us waiting too long!

ID isn't really a disaster movie, is it? I quite liked it, but it's straight up alien invasion. It's War of The Worlds which I've never heard described as a disaster story.
I've not seen Transformers because I have eyes and I like them in the sockets they currently reside in.
Toy Story 3 was OK, but, as I've said on more than one occasion on this site, I liked it more when it was called Toy Story 2. But I don't care about any of them, so it doesn't really matter. :D

Maybe I should watch The Inbetweeners movies. I liked the tv show, I just assume it works better as 25 minute episodes (or how ever long they lasted) than a full movie.

Of course it's not. The Three Colours Trilogy is the greatest trilogy of all time. :yup:
I hate Independence Day, I don't like the first Transformers even if it has some good moments
...but Toy Story 3 is awesome! 2nd favorite film in the series for me. I think it was a brilliant wrap-up of 20 years of Toy Story and they did it well with a great plot, bigger scale and I like how it's darker than the other two films but still bright and energetic.

Gladiator is a great epic with plenty of memorable scenes and quotes, as well as some fun characters and great battle/fight scenes! All accompanied by the soundtrack later used in Pirates of t... uh, I mean a great new soundtrack from Hans Zimmer in that one as well! ;)
Pulp Fiction is simply a crazy and cool cult classic. What is there to say? ... It seems to get better and better with each viewing, and c'mon, it's Tarantino dressed to kill with top notch dialogue and characters!
The Avengers badly needs a rewatch, I think I forgot to have fun with it, I don't know... But as of right now I'm not the biggest fan. :/

The Avengers is one of my favorite superhero movies. It's not just the good vs. evil, because we get that with every superhero movie, but the interaction between the characters was fantastic.

Wow very cool yet ironic that you have Gladiator next on your list cause... well... just visit my countdown later today to find out why. :D
Pulp Fiction is great of course. It's been said a hundred times why so I'll just leave it at that.
The Avengers... well... it's good but I'm not that crazy about it. That's kinda on me though cause I just never got real into the comic book movie craze. I do agree however that it's one of the best of the genre, and it was a pretty fun watch.

This last set is probably my favorite so far :D I think they would all be in my top 100, maybe even top 20.
Gladiator is... well epic of course. It's one of my favorites by Ridley Scott.
Pulp Fiction is classic Tarantino... need I say more? He's my favorite director after Marty Scorsese.
The Avengers, the most awesome and fun superhero movie... + Robert Downey Jr. is in it and Scarlett Jo as Natasha Romanova which is the inspiration for my user name:D I need to rewatch it before Age of Ultron comes out.

Well.... meh. Sorry. Gladiator is average. It's one of the few things MV and I disagree on but boy do we disagree. I don't hate it, nor do I think it's bad (at least I didn't when I saw it. I might do now) but it's OK. Average. Meh.
Pulp Fiction I used to adore and I hope that when I finally get around to watching it again I still do. However, The Gold Watch story has always been weak (even when I adored it, it was the worst part) and after dozens and dozens of viewings, it got to the point where I really don't want to watch it. I completely understand it being here, though. There was a time when this was top 10 stuff for me, too. Still not better than Reservoir Dogs, but top 10.
I've not seen The Avengers.

Love Pulp Fiction!
I haven't seen Troy but think I may have the DVD. I've heard good things about it.
Haven't seen Transformers or The Inbetweeners.

Like many others, I watched the Home Alone movies when I was a kid and have fond memories of them.
The Wolf of Wall Street is great!
I've seen all but the fourth PotC movies and I enjoyed them all.
Se7en is an awesome thriller. Good choice!
The Silence of the Lambs is one of the biggest movies that I haven't seen yet. Need to get to it soon.
Only saw the first half of Iron Man, I liked it but for some reason I never finished it. Never saw the sequels either.
Die Hard is a great action movie, good choice!
Can't wait for number 1!!!
Iron Man I've not seen because it's Iron Man and I'm HK.
Of course you haven't seen it, because you don't want to admit Iron Man is more awesome than HK. :p

I did a commentary for that with SC last year (I think it was) and it was just as enjoyable as I remembered it. Probably the only PTA film I've ever wanted to watch until Inherent Vice. I don't know if I'll like it or not, but that the fans aren't blown away by it is promising. :D

Iron Man - The best of the three and in my top 5 Marvel films.
Die Hard - One of the best action films ever made.
Se7en - Fincher's best film in my opinion, one of the best psychological thrillers around.
The Silence Of The Lambs - Could make my top 20 this time around...;)
Home Alone 1&2 - Many many hours of my childhood were used up watching those comedy gems. :)
The Wolf Of Wall Street - My second best Scorcese film after Goodfellas.
Pirates of The Caribbean - Only really liked the first film, the rest were just money-spinners for Disney.

I'm pretty damn sure I remember commenting a couple of weeks ago about 14-9 on your list, but I don't see my post, so either I hallucinated it or the post must not have gone through. That's annoying.
Anyways, congratulations on finishing your list, Optimus! I know the list doesn't feature enough classics or foreign films for some members of the forum, and there are definitely a few films that I think are terrible (*coughBattleshipcough*), but I admire your honesty. Your list may not feature the most acclaimed films of all-time, but most of the movies on here are fun and entertaining and enjoyable to revisit again and again.
Independence Day is a great example of that. I watched it in the theater as a kid and I loved it. I used to wear out my VHS copy of it too. I haven't seen it in many years, but lately I've had a strong desire to revisit it. I always get a kick out of Randy Quaid's character.
The sequels have been so god awful that it's soured my opinion of the first Transformers movie, but I enjoyed it at the time. Toy Story 3 is my least favorite of the trilogy, but it's a good movie. I'm sick of hearing people quote the "Are you not entertained?!" line from Gladiator, but it's a great movie. I own it on DVD, but haven't watched it in several years.
Pulp Fiction sucks. ;)
I gave my opinion of The Avengers in one of your other threads. It's a very good movie, but the magic quickly faded after that initial experience in the theater.
Very cool to see Home Alone so high on your list. I have a lot of nostalgia for that movie and I still watch it most years around Christmas time. I don't remember much about the sequel. I think I watched it once and that was it.
The Wolf of Wall Street was one of my favorites from 2013. Scorsese's still at the top of his game even after all these years.
I disagree with you about the Pirates of the Caribbean movies being "equally good." I think the sequels became too bloated and muddled for their own good, but even if they make fifteen sequels, I'll never grow tired of watching Captain Jack Sparrow.
Seven and Silence of the Lambs are two of the greatest thrillers of all-time. Love both.
Iron Man is still my favorite superhero film from the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe or whatever they call it. I love how self-contained it is, as opposed to seemingly all the other Marvel films which are preoccupied with laying the foundation for four or five other films instead of focusing on the one they're actually making.
I grew up with Terminator 2 and Predator and several Van Damme films, but I didn't see Die Hard until in my early 20's, so it's far from one of my favorite action movies. I don't dispute that it's one of the best of the genre, though, and I do like it, but I don't have the love for it that most seem to.
I'm a little surprised, yet extremely pleased, that Boogie Nights is your #1. Excellent choice.
