Okay, so we're nailing down the last couple of owners for the league, but we've already got 12 and it's largely a formality at this point. Yay!

Two big things to deal with: draft time, and scoring changes. The first is the important one:

DRAFT TIME
We're shooting for one of these two days:

Sunday, August 11th, 1:30 PM
Sunday, August 18th, 1:30 PM
I'm leaning towards the latter, but I need to know ASAP who can do what. Feel free to express a preference, and hopefully a consensus emerges, but it's far more important to know whether or not either of them is an issue. So, if you can do both but prefer one, please say that.

SCORING
So, for those who are new to the league, we play pretty normally, but with a few small tweaks: PPR, 6 points per passing TD, and -2 points for INTs.

I'd like to suggest that we move to half-PPR. Or rather, move back; that's what he had for the league's first season. I like PPR fine but it does have the tendency to take over games and overwhelm a lot of other choices, especially now as passing has become more prevalent. I think half-PPR is a little more balanced.

I'd also like to add one more bench spot and/or an IR spot, potentially.

Neither strikes me as a huge deal either way, but I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks. :)

The 11th would be better for me, as I'll be leaving on the 19th for Paris and I'm assuming the day before will be a busy day of packing/getting ready. But I'll defer to the majority. If we do draft on the 18th, I'll make arrangements to be present or (worst case scenario) auto-draft.

TONGO
07-24-13, 12:32 PM
Either date works for me.

As for doing away with 1 PPR I dont know. I suggested this in the past to differentiate the two leagues (PPR Jungle), but I do know PPR is alot more fun so MoFos probably would enjoy PPR more. Ill hold off my vote on that unless it becomes necessary.

seanc
07-24-13, 12:39 PM
11th works better for me. I will be on vaca the 18th. I still would maybe be able to squeeze in the draft if majority would rather the 18th.

I would prob prefer 1/2 PPR

rauldc14
07-24-13, 12:47 PM
For the first time in ever, either date works for me!

I like the idea of the 1/2 PPR as well.

Whatever you decide is fine with me. I don't really have a preference.

Yoda

Get rid of the kicker!
Fine with me, but I've kind of just accepted that this will probably never happen. I made a few efforts to this effect and I remember there being resistance. Heck, I could've sworn you were one of the guys who wanted to keep them, even.

Powdered Water
07-25-13, 09:25 AM
Nah, that wasn't me. That was the other guy. And whatever times you guys come up with is fine. I'm open to any date. Switching back to half point ppr is fine too.

TONGO
07-25-13, 10:33 AM
I like kickers

TONGO
07-25-13, 11:59 AM
Also if I had to decide, I'm ok with a 1/2 PPR too. It would provide some difference between the two leagues.

Frightened Inmate No. 2
07-25-13, 02:58 PM
The 11th would be better for me, I think. I'm fine with either one, though. I don't really care which PPR we use, but I guess I prefer 1/2 PPR.

Yoda
07-25-13, 10:54 PM
So, everyone so far is cool with half-PPR (and I'm guessing you guys don't mind the minor roster alterations), and everyone's cool with either the 11th OR 18th, with a few of you preferring the 11th. Cool. I wasn't expecting that level of consensus, but it's awesome to have.

Yoda
07-29-13, 02:41 PM
Well, cool: everyone seems to be on board with pretty much everything. We're shooting for August 11th, half-PPR, and I added a bench spot. Woohoo.

Also, Dionne's in, and I just confirmed Dex (who was always likely but I hadn't heard from yet). So we're all locked in for 14 teams.

Looking forward to playing - thanks Yods

Yoda
07-30-13, 12:00 PM
Well, it's official: Dex and 7thson are all signed up, so we've got 14 teams again. Here they all are:

Mud Dogs (seanc)
Romoerotic Thoughts (jiraffejustin)
Legion of Boom (PW)
Beantown Champs (Piledriver/Pete)
850 (7thson)
Baseball is Stupid (DexterRiley)
show me the money! (rauldc14)
RG3scompany (Adamantium18/Adam)
Team Zissou (Fiscal)
PlasticPads&IronMen (TONGO)
Wyld Stallyns (Sleezy)
Sookie's Suckers (LTIZZY)
Clockwork Angels (Sedai)
11 Angry Men (Yoda)
That's 11 of 12 returning from last year, with two new players (seanc and jiraffejustin), and one previous owner (7thson) coming back from earlier seasons. Nice. :)

You know what I'm really looking forward to? Seeing how our now-three Pats fan owners draft. In years past the homerism has been covered by the fact that the Pats had lots of awesome fantasy players, so drafting them early didn't hurt them much. They've got a lot fewer awesome fantasy players this year, so...can you guys resist? ;)

Pats' aside, though, I think there are a good half-dozen players that are gonna go way too high in lots of drafts this year. Whose names I will not divulge beforehand, naturally.

TONGO
08-02-13, 12:27 PM
I usually blacklisted all Patriots for my fantasy lineup each year. This season I will go in with no such prejudice. Having said that, Im still really hoping I dont get Brady. Running up the score is awesome for fantasy purposes, but gawd I hate it!

Yoda
08-04-13, 11:38 AM
The draft is one week from today, people. One week. Sunday, August 11th, 1:30 PM Eastern Time. That's 10:30 AM for you West-Coasters.

Am thinking about auto drafting this year. I seem to have a far better knack for drafting baseball teams than football. I'll be around though, so most likely I'll be there live.

Ive never won the MoFo Fantasy Football league championship nor have I been to it. Neither have some other old timers, but Im gonna focus in on this particular season like a cross between Mr. Spock & Ace Rothstein (Deniro in Casino. Characters real nickname in real life was Lefty. Go figure.) Uh, so yeah, Im gonna have incredible focus this year.

No more Patriot blacklist, gonna be more choosy in trades, not give away the farm, and it would be a good idea to not trade away my first round draft pick again. Always have, usually netting me at least 2 good starters, but regardless of that math I must discard that strategy as Ive never won in the big show.

The idea of the name "PlasticPads&IronMen" is kind of a ripoff of an old strategy boardgame with 19th century naval ships "Wooden Ships & Iron Men". Love that name, and my slogans from the Russell Crowe flick "Master And Commander". "Run like smoke and oakum!", what that means Im not completely sure. Has a nice ring to it though and at least sounds like its got some balls to it. Hell, the children in that movie were harder than I think I'd be! :yup:

Hey thanks for the tip I'll definit...hey, wait a second. I know what you're doing. I think.

jiraffejustin
08-09-13, 11:28 AM
I'm used to playing on ESPN, never played on Yahoo. Is there any major differences I should be aware of? Also, will we know the draft order before draft day? And do we have any rules regarding the waiver wire/free agency that is out of the norm?

Yoda
08-09-13, 11:35 AM
Well, the Yahoo draft room is way, way less advanced than ESPN's, but that's about it. We learn the draft order about 30 minutes before the draft, and it's randomly determined.

We use a rolling waiver priority list. I've played on ESPN as well and I don't think it's out of the norm, no, but just to be safe you might wanna browse the help section (http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=product&y=PROD_SPORTS_FAN_FOOTUS&locale=en_US&pir=IhXxogxibUkVz7SUY4xX0mXq.jNN52t6FujnUYlR1tRq4LvTA2FEUBdVgDVz8HE-), too.

Oh, and I moved the trade waiting time from 2 days to 1, like we have in baseball this year. I think we got a lot of calls for this last year so just lemme know if there's any objection; I'm assuming there won't be, though. Though as always, remember that it's 1 day AFTER the trade is accepted. So if you accept something Saturday night, it won't go through until Monday.

jiraffejustin
08-09-13, 11:38 AM
That all sounds good, and pretty much exactly like I'm used to playing. The trade waiting time thing being 1 day is awesome, I really hate waiting for trades to go through.

Yoda
08-09-13, 11:50 AM
Yeah, and that kinda thing is what seems to vary from league to league most. I think the league is attentive enough that a full day after acceptance should be enough for people to review and vote accordingly if need be.

Sedai
08-09-13, 12:04 PM

Okay, so, we have a last-minute drop out (Adam). I've been sending some messages around to try to find a last-second replacement. If any MoFos reading this are still interested, you have until tonight (or early tomorrow morning) at the latest to throw your hat in.

Ditto for anyone already in the league who has a friend who wants in and who they can vouch for as being a) dedicated to running a good team and b) reasonably experienced, so as to keep the competitiveness high.

Please reply ASAP either way. This could be gone quickly.

Yoda
08-11-13, 11:37 AM
By the by, I'm going to try to get another, more casual league going so I can still play with Adam (it'd be a bummer if we weren't in any of the same leagues), so if anyone's looking for one more to play in (probably 10-12 at the most), let me know via post comment or PM or whatever, we might need people. :)

I know I've said this before, but one of the best things about having 14 teams (other than forcing everyone to look well beyond the stud players, obviously) is that everybody plays everybody else exactly once in the regular season, which is perfect.

That, and it lets you do 6 playoff teams (less than half, but not way less, whereas with twelve teams 4 feels like too few and 6 feels like too much), which lets you do bye weeks. Really excellent setup, schedule-wise.

Yoda
08-11-13, 12:48 PM
Just a friendly reminder, as well, to visit the league site (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/2013/f1/209748) this morning and test-load the draft room in advance. If you have problems, trying to load it in another browser often helps.

Sleezy

Homer tab!

Seds: 0 (!) Pats.
LT: 2 Pats.
Fiscal: 3 Falcons (two starters).
PW: 0 Seahawks! Probably because of...
Tabithia: 6 Seahawks (all starters)!
TONGO: 3 Bucs (all starters).
Yoda: 1 Steeler.
Sleezy: 3 Vikings (all starters).
Pete: 3 Pats (two starters).
Dusty: 3 Packers (two starters).

One note about the above: the majority of these teams have their hometown kicker, which is admittedly less consequential.

I'm a Cowboy fan, but homerism didn't play into my draft picks. I got 2 of them. I love Longhorn players. I drafted two former Longhorns. I didn't really want to draft Miles Austin, but where I got him at I feel it was worth it. And to be fair, I was really wanting to draft Romo, but he was taken earlier in the same round that I was going to pick him.

Sleezy
08-11-13, 08:29 PM
Yeah, first time I've drafted #1 overall. I prefer drafting in the middle somewhere, so you have a more consistent shot at players. I had to reach on a few as a result. Will likely be open to trades.

I am a Steelers fan first and a Colt and Broncos fan next. When Manning went to the Broncos it was awesome for me in that regard. Manning (not injured) always puts up points overall. It makes for a fun season as well as possible fireworks or down right gutter ball - I love the roller-coaster.

Yeah, I agree. Drafting in the middle gives you the best chance to capitalize on any players who fall too far. At the ends, you pretty much have to reach on people you know won't come back around, and any steals that fall to you are incidental.

Plus, from what I've read higher draft picks are just more valuable in general; the snake format doesn't totally mitigate it.

I've had rotten luck on that front, drafting at or near the back in 5 of the 6 years we've had this league now.

I don't really have 1 favourite team. I only started watching the NFL when Warren Moon left to play for the Oilers. There are certain teams that play a run-n-gun CFL style that i prefer to watch absolutely.

Superbowl pick would be Falcons vs Texans (Falcons win).
