View Full Version : Rate the last album you've heard
Mr Minio

Well, since there's "Rate the last movie you saw" topic I thought it would be cool to have quite similar thread in terms of music. I believe the title is self-explanatory. Just note you can rate more than one album in one post.
Here we go:
Peste Noire - Ballade Cun^tre lo Anemi francor (2009) - 3.5
http://i45.tinypic.com/348fxuu.jpg
It's the second Peste Noire album I've listened to, but I've heard a lot of single songs on YouTube before. The first one I've listened to, Folkf^uck Folie, I give 3. It's noticeably inferior to this record, but I like its artwork more. Ballade Cun^tre lo Anemi francor is way more interesting, introducing weird, medieval chants and woman vocals. The parts, in which the screeching vocals of Famine accompany the aforementioned female vocals are really something. There's a portion of oddly produced shrieks in a form of a rather short track somewhere in the middle of the record, but it didn't kill the enjoyment of listening to the record, in which the rawness and melody are combined in quite peculiar but interesting style. Will be listening this again. I don't deny it could be an 4 album.
EDIT: This censorship is horrible. If you don't like us to swear then just say you're gonna warn us for doing so, but that's the situation where I can't even type the name of the album. In the first situation it's a word "f.u.c.k'" combined with another word. In the second situation it's way more pathetic, as the bot (?) finds a word "c.u.n.t" in a word "C.u.n.t.r.e".

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_OYGRPHhYp_E/SfiR0ex6EpI/AAAAAAAABjI/gQTu35ZGVSU/s320/EastCoastAvengers-PrisonPlanet.jpg
Haven't listened to the whole album yet, but I do love it so far. It's not un-patriotic even though some will depict it as so, but it isn't scared to speak against the system. It was released in 2008, and was strongly concerned with the election, so I'm behind in listening to this, but it still has its relevancy. The songs are all similar but I leave the beat transitions and messages with in the lyrics. The rap is powerful and thought provoking. My favorite song so far is Lady Liberty.

The Avalanches - Since I Left You
I rate this 3 because there's only a few standout tracks and the rest kind of blurs together, so it's not exactly a bad album but as far as 60-minute albums go there's not enough interest to allow it a higher score.

It's a good album, but it's not as great as many claim it to be. "Return of real hip hop" talk. I didn't like Swimming Pools or Poetic Justice. Art of Peer Pressure was amazing, and the rest was somewhere in the middle. We will see if Kendrick can keep growing though, he is determined.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter since you appear to be banned, but my main beef with Since I Left You is that it's quite honestly rather boring. "Frontier Psychiatrist" is the only song that sticks out with its borderline-novelty collage of vocal samples and the rest kind of sinks into this bland summery sample-heavy hip-hop. If anything, 3/5 is kind of generous really.
It's meant to create a mood, but it's not my kind of record either. Still. i'd give it 4.

So far I've heard a lot of negative things. Mostly, negative things. All the positive things I've seen so far are like "AMG I LOVE IT SOSOSOSO MUCH SO EPIC <3333333". You're basically the first person who is kind of middle-of-the-road, yet a 7/10 is still pretty damn high.
I will probably never bother with it. Have never been much of a Daft Punk fan.

Avalanches, b-boring? 3/5 k-kinda generous? W-wot m8?
To be precise, when I call it "boring" I'm mainly complaining about the lack of variety. It starts off pleasantly enough with the title track but then I realise that nearly every track after that sounds virtually the same to me. No matter how well-produced the songs may be, they just don't do anything to engages me. The fact that all the tracks continuously flow into one another without any real breaks only adds to my feeling that most of them sound way too similar and I basically zone out until "Frontier Psychiatrist", then once that's over it's back to more of the same and then the album ends. It gets 3/5 mainly on the basis that it's well-produced and that "Since I Left You" and "Frontier Psychiatrist" are pretty good by themselves, but otherwise it's kind of a drag.

Funny youre saying its musically most interesting. Id say the opposite. Many of the songs like Get lucky are very uninteresting and just very mainstream, especially given that Daft Punk have been one of the pioneers of house before. Homework is way more interesting than this... just a pretty basic pop album.

I've stated before that I have no problems with "Van Hagar", and this is certainly their finest hour. The three synthy, brilliant singles (Dreams, Why Can't This Be Love, Love Walks In) are the highlights and the tight rockers (Best Of Both Worlds, Summer Nights and the title track) sound just as fun as the Lee Roth years. The only problem is that sometimes the synth-dominated ballads don't mix well with the straight up rock stuff, but most of the time it works and 5150 remains one of the band's best albums, not just for the Hagar era, but in general (it would probably the best, in my opinion, if their amazing debut didn't exist).
I'm going for the middle ground and saying musically its quite interesting, somewhat different to their previous output, and kind of less ambitious.

This album has been run roughshod over since the day it was released. Its critics lambaste it for not sounding like a KISS record, which isn't entirely true - many of the songs on this album have a similar feel to the group's cuts that feature Criss prominently, (think "Nothin' To Lose," and "Mainline"). Probably due to the (much-deserved) success of Beth, Criss has never been recognized as the fine r&b/soul vocalist he truly is, and more than any other member of the band, he went into the studio to produce the album he couldn't make within the confines of KISS. With a rasp somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and Rod Stewart, Criss tempers the expected ballads with equal doses of rock and funk. Opener "I'm Gonna Love You" is a first-rate soul stomper, complete with punchy horns and Supremes-style back-ups. "Easy Thing" and "I Can't Stop the Rain" are big, epic love songs that Criss and his sandpaper lungs deliver beautifully, and his snappy version of "Tossin' & Turnin'" holds its own.
KISS were at the height of their popularity when the solo projects were released, and Criss could easily have stuck with the tried and true and been assured of strong sales. Daring to be different requires guts and should be commended, especially when the end result is a fine album such as this.

Burzum - Filosofem (1996)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/pt/a/a1/Filosofem.jpg
Now, who has never heard about Varg? That infamous black metal persona, the church arsonist and eventually a murderer, even though he always stated it was just a self-defense, spent some time in prison recording ambient passages, but before that he was a black metal musician - trv and kvlt to the core. After a hiatus lasting a decade or so, he decided to record music again and managed to spit out a couple of records in the last few years. One of them, Fallen, I found a really catchy take on atmospheric black metal aesthetics. It wasn't as well received by the die-hard fans as it isn't as cold and snow-coated as Varg's pre-prison era efforts, though. Varg is a very controversial guy and it's one of the reasons I've been keeping away from his music for so long, but all in all, it's just a music and listening to it doesn't mean I agree with musician's beliefs, so I decided to familiarize myself with arguably a very influential black metal musician. There was Fallen and now it's the time for Filosofem.
Apart from all that controversial ballyhoo, the music itself is pretty intriguing as well. The first track that kicks in has to be my favorite of the whole album. With its raw heavily distorted riffs and repetitious, almost hypnotic, atmosphere, Dunkelheit is a perfect harbinger of what comes next. And it's not an easy listen. Especially for people new to the genre of black metal. Varg throws his idea of what black metal is right in front of you and does not promise anything. Not only will a listener encounter an unpleasantly sounding noise and dregs of something to be called music, but also will have to endure a 25-minutes-long ambient track in the middle of the CD. If in the right mood, he will shortly discover a beauty hidden in those abrasive, austere notes and will be rewarded with even more of them. Personally, I've listened to more supposedly ugly albums and been able to find an element of beauty in them, but Filosofem is not a bad example of this. Lasting for over an hour, the album is a drag, but so am I...
Right now I feel like giving it a strong 3, or weak 3.5. I also believe that given more listens, this CD may grow on me, but the question is: Will I desire to return to this inhospitable, frost-bitten world? Time will tell.

It's been awhile since I listened to this album, I remember it fondly, so a revisit was in order. I think I might have overrated it because of how much I love "Shutterbugg."
This album would have benefited from better hooks. I wasn't really feeling most of them, and the hook on "Follow Us" ruins the song entirely. If weren't for these hooks, this album would be a bona fide masterpiece.
Tracks 5-8 are fantastic and make this album worth listening to. "Daddy Fat Sax" belongs in that category as well. "Shutterbugg" is by far the best track on the album, and a contender for best song of 2010. Yelawolf deserves a shoutout for his two best verses ever, both on "You Ain't No DJ." I usually don't like that guy, but somehow his schtick worked in the context of the song.

I love this album so much. It's my favorite rap album, maybe my favorite album period. There's nothing I dislike about it. Every person Kanye recruits to join him on this masterpiece steps their game up. Nicki Minaj kills it. How often do you get to say that?
Kanye's sample game has always been top-notch, but the sampling of "21st Century Schizoid Man" on "POWER" melts my brain every time it screeches off the wax.
That piano on Runaway though. I wanna make love to this album.

14. I Got Bitches - 4 - Lil B does something like sing-wail-rap over the "Dirty Diana" instrumental. It's amazing. One of only two humorous songs that hit. (by the way, this isn't the only song called "I Got Bitches" by Lil B. I think he has a bunch of songs with that same title as a joke, but I don't know what is real anymore.)
15. The Summer (Interlude)
16. The Summer - 2.5
17. Violate That Bitch - 1
18. T-Shirt & Buddens - 4 - A surprisingly good diss song.
19. Like A Martian - 2
Lil B is so prolific that it's impossible for all of his releases to suck, or for all of his releases to be good. He's also an enigma, an anomaly to be sure. He is the most polarizing figure in rap, or perhaps that's not that the correct way to put it. It's hard to tell if people who claim to like him really do. There's people who ironically love the self-proclaimed Based God, there's people who legitimately love him, people who started out ironically loving him and got tired of the schtick, and then there's the people who think he is just trash. I don't fall in any of those categories, but I think most people who've listened to him do.
This particular mixtape isn't one of his good ones. This tape is missing any of his surprisingly deep serious songs ("No Black Person is Ugly" is a good example.) Not much of his attempts at humor hit either, really. I think the overuse of the word "swag" is meant as a joke, but it's hard to tell if B is in on the joke or if the joke is on us or if there is a joke at all. If Lil B is meaning to be funny, he's the best at deadpan delivery in the rap game.
I am going to listen to some more of his mixtapes/albums, I am hoping that this is an outlier on the bad side.

You can probably tell by the song titles that this was going to be a dumb album (mixtape, but whatevs.) You are right, it's pretty dumb. A lot of people hate Nicki Minaj, and they make a lot of good points when they criticize her music. She does have some pretty good things going for her though, she seems to understand how to make a good pop-rap single. She understands that the more novel her song is, the more people will be interested in it. Just check out her latest single, "Anaconda," I don't think it's great, but I do think it will make her a pretty penny. I do like some of her songs not on this mixtape. Her features on Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy are all fantastic, but you could probably dismiss those because it's like a great director getting a good performance out of a bad actor. Or so it seems. I think Nicki is talented, but she just doesn't write very well, or maybe she just disappoints me here because how much potential I think she actually has. Songs like "Come On a Cone" and "Beez in the Trap" are both examples of fun pop songs, and even if she doesn't live up to the potential that I (perhaps falsely) believe she has, I'd still prefer more songs of that ilk than what we usually get from her.

Well, what can I say. It's better than his debut, but still not that great an album. I can see why people love it, though. I expected it to be more experimental and playful given the abstract painting on the cover. The songs are pretty low-key, sad, melancholic, but with a shimmer of hope*. It can be a grower, indeed, but I don't feel like listening it over and over.

When Lindberg left Pennywise back in 2010 to go on to do something different in The Black Pacific many people were either not happy or thought "what change?" as BP sounded so much like Pennywise any way, that was to be expected, when you spend that long in a band they are bound to bring over some of their influences from another band.
I had not heard of any Pennywise material since the split but hearing a new song by them from the above album on a podcast re-ignited it for me. This may be a album that is similar to everything they have done before but you know what? I am okay with that because I love them for it to begin with.
The thing I love about Pennywise is even if I have not heard them in ten years I love them as much as I did the first time I heard them.

All this damn emo punk music is bringing me down for real. Again, I liked the vocals despite how gay Mr Minio thinks they sound (he's wrong). My favorite tracks are See How Tame I Can Be! and Drainage. I also never expected to ever hear an emo/punk cover of Video Killed The Radio Star but I liked it. It's way better than the original. That song was meant to sound angry and depressing!!!!!! This album's even shorter than their self-titled and is only 13 minutes long. Absolute punk gave it 92% and I think it's well-deserving of that. Great album.

"Every dollar in my pocket Ima spend it all"
What would you call this type of music? I was thinking something like "gangsta crunk party trap rap" or something. It's just Waka Flocka and his homeboys throwing gang signs in the club and drinking, smoking, and all the other hype stuff. Waka never really seems concerned with making album for himself, for the public, or for critics. This is just for the squad. The proof of my theory is that I've never heard of most of the dudes on the features. They are all members of Waka's Bricksquad apparently though. Don't expect any kind of deep lyricism from these dudes, but you can expect some good lines. Mainly about being loyal to his homies, banging chicks, smoking, drinking, busting fools, and other stuff you wish you could be doing instead of what you are doing. Plus all the beats are dope. They make the album what it is, all the hyperactivity of the dudes yelling and making weird noises fit right in with the banging beats.
I just read a review of this album where the dude gave almost every track a 0 or a 1/2 star. Hahahaha. I can kind of understand where the dude is coming from, but I feel like he doesn't get it. Some dudes can't just give into viscera I guess. I am throwing up gang signs and kicking holes in the wall rn.

Who's Next by The Who.
I was influenced to revisit this album from someone else's rating of it. The Who has every element that makes a great band, and I think they really were a great band, and yet they've never been a favorite. However, I really do like this album, but not as much as I just respect it. "Bargain" is probably my favorite song, though years ago I had "Going Mobile" on a compilation I used to listen to constantly. "Baba O'Riley" is the type of song that I'd acknowledge as a great song, while it just seems tedious after more than a couple times hearing it, and that's sort of what I feel about The Who.
My rating: A
Tommy
The whole rock opera concept that Townsend was fascinated with just strikes me as boring, and thus I can't get into this album. I've seen the movie, more than a couple decades ago, and listening to this album now, I can't help but wonder why they bothered with such a thin, silly project. Of course, as an indifferent fan of The Who I recognize I'm not getting it, but if I were to rate the album simply from my personal enjoyment of it, I'd give it a somewhat generous: C+, the "plus" for "Pinball Wizard."
I am interested in exploring their other albums, particularly The Who Sell Out and Who Are You.

B.B. King saw the king in him, so why can't you?
Lyrically, K.R.I.T. is on a level unattainable by most. He's almost up there with Killer Mike and Kendrick Lamar. Musically, the beats have this real laid back vibe. It's southern beats 101, it's no surprise that there is a chopped & screwed version of this album out.
My favorite thing about K.R.I.T.'s lyricism is how reflective it always is. It's one thing to be aware of the world around you, but if you can look inside yourself and see something, that's far more impressive to me. K.R.I.T. is really good at that, he's more in tune with his emotions than other rappers. Or at least he's just not afraid to share that side of himself. He doesn't neglect the rest of the world though, he makes sure to talk about it. In particular Black America. Two of the best songs on the track feature lyrics of some importance to black culture: "2000 & Beyond" and "As Small As a Giant." K.R.I.T. also talks about his belief in God and the way he feels about preachers preaching for a profit. It's really good stuff in here. I always feel like I have more to say about albums that are of less significance or quality than I do about great and/or important albums. The music speaks for itself though.

The Beards - The Beards
Absolutely horrible excuse for a novelty album. Basically amounts to four bearded white guys performing a bunch of songs about beards and how having them is awesome while not having them makes you comparable to Hitler. (Kanye West; 2013) 5
Kanye said in an interview that he really wanted to work on his drums for this album, he must have been really angry while doing this. The drums are so aggressive and confrontational, they are right in your face (ears) trying to fight you. For no reason, you aren't even the cause of their anger. They don't care. You are there. You are guilty by your presence alone. "Come at me, bro!" They exclaim. You are frightened. You freeze. You can't move. The drums overtake you. You lie on the ground, a crumpled heap.

I listened a random song from this Wu-Tang Clan CD and it starts with two blockheads thinking up some insults. I thought it's not the actual thing, because, I mean, is it possible to be so low? But then the music started and it only got worse. :P Oh, yeah, it's rap. :P
Okay, I listened another one and it starts with some guys screaming some swearwords... again. Then the actual music starts and is quite aggresive for a rap song. A little bit better than the previous one, but still not liking it. Another song starts with some shaolin commentary from a movie or something and then we get the same old sh*t.

O.J. Simpson
(Guilty Simpson; 2010) beats - 4.5, Richard Pryor sampling - 5, overall rating - 3
Madlib produces this, and if you know anything about Madlib you know that the production on this record is going to be ace. Guilty Simpson is fine as an emcee, but the album ends up being all about the beats. He can't really match-up with the quality of the production, and it's a bit distracting. There's also too many skits, it's hard to stay in the music because it's constantly being interrupted with little sketches. There's just too much going on and not enough rapping over killer beats. It's too disjointed to be a classic, but it's still worthwhile.
Oh yeah, Madlib samples Richard Pryor. So, kudos for that.

Can I have some jazz recommendations, bluedeed? I've pretty much only listened to Miles Davis, and just bits and pieces of Ellington, Monk, Mingus, and Brubeck. The only jazz musician that I would claim to know anything about is Miles Davis, and I don't really know all that much about him either.

How much Davis have you heard, JJ? Obviously Kind of Blue is as good a starting point as any and 'Round About Midnight is another good album in that vein. I do like Davis's later stuff where he goes into fusion territory - In A Silent Way is a good introduction to that side of Davis and Bitches Brew is a real jump off the deep end, plus On the Corner and A Tribute to Jack Johnson are also good albums.
Aside from Davis...well, John Coltrane is another essential musician to get into. A Love Supreme is his best album and a good introduction to his work - I'd also recommend Giant Steps and My Favourite Things. In regards to Mingus, The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is the best but Mingus Ah Um is probably a better introductory album.
Some other favourites:
Moanin' - Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers
Karma - Pharaoh Sanders
The Shape of Jazz to Come - Ornette Coleman
Back on-topic, last album I listened to was either The Real Thing or Angel Dust by Faith No More. Both of them would be about 4 in any case (though Angel Dust might be on its way to being 4.5, but not yet).

Iroqouis had some good recommendations (and I agree with his recommendation for a starting point with Mingus). Duke is obviously essential, Far East Suite is one of my favorites of his. Kind of Blue is essential as well. In addition to those, here are some of my favorite jazz musicians with one or two albums to check out:
Bill Evans - Explorations, Everybody Digs Bill Evans
Charles Mingus - Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus, The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Dave Brubeck - Time Out, Jazz Impressions of Japan
David Newman - Fathead
Dexter Gordon - Go!
Oscar Peterson - Oscar Peterson Trio Plus One
Paul Desmond - Bossa Antigua
Stan Getz - Getz/Gilberto, Stan Getz and the Oscar Peterson Trio, Getz Au Go Go
Thelonious Monk - Monk's Dream, Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane
Among those, I'd say the first Stan Getz and Dave Brubeck are the best for the uninitiated, and my favorites among them are the Monk, Mingus, and Getz

The reason English still feels like an obstacle is you don't use it too often. Try using it more often and it will no longer feel odd. Honestly, when it comes to movies, I write much, much more about them in English than Polish and a couple of days ago when I was asked to write something about them in Polish it felt weird. Not like I forgot my native language, not that it was hard, it was just a different feeling. A matter of getting used to, I guess. All in all, try adding some write ups about these albums!

You're Dead (Flying Lotus, 2014) - rating_5
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f145/ifiswan/7b698197-4196-445f-8ea9-3461a43fab68_zps6c0dff36.jpg
Flying Lotus progressively gets better with every album he puts out. You're Dead is his best yet. With this album he adds jazz into the mix, creating a tasty salad of jazz, electronic and rap. Truly a master of his medium.
This year has had amazing output with regards to some of my favorite artists. Beck with Morning Phase, Alt-J with This is All Yours, Aphex Twin with Syro, and now Flying Lotus with You're Dead. What's next? A new Pink Floyd album?
So apparently, with this new album Flying Lotus was influenced by the soundtrack for Fantastic Planet. How f*cking cool is that?
What else inspired you?“La Planète Sauvage,” the soundtrack from this French animated film, “Fantastic Planet.” I think the composer’s name is Alain Goraguer. I was really feeling the melodies and the vocal textures. There’s a lot of references to it on my album, especially on “Siren Song” and “The Beyond,” which are like sister songs to me.http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/12/arts/music/the-composer-flying-lotus-picks-some-of-his-favorite-albums.html?_r=1

Vince Staples - Hell Can Wait EP
I've been waiting for this one since "Blue Suede" and "Hands Up" dropped. Those two songs are straight fire. The rest of the EP compliments them well. Vince Staples is obviously talented and the dude is on the come up. I could see him dropping an album that gets beaucoup plays out of me. Hell Can Wait is good enough to get some play, but I am feeling something bigger could be on the horizon. If you have 24 minutes to spend and you like rap, you could do worse than giving this a spin.

Sleater-Kinney - Call the Doctor
One of the band's earliest albums that is a little rough around the edges (and not quite in a deliberate way) but it's a solid piece of indie rock. Don't think it'll challenge The Woods for my favourite SK album any time soon, though.

The Replacements - Tim
Excellent album on just about every count. Even the weaker tracks like "Swingin' Party" and "Lay It Down Clown" are still decent. There's still plenty of stand-out tracks - "Hold My Life" is as close to perfect as an opening track can be, "Kiss Me on the Bus" is nice and sweet while "Dose of Thunder" is short and sharp. "Bastards of Young" is rightly considered the band's signature song, while "Here Comes A Regular" is as powerful a closing track as one could ask for.

One of the '80's finest pop albums. I'm not going to say it's perfect, but it gets a lot of points for FYC experimenting with so many different styles (they even try their hand at Springsteen on "Don't Look Back") and delivering some instantly memorable tracks, most of which being the iconic "She Drives Me Crazy".
And it sounds a thousand times better on vinyl.

MIND = BLOWN. I don't know why, but I thought it's a hip-hop album. Apparently, it's not and only has some glimpses of hip-hop. In fact it's a bit*chin' combination of wonky and jazz fusion with very dreamy, watery and chilling melodies and occasional vocals. All the songs are short and sweet.

At this point, I'd take a throwaway Frankie track. Just give us anything, Frankie! I don't know if that tracklist is legit, but it would be interesting to see what kind of song we'd get with the Drake and The Weeknd features. "Songs for Women (Part 2)" is also a track that I'd be interested in hearing for sure.

The Endless River - Pink Floyd
This is Pink Floyd's first new album since 1994's The Division Bell - surviving members David Gilmour and Nick Mason eschew brand-new material in favour of reworking demos and unfinished tracks from the Division Bell sessions, primarily out of respect to deceased keyboardist Richard Wright. Considering how the general consensus is that Pink Floyd's output took a massive downturn in quality with the departure of Roger Waters, what kind of album do they expect to make from material they didn't consider good enough for what ended up being one of their worst albums?
For one thing, there are barely any vocals - anthemic closer "Louder Than Words", which has synth strings straight out of "Comfortably Numb", is the exception. The tracks vary in quality - a lot of them are short interludes that definitely sound half-finished - and mostly you're going to be picking apart all the similarities to different parts of Floyd's back catalogue. It's mostly lilting ambient stuff, though there is the occasional break such as the chugging hard rock of "Allons-y" or the sampling of a certain world-famous astrophysicist in "Talkin' Hawkin'" (an obvious sequel to "Keep Talking"). Even so, it can stretch a listener's patience with its lack of variety and stand-out tracks.
This is supposedly going to be Floyd's official last album ever, and as far as farewell albums by long-running bands go I suppose it could be worse. A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell were definitely the band's worst albums, but even so I didn't mind them too much and at least the latter's dramatic final track "High Hopes" seemed like the ideal capper to the career of one of the world's biggest rock bands. No matter what good qualities this album does have, it still feels fundamentally inessential but I can't bring myself to hate it.

I have been listening to Slipknots new album over the last few days and it is very good, Im enjoying it. Missed being able to get tickets for them next January when they are playing in Cardiff. But I have just seen they are headlining Download festival again next year so im hoping me and my wife can go up there for the day. Either way their new album is awesome.

Pink Floyd - Endless River
6/10 (in context of Pink Floyd)
Compared to other new albums, 10/10
I think the music industry has suffered even more than the film, technological reasons, and the lack of great music.
After hearing the single for the song, and the only one with lyrics, I thought it wouldn't be a good album at all, also considering I didn't like the last two they released. And I didn't have "High Hopes" because I knew this was over 20 years old, the leftover material, which ordinarily would lead me to believe if it wasn't good enough to make it on the last album, that they were just releasing it because anything with the title "Pink Floyd" will sell so many albums.
I love instrumentals, and Rick Wright shines with his piano, organ, electric keyboard, synths, it's enjoyable to listen to.

Possibly their most polarising album, Slang also stands as one of Def Leppard's weakest. That doesn't mean it's a bad album; their experimentation with a different, more funk-inclined and aggressive sound is admirable, but their songs just don't have the craft or the hooks of their '80's stuff.
