I saw a large amount of these on the dearly-departed FEARnet channel. :)

My wife rented The Eye like 10 years ago not knowing it was a foreign movie. I was a different movie watcher then. We put it on and were like wtf is this?!?! I probably only saw 5 minutes of it. I'd watch it now though.
I saw The Loved Ones a few months ago and I watched it twice in the same week. It's pretty awesome.

Not seen The Beyond, The Loves Ones or The Eye. I'm very interested in the first two, not so much the latter (although that's probably because I associate it with the Jessica Alba remake).
Audition was good, but nowhere near as disturbing as everyone had made it out to be.

For a minute I got The Girl Next Door confused with An American Crime. I didn't even know The Girl next door existed but it seems as if both movies are about Slyvia Likens. Yeah, maybe not a horror movie in the classic sense if the word, but horrifying none-the-less. I don't know about Girl Next Door, but American Crime was fairly close to the actual story.
Has anyone seen both? How do they compare?

I don't know if I would want it to be more graphic. Catherine Keener is one of my favorite working actors and she made me hate that character so much. I would have doubts that anyone could play Gertrude better than she did.

Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door is by far the most disturbing book I've ever read. I was sickened and appalled and horrified, yet I couldn't stop turning the pages. I think I read the entire thing in a day or two. The film adaptation pales in comparison, because you can only show so much on screen, but it was still a decent flick.
Inside was a huge surprise. I knew nothing about it and had no expectations, but I was blown away. Non-stop brutality and tension. I loved it.
The Descent is one of the best horror movies of this century, in my opinion.
High Tension was excellent until the nonsensical ending ruined every great scene that had come before it. If not for that idiotic ending, I could see it being one of my favorite horror movies.

I love horror, I'm not especially picky or critical and I think James Wan is the worst horror director there ever was. He's got this show everything and leave nothing to the imagination style that I abhor.
I don't really get why people like Wan so much. I guess his style of horror just doesn't scare me in the slightest and since I am normally so easily scared (I can't watch horror without my blanket on the ready to cover my eyes if need be) I'm just left with story and character and I don't think he has anything fresh or new to say.

That would be great. I like watching horror with my friend's niece for that reason. She's just now allowed to watch the harder stuff so this Halloween should be fun. Before The Others, Poltergeist and The Sixth Sense were about as scary as she was allowed to go and all those scared her.

Now we are back to scary. As a child I was terrified of movies that combine the occult with any sort of religious or biblical reference. After I saw The Omen I made my dad go over Revelations with me over and over and over again and had to assure me 300 times that it was just a movie and it was going to happen.
It still gives me the creeps.

Dawn of the Dead is pretty awesome; one of the best horror remakes outside of the 80's versions of The Thing and The Fly.

Never seen The Omen or Curse of the Demon.
I can't stand Zack Snyder, but I like Dawn of the Dead more than anything else he has directed.
I started watching Evil Dead 2 a few years ago, but turned it off after only five minutes. I'm not a fan of the ultra cheesy, cartoonish slapstick/silliness in horror films, and I could tell as soon as the movie started that I was probably going to hate it. I still want to watch the movie in full, but I don't expect to like it.

Misery is for neurotics. It's bad enough dealing with Kathy Bates in a normal setting -- you wanna torture yourself by watching a movie in which she's bonkers and tortures a man the entire time? When there's so many other more pleasant things to do in life?

Great list, Slob. While I may not love every film on here, I at least like them (those that I've seen). Particularly happy with the inclusion of Dog Soldiers, Descent (big Neil Marshall fan here), Night of the Creeps (I still say "Thrill Me" all the time), [REC]2, and on and on. And the original The Omen is still one of my favorite horror films (saw it as a preview film in a double-feature----anyone remember when they used to do that in your local theater?). Those are two of the best in my mind. My only question is where is the comedy in The Evil Dead? The sequels, yes, but the first one? I've heard that before on this site but I always assume people are mixing up the series.

Psycho is so great that it makes up for The Evil Dead.

Psycho is, of course, great. No way Evil Dead should be anywhere near the top of the list. I really should watch it again, though, as it's been a good while.

The classic chilling tale of crazy pagans luring a policeman to an island in search of a missing girl and sacrificing him to their gods. Also the subject of one of the worst horror remakes ever...The Bees..The Bees..Not the Bees!

Nice to see someone else who doesn't see Jaws as a horror film. :)
Two BLOODY good films. I had a GHOULISH time watching them. They really ELECTRIFIED me.

The best haunted house film ever made, with amazing cinematopraghy, performances, and music. The scene in the gif is one the scariest I've seen.

For whatever reason, I didn't care for The Haunting when I first saw it. (Which I think is odd, because just a few days after, I watched and loved The Innocents.)
Alien is good. Obvz.
Alien is WAY too low. ;)
Just playing. Glad to see it so high!
Well, The Innocents is better-paced and much-better overall than The Haunting but the latter is still good.

I have only seen The Thing once. Don't know how I really feel about it. I remember liking it, but I also don't recall being blown away.
I rewatched both of those movies recently. Fantastic films. The Exorcist is an absolute masterpiece of cinema.

Made on a tiny budget, this 70's indie horror from the directer of Poltergiest has became a cult classic.
Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a masterpiece. Great #1. One of my top 5 favorite horror films.
The Shining rocks too.

I love Videodrome and Mama. I didn't like Sinister. It started off well, but I didn't like where it went.
james woods was so great in the 80s. he made very good movies, like him so much in videodrome, in fact perfect cast.

Triangle isnt a horror movie, its a mystery thriller
Well done on your efforts Slob. Through a mixture of being MIA for a lot of the time when you were posting it and also not being much of a fan of the genre (which means I wouldn't have much to contribute) I didn't really follow the list. I have however added your list to the genre specific section of the MoFo's lists
