I was so sad that Santa Sangre did not make the 80's list. It is my favorite movie of the 80's!

I hope some of you horror buffs will pick it up. It is a very special kind of surrealist horror and imo Jodorowskys big masterpiece.

All of the Whispering Corridors films are great, but this one is my favorite. It's not really scary, but it's just a great story. The Voice is also supposed to be really good (Whispering Corridors IV) but I haven't seen it yet.

I should also mention Onibaba.

You can't call this a Horror Crew if all the members haven't seen some Fulci. Homework assignment for the "Crew" is to watch Zombie and The Beyond. You can follow up with The New York Ripper if you are feeling extra sleezy.

Swan

I've seen Zombie. I have a Zombie shirt. I have The New York Ripper too, but have yet to watch it.

My dad had this limited edition DVD of The Beyond too, but he sold it on eBay. I've never forgiven him.

Is the shirt the one with the B&W zombie or the one in color with the red trim?

Shame on your dad for selling, but kudos for ever owning such a thing.

And watch Ripper soon, it's spectacularly sleezy.

There's the Hammer and Amicus stuff. Mario Bava, too, Black Sunday. Black Sabbath. The Whip And The Body, Blood And Black Lace, Planet Of The Vampires.

Blood Feast is on my 100 and Swan has just fallen for it, too, as you can see, so there's that. I'd also recommend Two Thousand Maniacs as well. If you like both of them, then Color Me Blood Red might please you, too.

Psycho, The Innocents, Night of the Living Dead, The Haunting, Village Of The Dammed, Night Of The Eagle, Masque Of The Red Death, 13 Ghosts, Onibaba, Kuroneko, Rosemary's Baby, Carnival of Souls, The Tomb Of Ligia (I'm not much of a fan, but it's pretty well liked.) and The Sorcerers.

There's Carry On Screaming! too, which I quite like. :D

An underrated 60s horror film to definitely watch: The City of the Dead a.k.a. Horror Hotel. Also check out Peeping Tom, it ruined the career of a famous director but is immensely influential for horror films. The Sinners of Hell (Japanese title: Jigoku) probably has my favorite depiction of Hell on film. Blind Beast a.k.a. Moju is f*cked up and amazing if you can sit through it, it will test your stomach or at least it did mine. Not so much for gore, but just how much you can handle what this lady goes through.

I'll second Night of the Living Dead, Psycho, Rosemary's Baby, Kuroneko, The Innocents, and Carnival of Souls.

Sorry about my English :( but i will try to write good haha
Deep Red- by Dario Argento the most recommend here i think..
Blood and Black Lace- by Mario Bava
Pink Flamingos- a trash film by John Waters, a lot of fun and disturbing scene
Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror- A horror zombie film
House (1977)- Very psycho movie a lot of colors xD
Tokyo Gore Police- A lot of gore and very fun.
The Toxic Avenger- like "Tokyo Gore Police" a lot of gore and very fun but its more disturbing the Tokyo gore police.
Santa Sangre- A film by my favorite director Alejandro Jodorowsky, i think this movie is very "artist" and so beautiful, very recommend.
City of the Living Dead- A zombie horror film, very different i think from the others zombie films..
Anthropophagus- Nice movie with some disturbing scene.

i will write more tomorrow i think, well have fun :)

Thanks for posting in here. I thought your taste was interesting from your top ten, and I was proven right! I love House and I am a big fan of The Toxic Avenger. All the others I still need to see with the exception of Deep Red. I would like to revisit Deep Red though, the first time I saw it I didn't love it. It was right after I saw Suspiria, and I was blown away by it which skyrocketed my expectations for Deep Red to unreasonable levels.

I never really understood suspiria. I mean why is it good? I tried not to be too critical, but I was so excited when I bought it. I had heard a lot about it. But I found the cinematography pretty terrible, and well the plot and acting weren't good either. I don't know, it was a huge let down for me. I mean I think it was pretty revelutionary for it's genre, and it actually was pretty creepy. But the sound was also really bad. I just didn't like it at all. Deep Red was great though.

You guys should check out House of Whipchord. It's my favorite horror movie from the 70's.

While I agree that the plot and acting are not anything special, I was immersed in the atmosphere, colors, music, and I actually like the cinematography. I know that as far as cinematography goes, it's no Barry Lyndon. It certainly didn't seem as bad to me as it did to you though.

Well, I guess there weren't really horror movies like that in the 60's, so it really blew people away at the time. But I was kind of disappointed by the lack of quality in a lot of the more fundamental aspects of film.

The first time I tried watching it was at a friend's house with a bunch of friends and well... after like fifteen minutes everyone vetoed it. Then I watched it at home later. That was at least four years ago though. Maybe I should give it another watch. I think my understanding of film has grown quite a bit since then. Who knows, maybe I'll appreciate it more now.

Suspiria is all about the look, the sound and the atmosphere. If you aren't getting that, then I don't know that there's anything for you to be honest. It's a 70's film, BTW, not 60's and, while I don't know if there's anything quite like Suspiria around, the Italian influenced horrors and giallos certainly play like that. Not turned up to 11 like it is in Suspiria, but enough to make it recognisable, IMO.

Never got House Of Whipcord, myself. Though i'm sure Mino would like it. :D

For some reason a film just popped into my mind. It was a 90's horror in which a vending machine outside a gas station eats a mans hand. I think it was Stephen King's The Tommyknockers, but I'm not sure...

This is a problem I often find. Giallo's, for the most part, are not horror films. Americans don't see to get this and, as horror is an easier sell than anything more complicated, modern business doesn't seem to want to correct them. That, or they just assume it is and follow on. They seem to think they're all slasher films and, while some are and they are certainly influencial to that subgenre, most are suspense thrillers, IMO.

However, as Silence Of The Lambs, Aliens and Se7en now seem to be considered horror films, maybe they are all horror films now.

Yeah this is one thing I agree with you. Slashers/Gore.... are not always horror.... seriously?? I watch "war" films with more blood and guts than a horror film..

but then the Atrocities of War is a "horror" of its own.

Quick Pick Recommendations.

1408 Stylistic horror film reminiscent of The Shining.

Session 9 Creepy flick that scores because the atmosphere here is enough to make you stay awake.

Dead-Alive Hilarious zombie flick from Jackson that ups the ante for gore lovers.

Bubba Ho-Tep More comedy than horror, but the balance is blended superbly and Bruce Campbell is always a win.

Dog Soldiers One of the BEST werewolf films I've ever seen. See this flick.

Cabin Fever Only to see Roth's first foray into the genre and his homages to what inspires him.

Changeling If you like ghost stories, check this George C. Scott terror, which will have you reaching for the blanket to cover your eyes.

Cube Sci/Fi horror, people are trapped in a cube, with deadly traps surrounding them in each adjacent cube. Low-Budget horror at its finest.

Dead & Breakfast A mostly forgotten horror comedy about zombies. Check it out for a laugh and appreciation of the genre.

Eden Lake Wow, before Fassbender became famous he had this little gem. The ending will stay with you for awhile.

FROM BEYOND A fun film with trippy sequences into the next realm.

Frozen 3 people are stuck on a ski-lift with hungry wolves waiting beneath them. That concept alone should have you checking this one out.

Hatchet A throw back to the days of Myers, Voorheese and Kruger for today's generation.

Ginger Snaps A young girl going through puberty becomes a werewolf....boy the metaphors run wild in this one.

Identity a ten little indians horror flick in a rainy motel local.

Joy Ride Yes, this film is great and Yes Rusty Nail is one creepy horror villain whom you never see.

To Be Continued.

The Whispering Corridors is a series that's spawned five movies, and they aren't going to gratify you with violence or pop up and scare the pants off you. They are traditional ghost stories with a focus on story telling. They're all good but the most noteworthy are numbers IV and V. I have only seen the beginning of IV, but it made an impression and reviewers unanimously declare it to be the best in the series. I highly recommend you check them out if you love the horror genre, appreciate a well told story, and don't just want some sadistic urge satisfied.

I've seen these. Dead Alive is the best of the bunch there, it's a really fun time. Session 9 and Cube are both pretty decent horror films of completely different types. I probably prefer Cube by a little bit, but they don't make very many horror films as atmospheric as Session 9 anymore.

On the other hand I didn't really want to watch most of what did get nominated. I'm glad you watched it though. I also liked the second segment more. But what I really liked about it was how what was revealed was even more interesting than what the mystery element made you wonder about. At least that's how I felt about it. A lot of material creates a really cool mystery, but once the mystery is gone it's not as interesting, if you know what I mean...

I bet Guapo has seen that, Zotis.

Possibly, but even for anime it is quite obscure. I haven't encountered many people even on the internet who have heard of it. So, I like spreading awareness of it's existence.

I bet Guapo has seen that, Zotis.

There exists 80,000 hours of anime* and I have only watched 2,000 hours. If you pick a random anime the probability that I have watched it is 2.5%.

There exists about 40,000 Hollywood movies available and I have watched about 1,600, if you pick a random Hollywood movie the probability I have watched it is 4%.

I have to watch a ton more anime before I can say that I am an anime buff. Way more than what I have watched so far. I know a higher proportion of famous Hollywood movies than about famous anime.

The difference is that in this forum nobody else besides me and Zotis among active posters watches anime regularly so I am like the one eyed in the land of the blind. I posted a guy from an anime forum who watched 40,000 hours of anime. Now that's a real specialist in the field who has watched exactly 51% of all hours of anime in existence according to that same database. He watched about as much anime as MarfF watched hollywood movies.

*that's the number of hours of anime in the MyAnimeList.com database.

Well, that's a crap magazine as at least two of the choices aren't even horrors.

Guap: Scotland isn't a place where drug addicts climb out of toilets. What's your point? Like I said, it's not supposed to be an ad. If anything, it's placed in Brazil because it's thought of as a party heaven/paradise, with wonderful people, lots of sunshine and clear sandy beaches.. And cheap booze. It's meant to be this idyllic paradise and it becomes a nightmare.

Thanks Swan :).

I thought this would be the best place to put this. I've been in the mood for Horror movies lately, and i noticed Witchfinder General is on both the BBC IPlayer and the Horror list. So has anyone seen it, and would you recommend it?
I don't like it very much, at least, I didn't the last time I watched it. However, it's a well regarded horror film and if you like the look and feel of The Wicker Man and, especially, The Blood On Satan's Claw, then it's worth looking at.

Its certainly worth a watch however I wasn't overly keen on it. Like Swan said though, almost anything Price is in is worth seeing. Unlike HK, i preffered it to The Blood on Satan's Claw, which i just couldn't get into. Enjoy.

You can't call this a Horror Crew if all the members haven't seen some Fulci. Homework assignment for the "Crew" is to watch Zombie and The Beyond. You can follow up with The New York Ripper if you are feeling extra sleezy.

I've seen Zombie. I have a Zombie shirt. I have The New York Ripper too, but have yet to watch it.

My dad had this limited edition DVD of The Beyond too, but he sold it on eBay. I've never forgiven him.

Awww, look at young Swan and JJ, back when they were first becoming buddies.

We should do a Horror Crew "Watch" list. Everyone who is a member submits a film .. we randomly draw one a week and we watch it for that week only and give a review of it.. they did this similar on another horror forum I belonged to.

That would be cool. JJ was talking to me about a similar idea he had. I'd be down.

We would do it for each member to have a turn .. like week #1 would be Swans film, Week #2 would be Derek's.. etc..

Something like this tho.. I would actually put a limitation on what to watch and not watch... I mean, yeah I could come up with some really sick films but its not for everyone.. so it would just be a horror factor and not an extreme cinema factor.

I would be willing to take the reins of it... as long as most are ok with it... and we would all help set the guidelines.. I prefer group participation than just dictatorship..

if it catches on, we could do rounds of it by decades so that gives us a wider movie view or by a series of decades. Like 1900 to 1939, 1940 to 1959, 1960 to 1979, etc... and each one would pick a film from those time periods...

A few days ago, I was telling Citizen that this is how the Hall of Fame threads should be done. I wish, anyway!

should we take a poll? or how do you think we should proceed?

This is how I look at it.

If we do it by decades such as 1900 to 1939, etc.. then perhaps at that time, the other members, who arent into such gore, could participate. There are many great horror films from the early decades. As we move further to the current, they dont have to participate but at least it would give them a chance to enjoy the crew "watchlist" as well.

I really like MovieGal's idea. I also agree we should stick to actual horror and try to avoid extreme cinema, A Serbian Film and Human Centipede are not for everyone. I know I'm not on movie forums much but I'd totally be willing to participate in this.
