View Full Version : MoFo Fantasy Baseball - The 2013 Regular Season
Tulo came back.
Heyward left the game with an injury.
The Disabled List should have a revolving door on it.
Derek Jeter is nursing his tight quad, and now has a stomach bug. Now hes got the flu too!
Whoa I was able to get on! Site mustve been down for awhile.
Tim Lincecums no hitter - who knew?! I even leapt to waivers to see if he was available before finding out he was on PWs squad. Good for Timmy

Waiver wire snag of the year right there.
You have got to be kidding. Lincecum, has been TERRIBLE this year. Even he was surprised by his last start, acting like he was possessed or something. He will NOT do it again - I will put real money on that. Look at his ERA, even after a no hitter. Terrible. His last win before this was June 4th???
Let's talk in a month, when this no-hitter is a memory and his ERA is pushing 5 again. ;)
I am actually psyched someone thinks he is worth putting on their team. Have fun dropping pitching stats into the toilet, man! He sure destroyed mine!
Push for first Tongo, now is your chance man! Wilson 9 is playing Timmy! ;)
Oh, I mean....Damn...I sure wish I had kept that dominating SP!

The Great One taking the all-star field for the last time, and it was an awesome time to be a baseball fan. Poor audio on this vid though.

Yeah, it was a great moment.
Of course, Tim McCarver managed to ruin it during the next half-inning with his gushing (and his recitation of the lyrics to "Enter Sandman," which aren't really apropos of anything and work just because the song sounds cool). At one point he said Rivera was highly respected in the game (true) "has never been subject to criticism by anyone" (insane).
This is a guy who gets paid to talk for a living, mind you.

lol! Yeah they were quiet letting him enter the field, but when they started talking, boy you notice it.
This is a football story, but back in the day Jesse Ventura was an announcer on the local am radio station that would broadcast the Bucs games. He would give play by play on the radio, and say what you want about Ventura, but the man speaks, you listen, and want to. The point is when the game was on tv we would hit mute and turn on the radio. Awful that fans at a sports bar sometimes have more of an ability to engage an audience than commentators.

Team Report Card
C- S. Perez- Hey, he was an all-star this year. Though fantasy wise, still a bit disappointing, given the extreme raw talent he has C-
1B- Votto- Steady as they come for a 1B. The power has gone down since he's been on my team, but that's ok. B
2B- Uggla- It's either 0-4 or 1-4 with a solo home run generally. Sad thing is, there really isn't much more out there. D
3B- Encarnacion- If it weren't for Cargo, he'd be the team MVP. I don't see any signs of him slowing down in the 2nd half. A
SS- Simmons- utterly terrible, to be honest. And Rutledge is even worse. F
OF- Gonzalez- It's a shame the offense around him has crumbled lately. He may not keep his pace, but it's been a hell of a ride. A+
OF- Brown- Other than Puig, probably the best waiver wire pick up of the year. Guys still been highly underrated, and not sure how he's only 78% owned. B+
OF- Ozuna- The rook has been nothing but solid average wise, but he's hurt by playing on a bad team. I think his future may be bright, perhaps not in this 2nd half, but by next year for sure. D+
UTIL/Bench- Garbage. Joyce has provided some good games, but he's cooled down as of late. Arencibia has had his best games on my bench. Moustakas, whom I thought would be huge this year, has been a top 5 disappointment. Rutledge should be dropped. Starting to think that perhaps Wil Myers is not what he was made out to be, but it is far too early to make an accurate prediction on where his career is headed. D
STARTING PITCHING: Sadly, Verlander just hasn't been the same thing this year, but he did have one of his best starts his last game, so maybe it brings hope for the 2nd half. Patrick Corbin has been a beast, and a lot of people don't expect him to keep it going. I think he can keep it going. Shelby Miller has tailed off a bit, but I think he makes for a decent #2 or 3 pitcher for fantasy purposes, with a high K rate. Gonzalez and Tillman are rostered because they seem to provide a high percentage chance of winning in their starts. C
Relievers- Betancourt and Reed started off great, but ever since Balfour was traded when I had 3 closers neither has really been the same. C-
A few moves will need to be made for me to get into the middle of the standings, which is probably my ceiling at this point.
Some good news for Dexter! J.A. Happ strikes out seven in five scoreless rehab innings, and Alex Rodriguez homers in Triple-A rehab debut. Returning monday.
Also I just busted Izturis to waivers. Decided to go with Bostons fill in 2B Brock Holt.
Izturis aint gonna be hitting anything the next 3 days anyway :D
Derek Jeter to the 15 day DL. Ugh! For someone I drafted that I thought would be out 2-3 weeks...........Ugh!
C- Castro- His numbers are decent, but he's a catcher, and not an elite catcher, so he kind of blows. C
1B- David Oritz- The best power on my team. A
2B- Kendrick - He's cooling off after an above average first half. Hopefully he comes back refreshed. B-
3B- Carpenter - Great 3-stat guy with a bit of a power problem. I like him just fine, though. B-
SS- Andrus - This guy kind of sucks. Oh well. D
OF- Nava- He's been better than expected this year. B
OF- Rasmus- Stuck running this super inconsistent guy until my alleged studs come off the DL. He has some power, so i could do worse. C+
OF- Crawford - He was great early, and seemed to have bounced back from a bad season. Alas, he's back to his old tricks, and keeps ending up hurt on the DL. C
UTIL- Prado - This guy is an all-position sub who is pretty much a bust this year. Saw some signs of life in June, but now he has fallen off again and can't connect with the ball. F
UTIL - Kemp - he actually did fairly well for me when he played. Too bad he didn't play much, the bum. D-
STARTING PITCHING: I've turned it around, but the damage is done. I've gotten good stuff from all my starters the last couple of outings, and even gained a couple of pitching points. They need to be aces for the rest of the season, though. I am too far down in P stats to make a run at this point, methinks. C
Relievers- My RPs are great, but Paps has been shaky lately. B-
My team is pretty bogus at this point. :-/
Now Im feeling what you all went thru last season with big pitching stars delivering horrible eras & whips. Its sickening.
Sadly it'll keep me from having a chance to win the league. Jake Peavy sucks and if he keeps this crap up Im kicking him to the curb faster than a fat kid on a rusty pogo stick.
Report cards?! You want a report card?! I got a jabroni on my team that singlehandidly fudgepacked my stats and you better believe hes going to waivers!
Squad was hitting the ball, and I had a nice average well over .300, beating out that roadbump Vito on Avg and I was loving life, and I had only one batter left to go - Lyle Overbay.
0-6 WTF!?!? Bostons pitching aint that good you streaking fossil! AUGH!
The commentators sucked too. "The game is too easy for Robinson Cano." The weed must be good up north. hmph!

yeah Braun should send him a check.
Garza got traded to the Rangers. That will be very good for Texas, dammit.
Screw Ryan Brauns steroided arse. Let him rot in round 1 next year for all I care. Took a huuuuuuuuuge respect hit with the fans. Thats important cause Barry Bonds got snubbed by the hall of fame, and nobody cared. I got to think thats important to someone playing as they want to leave a legacy. He will have something to prove though. Be interesting if his ball falls off big time or not.

99.9% sure I inserted Tillman into my lineup, and somehow he's on my bench? Stupid. I think by Domonic Brown going to the DL it reset my lineup, which would be real stupid.
Ewwwww!!!! Loose Seals slotted CC Sabathia and he got butchered in the 2nd inning for 6 runs. Thats a big outchie hurtie to the era. Tomorrow I welcome CC to my squad.
Intersting is he will have alot of downtime before his next start, and boy does he need it! His next starts in San Diego on August 2nd, a whole week off. Then in Chicago vs the White Sox. If he doesnt click in those two games he'll just serve as a big pimple on my bench since hes on the Cant Cut List. Yknow everything looks bleak, the thing is, he is C.C. Sabathia.
Edit in - Oh I wish I could watch the Dodgers/Reds game cause Baileys up against Kershaw, 6th inning and neither have given up anything 0-0. Sweet!
I just want to watch this Stanton homer all day:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_07_26_pitmlb_miamlb_1&mode=video

I sure wish I could go back in time and force the Mariners NOT to trade Adam Jones. And boy o boy did that Erik Bedard guy work out for us too. Yikes!
Stanton goes deep again (and doubles), and Fernandez has an insane 13 Ks in 6 innings. Both against my Buccos, though. WHAT DO I FEEL?!

A happy stunted confusion and disappointment and all at the same time. Been there.
Decided no to CC Sabathia, especially since Jarred Cosart is doing now what I had hoped Sabathia will do. Jake Peavy wasnt helping my ERA or Whip, and I just dont have the innings left for an experiment with Sabathia vs the Padres & White Sox coming up. He's on waivers if anyone wants him. If hes not picked up I wont be surprised.
Yowza. Cole, Fernandez and Cingrani have combined for 32 Ks in 22 IP today.
Holy crap, the Pirates have won the first three games of their massive five-game series against the Cards, including sweeping a double header yesterday.

With a no-decision for Burnett, of course. Still, he looked sharp, punching out 9 batters.
What the...whoops! I posted a video game comment in the wrong damn thread. Removed!
Yadier Molina probably going to the DL.
Had a nice couple of weeks where everyone was pretty healthy, so I guess it was just a matter of time, heh. And at a position that you usually can't carry a backup, too.
The repercussions of the PED Biogenetic clinic are about to hit as the players union was notified today who will be suspended.
Heres the good news - "According to the reports, because Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera, A's pitcher Bartolo Colon and Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal will not be disciplined because they already have served suspensions for their violations related to the clinic and its former boss, Anthony Bosch. All three were suspended for positive PED tests last year."
The rest isnt so good.
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130731&content_id=55367988&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
Clayton Kershaw is everything I hoped he would be. Not often you actually get that big star in a trade, and he maintains his pace when they come on your roster. Sure money.
Longorias sucking. Kinda ironic being how the Rays had one of the best July records in 50 years. He has been having a rough patch, and Jennings hitting his flukey .250ish avg. Still better than BJ Upton! Sad I have to admit this but I had an impulse to bench Jennings for friday. After I hit accept roster, as soon as it finished my wrist (like a spring) went back to switching Jennings back in again.
Granderson comes back friday :):):) Oooooh boy do I need him. After a great surge to 95 points, Im falling fast. With Grandy all my offensive players are back now, and Cobb returns inside of 2 weeks.
Then in the next 2 months I'll see if it all pans out.
Bucs win again! My wife's co-worker gave us tickets at the last minute so we went; the Pirates came back from a 4-2 deficit and won 5-4. They've taken the first FOUR games of the series against what was previously the best team in baseball (that'd be us, now!), and they go for the sweep today.
Is this real life?
Minor with a 134/28 K/BB
:D
Kuroda: 7.0 0 0 8 0.00 0.86
Minor: 7.0 1 0 6 0.00 0.29
Those are the lines I want to see more often!
Two months left to go, so I just culled the pitchers that were 1.30+ WHIP. One of the harder stats to move at this point, I can't have guys like Dubront (1.41) or Kendrick (1.32) in my rotation. Finally, all my pitching stats aren't at 1! My ERA has been sinking slowly over the past couple of weeks.
Also, be prepared to snag speed clowns like Coco Crisp, who I will also ship to waivers (with a claim, so it will be a few days). My power is terrible, and Coco has almost none - it's time for some more aggressive moves at this point, I think.

Dude. If you can figure out what in the hell the Mariners are doing over there. Be my guest and explain it to me. I've been baffled by their moves for the better part of ten years now.
Grandy's back!

Hopefully minus the broken bat.
In case you all havent noticed, Yodas Ducks are surging. Having been near the bottom all season has created alot of points to easily earn moving forward now that his elite squads healthy. His offense and pitching is strong, and I think he may have a shot. He would have to maintain a torrid pace, but I think it very possible.
Mikeys way ahead right now though. Between PW, Mikey, maybe me, and I think Adam, Scott, or Tim might have a surge left to nudge up in there. This should be a much tighter race near the finish line compared to last year.
I noticed my team sucking, that's about it.
Heh, thanks Tongs. Yeah, huge night last night. And my team's been cranking out 2-3 homers for a handful of days in a row. I just needed to catch up in a few categories where I had big gaps before it finally started showing up in the standings.
My assessment earlier has definitely paid off, in that the team's been excellent since they've been healthy (and I'm still missing Cueto, who I might be willing to deal at a discount right now out of pure immediate need).
Fernandez has helped a lot. Over his last two starts he's throw 16 IP and with 27 Ks, just two earned runs, and a 0.56 WHIP. I actually ended up going back and re-calculating the WHIP because I thought I did it wrong when I first saw it, but it's actually less insane than that strikeout total.
http://i2.cdn.turner.com/si/dam/assets/130331112058-jose-fernandez-single-image-cut.jpg
I love picking up people nobody else thinks will do good. Especially like drafting those surprising keepers that had a warped perception going in. Well yalls perceptions were sound when it came to Derek Jeter. <<< Not enough sick smileys can convey the absolute worthlessness. Now theres an MRI saying his right calf is strained. HOW?! HE DIDNT DO ANYTHING! Frickin A-Rod will end up playing more major league games this season.
I have one of those! His name is Kemp!
Ugh, Everth Cabrera is done for the season after his 50-game suspension. I felt okay trading Colon for him, because I figured if one of them got suspended then the other one would too, but I didn't realize that Colon was safe because he was already suspended last year. So there goes my chance at gaining ground in steals! Off to the waiver wire, but Juan Pierre is just so depressing to have on a fantasy team.
I am gradually increasing my innings, though, although I'm still projected to finish 100 under the limit, so I should be able to climb the ranks in wins and strikeouts. I don't really think I have enough to get too high in the top 3 or so, but I think I can finish somewhere in the top 5.
Sorry to hear that Scott. I actually thought that if any suspensions were to take place it woulda been sooner.
Screw Jeter! I decided if hes gonna eternally be on the mend that Ill slot Zobrist as my shortstop, and split time at second between Omar Infante (high avg, and should be back soon), and Ryan Raburn (power) for whenever he plays. Ill probably end up better. Stupid Jeter. All season long I patiently waited for his return! All season! Thats just not right.
Sorry to hear that Scott. I actually thought that if any suspensions were to take place it woulda been sooner.
Haha, honestly, don't worry about it at all. I took the possibility of Cabrera being suspended into account when I traded for him and decided it was worth the risk. He should totally appeal though! The Padres still have a chance at the playoffs!...
Desmond Jennings ends up having a finger fracture after all, and is on the 15 day DL along with Jeter. His replacement is a blast from the past - Jason Bourgeois.

This kid was stealijng bases at a freakish rate in 2011, but managed to pull all his abdominal muscles at once causing his hot start to be the only bright spot of the season. Mostly was in the minors last year.
I need Avg and hes batting .292 plus I could use the 2 1/2 points to go from 11.5 to 14 in stolen bags. Every point counts :yup:

Leonys Martin has six steals in two days, and he's only in the fourth inning right now. If he stays anywhere close to this pace, and when I get Desmond Jennings, and with my pick-up of Will Venable, I should hopefully be able to move up a few spots in SBs, even though there is currently a huge gap between 3 and 4.
Just look out! The Clockwork Angels have left the Champeens in the dust, and are closing in on that coveted position: 9th!

Horrible outing for my crew last night. Dropping hard in the rankings, and alls I got is hope that it stops.
At seasons end if I dont finish near the top, I guess I wont be too hard on myself. It was a mighty long time I was dead last in the league, and so being at least in the top half with a league loaded with some badass teams is somethin'.

Jeremy Hellicksons available on waivers. I picked up Alex Torres who will do ERA reconstruction, but I just cant trust Helli enough this season, and theres the innings cap I must consider. I could run with 4 starters from here on out. This drop hurt.
It is fun to still have players that are desired on my team. yeah I am putzing around in the basement - but having others tell me how much "this trade" will help me makes me laugh. At this point I am riding and beating a dead horse, let me have fun doing that.
^^^^ I know hes not talking bout me cause my trade offers are better than sex ;)
_______
85 points :( Dammit. Its taken me a long while, but after this latest surge of so near the top to my current slide I have learned that FBB is a game of patience. Trying to slam/stream a bunch of pitchers to my roster, and with horrid success I may add, has doomed my chances. Maybe next year :( Dammit.
I can dig that, though the league works best when everyone tries their best to get as high as possible, even if they're playing for 9th instead of 1st. And if anything being in rough shape has the potential to be more pure fun, because you have a good excuse to blow up your team and try lots of new things!
Anyway, odds are looking good this year will be like last year: tons of injuries and bad starts early, followed by slowly digging out of the hole for months and finishing in the top 5. But we'll see.
Frightened Inmate No. 2
08-13-13, 02:05 PM
When I was towards the top of the pack, I knew that there was no way I would be able to get any higher with the status quo, so I had to take risks. Now a lot of those risks either haven't paid off, or my more dependable players randomly drop off to hurt the team despite the new adds that are actually producing, like Will Venable, Leonys Martin, and for a while, Nick Franklin, until the new adds cool off and have to be replaced again. Also, Ernesto Frieri suddenly starting to suck right when he joined my team hurt quite a bit.
Now that I'm towards the bottom, I'm gonna have to take even more risks if I want to make any attempt at a position on the positive side of the league, even if that looks highly unlikely right now.
Still inching along...my pitching continues to improve. Too bad my offense got hit by the injury bus.
http://www.virginmedia.com/images/Weird-car-crash-11-431x300.jpg
Took a shot on Sabathia, since I can use the upside and have innings to spare at this point. Weird start to today's game: he gave up a two-run homer, but he's struck out five in the first two innings, four of them swinging. Go figure.

He's still surging. I can feel the karmaic tidalwave of payback coming from 2011. Hes still surging!
This is gonna be close all around if the owners still active can keep forging ahead. I really have no clue who will win this year but I know who wont. Mikey I dont think youre gonna win. My only case is that the most powerful team in ANY league run here has never won it all. Yours fits that criteria.
Oh, and Evan Longorias broke out of his slump :)
Five homers yesterday. Yowza. I knew my team would put up good numbers when healthy (though Cueto's still out; willing to deal him for 50 cents on the dollar if anyone's interested in cheap upside, since I can't afford to wait), but as usual the question is: is it too late? I'm up 10.5 ranks in just 6 days and I've pulled within range in a couple of offensive categories, so we'll see.
Still got almost 6 weeks left.
I find Im in 3rd place again, i.e. the lid on the garbage pail. Kinda surprised Im doing as good as I am actually. David Price is at Baltimore tonight, and even though he's been lights-out awesome, Im kinda nervous. The birds are the birds after all. Tomorrow Cobb gets them and Cingrani gets the Diamondbacks.
Mikeys got a big ol assed lead! Im gonna have to be completely awesome from here on out, but 20 points is alot in only 6 weeks. Miguel Cabrera, will you please get the flu or something!

My team has done quite well(knock on wood)but things get crazy towards the end of the season. Pitchers have a innings cap and guys get shut down for the season, late season call ups, veterans get rested on struggling teams. You just never know....:shifty:
Man, what a day: 11 runs, 5 homers, and 16 RBIs yesterday! 5 homers ties the daily mark this season, which I did just 4 days ago, too. It's been a fantastic week. Still got a couple of big category plateaus to break through before I can gain much more, though.
And yeah, I would've expected Mikey's team to slow down a bit more by now, but it hasn't yet.
Jason Heyward was hit in the jaw by a pitch and is apparently in the hospital getting x-rays.
So that's a thing that happened.
Early word is Heyward'll miss 4-6 weeks, otherwise known as the rest of the season. Just when he was getting hot, too.
I've been playing fantasy sports a long time, and this is the most injured team I've ever had. Not even close.
On the bright side (meh), I moved up into a tie for third, and hit another three homers. That's 17 in 4 days.
The Heyward thing really hurts though; I bought low on him and, though he took longer to come around than I'd hoped, he was really mashing lately. For a few weeks there I had the whole team together and they were putting up some great numbers. Hopefully they'll keep it up without him.
18.5 ranks in ten days. Wow.
Haven't quite topped out; there are a few other categories where I can move up a rung or two, so second place isn't entirely out of the question before I plateau. If that happens, I'd probably need a couple of good weeks to catch up in a few categories if I want to get any closer.
Pretty sure anyone who wants to make a run at the top spot will need a little help from Mikey, though. Lots of ways to get into the high 90s, or thereabouts, but I don't think he'll lose unless he falls to the low 100s.
You are kicking SO much ass right now. Awesome job, Chris!
Yeah good job Yoder. You were right to just sit and wait when all your guys kept going out.
MumbleGrumblemumbleGrumble....
I guess my squad may still have a pulse. As I type this Im tied with Yoda at 88.5 at 3rd.
This is gonna be interesting. Mikeys like a balloon that just keeps going higher and higher. Miguel Cabrera hits like Ted Williams on steroids. Maybe the most drama for the finish will be who gets 2nd place. :yup: PW Im sure wants at least 2nd too, and if the Mariners suddenly start clicking he may surge again.
Im just gonna go swirling my players in a daily rotation depending on matchups. I think it will be worth a surge.
It happened AGAIN.
I set my pitching line-up last night, slotting both Minor and Burnett for their starts today.
Before I left for the hospital to go visit my Dad today, I logged in and both pitchers were fine, still active and lined up for a start.
I just got back a bit ago, I log in, and both starters are on the bench!! How is this possible? Is there some sort of team reset on Sunday or something? I just do not understand what is going on here... I verified this stuff this morning, and they were in their slots as set last night. There was no chance for me to not hit confirm or any such nonsense; they were already where they belonged.
I caught Burnett in time, but Minor is my clear ace and I NEED his start. You know, to take 8th! :D
Oy. That sucks.
To this point I've just been listing the most likely reasons this stuff happens, but at this point I'd strongly suggest contacting Yahoo to see if they can shed some light on it. I'd do it myself but they'll probably want to ask you about specifics directly. Since several people have mentioned it, it's clearly either a) a bug or b) a persistent confusion about a probably unintuitive mechanic. Either way, it'd be good to find out.
In the meantime, I guess it might help narrow things down a little to go back to the old menu-based system rather than the drag and drop, which can definitely be wonkier. There's a radio button near the bottom of the page that lets you toggle the mode.
You did an add/drop last night so that would have switched your pitchers. If you fixed it this morning that should have done the trick though. I never do an add without checking the next five days pitching and changing them if necessary. It's a pain but it only takes a minute.
Yeah the only thing that's throwing me here is the thing where he says it was fine this morning. If that's accurate then I'm at a total loss. But if it's not, then it's definitely because he made a pickup last night.
It's happened two other times, and I just wasn't 100% sure if I hadn't mucked up the change. This time, I am 100% sure they were in place for the start. They were in place as soon as I opened the session this morning - I made the switch yesterday. I just checked quickly and didn't mess with my team at all, then I was out the door.

This reads like a fantasy sports horror story. I would ask if you had gotten a player off waivers or dropped one, but you said you checked right before you left anyway so that wouldnt be it. Man I have no idea!

This is gonna sound kinda pedantic, but since we're probing for any explanation...when you say opened the session, is it possible it was opening up a cached version of the same page from the night before? Because mine seems to do that sometimes. Did you refresh?
Matt Harvey nooooooooo. He probably wasn't going to pitch many more starts this year for my team, but that just sucks in general. Probably out for all of the 2014 season? Bummer.
I think I can make up a few spots in wins and strikeouts, still, but I don't see a lot of potential to move up in the standings. Yoda is trying to catch me in steals :suspicious: But Mikey just looks too strong and has built up too big of a lead. It's hard to have that much movement, this late in the season, but there's still a chance! I'm gunning for top 3, at least.
Just look out! .5 away from 8th!! ;)
Marlon Byrd is on the Pittsburgh Pirates. I think this will be a good thing for his fantasy owners. Ater all he was on the Mets.
Ive fallen to 5th, and I have to say, it sucks a bunch. Ah well! My innings cap is looking alot better. It was over 100 but now Im in the 30s. Cingranis DL stint will help matters there.
Found out today the Rays have one day off for the rest of the regular season. One! Good thing weve a young team, but dayum thats a grind.
Going to the Bucco game tonight! They're 4-0 this year when I've gone, so here's hoping for another...also really hoping it doesn't get rained out. Looks a little dicey at the moment.
Dear League,
I like alot of you have realized I wont win the championship this year. So to all those that know wont win, we need to beat at least 1 coach in these last 4-5 weeks. Beat Vito Troll 2.
That is all.
P.S.
Yoda....the force really is with you. Good job this season man, cause if you fall short it was still the best comeback ever. Freedonia Ducks are ranked at #2!
P.S. x2
Done and Dunn (Mikeython) 107
Freedonia Ducks (Yoda) 92.5
Fighten' Fontenots (syj) 90 Nice surge to you too Scott. First season in, making his presence felt!
The Russell Wilson 9 (Powdered Water) 88.5
The Bad News Bears (Me) 86.5
Suicide Squeeze (Tim) 85
and the next guy is the one we have to beat. 78.5 points as I write this. MoFos.........

Thanks man. Yeah, it's been a thrilling few weeks. I still need a little regression from Mikey to have a shot; realistically I can probably get around the high 90s if things continue to go well, so we'll see. But yeah, given the incredible run of injuries I've had (imagine if I still had Heyward mashing!), I'm more than happy with where I've ended up.
Also, I gotta writeup what happened to PW's pitching staff last night, which is one of the most insane things I've ever seen playing fantasy baseball. As most of you probably know, PW's been killing us in ERA and WHIP all year, thanks largely to King Felix and Adam Wainwright.
He took the top spot in ERA on May 28th, and WHIP on May 31st, and held onto both every single day for just under three months. And it hasn't been close; even just compared to whoever was in second in either category (it's been me quite a bit), he'd still lead by like 0.20 in ERA and like .06 in WHIP, both of which are pretty big deficits in the second half of the season. As of August 11th his entire team ERA was 3.04 and his WHIP was 1.12. I'd completely written off trying to get higher than second in either category.
But it all blew up last night, as Felix and Wainwright both suffered the worst starts of their career, and Fister suffered one of his worst, all on the same night. Which is, you know, completely crazy. This would be remarkable for anyone, but especially given how awesome his pitching has been all year. I did a literal double take when I saw it on StatTracker last night.
When the dust had settled, Felix had given up 8 ER in 3 IP, Wainwright 9 in 2, and Fister 7 in 5. The total line for the three starters was 10 IP, 24 ER, and a 3.50 WHIP. The team ERA went from 3.29 to 3.48, and WHIP went from 1.16 to 1.18.
Tough break Chris. Seriously one of the wildest things I've seen.

I've still set my lineups but haven't paid attention to the score. Yup, still near the bottom....
Same thing happened to me. I had my pitching blow up the first start of the season with Price, Dickey, and Hamel. Their implosions set the tone for an incredibly difficult season in my pitching categories. A problem I was trying to avoid by drafting pitching rounds 2-9 in the draft.
I am just about to overtake Troll2....Just need a couple more points!
I have gone from 12th to 8th over the past few weeks, which doesn't mean squat, but I like to talk about it anyway. :D
I noticed his Yahoo profile has him in 9th in his other league, and never winning a single Yahoo league of any kind. I wonder if any of those were for money.

Yeah, I could tell. The fact that he actually started trash talking after temporarily making it to fifth kinda gave it away. Goodtimes.

You nabbed the Mariners newest addition today, Chris. Don't you have your own team? Can't you, like, just use your own September call ups? I kid you not. You literally added him like, 5 seconds before I did. For the record. I hate you. And I think you smell of elderberries.
OhMumbleGrumbleMumbleGrumble!
Im not fond in how I am finishing up the season. Siiiiiiiiiigh! So much work for naught. Overall I cant look at it as a fail of a season. Vito better not creep up on me though or me fall to his quadrant of the standings. I'd bust my move count to 1000 to correct that situation. Just so fast!
Other than our Deefending Champeen having his worst season, probably ever, this is turning out to be one of the best fantasy sports seasons weve ever had. For awhile there I was starting to wonder if the roto scoring took away all elements of surprise, but the finish of this regular fantasy seasons is actually intriguing. Curious to see how it plays out.
Oh Im so disgusted in myself for benching Adrian Gonzalez yesterday! I thought he was going into a slump, and he hit 2 taters on my bench. The fantasy screw keeps a turnin'

Ain't got no team in fantasy but my own, bro.
Normally the Bucs audition lots of young guys in September, but we're actually in a pennant race so we don't figure to give any of them a ton of playing time this year.
Ive been looking at this all wrong. Ive got the best in Rays pitching, Morre's back the 3rd, Cingrani the 5th, a whole lotta A-listers on offense now healthy, 30 days of baseball, and 22 points to win.

Boo. Thumbs down on you, pal!
Hey now, you've gotta love the Bucs! One of the cool things about this pennant race is that every team outside of our historical rivals seems to be rooting for it, since the fan base is so long suffering and it's such a great story to finally end the ignominy this way.
I am coming for you next, Tongo!!! Just look out!
:p
AUGH! Youre probably right! My squads picked an awful time to suck. The Rays suck now too! Im falling in the rankings, and even if I could trade now I dont know what I'd do as Ive got alot of great players on my team. Maybe they should all get injured at once, be out for 2 months and I do absolutely nothing, and when they come back they play flawlessly. Oh thats right, the seasons almost over. AUGH!
I just benched Evan Longoria. Yeah he's slumping again, and even worse this time. Must....turn.........tide.
Matt Moore returns today, and Cingrani comes back day after tomorrow. Hopefully the last of my DL experience this season. I know Ive said this a million times, but drafting pitching real heavy in the draft doesnt guarantee a dayum thang.
Rays probably wont even make the playoffs :(. Its our own fault as our offense has backslid. Having Longo AND Myers not hitting is too tough to overcome. Rest of the squads cooled too.
Baseball is stupid.
I'd say it's pretty much never a good idea to bench a star player for a slump unless it's approached some absurd, third-of-the-season-or-more level. It's simply not possible to effectively ride hot/cold streaks. Too random. Any success you might have is almost certainly in spite of it.
Dang... Castro goes down with a knee, right in the middle of a hot power streak. :(
Finally the Rays are doing well! Beating the Angels 6-1 in the 6th. Moore looks ok.
Really impressed with Scott and his team. Thought he was some newbie coming in and turns out to be a ringer. Ha!
Good job to Tims Squeeze surging to #2 with 92 points.
#1 is Mikey and hes got 111.5. I think Mikeys DoneDunns got it in the bag. Good job to you Mr Mikey!
Why was I able to get Starlin Castro off waivers? Hes hot now it seems. Matt Joyce is available now. He should just be on someones roster due to his awesomeness. :)
Probably because there's no such thing as being "hot" for short periods of time in a way that ever reliably indicates whether or not it'll continue.
Wow. Mikey dropped 5 ranks yesterday, which isn't that weird when you've got so many points, of course...but he's currently down 6. tonight, too! Largely because James Shields got rocked. If this holds he could be less than 10 points up on second place by tomorrow with over 3 weeks left to play. Not totally out of the question...

Honestly I thought it was going to be a breeze to the finish. I want to win but I actually enjoy the late competition. I'm not trying to sound conceded but I have had no worries for the past month, I kinda got a little big headed. Which might have actually screwed me over because I really was not trying to improve my team at all. I also have been trying to watch my innings count but I have been roughly projected 30 innings over but did not think that was a lot but it is. I had to trim my pitching staff which is going to make me vulnerable to lose valuable points(K's,WINS,SV'S) late in the season. It will be close and I am excited!:D
Yeah, ditto. :) Should be fun man.
BAH! I want to crash y'alls lil pennant party but just dont have the gas to do it. BAH!

If a surge or slump occurs now it means everything.
I was at 82.5 yesterday, so just look out! :D
18 days to go...
Mikey 104.5
Chris Yoda 94
Chris PW 92
syj Scott 90
Tims Squeeze 89.5
Im at 87 :(, and thats after gaining a point.
Yesterday looked bad, because I gained 0.5 points and Mikey gained 2.5, but it was actually a great day, because I gained a ton in a few offensive categories. Only enough to pass one guy, but I got a lot closer to others. It's not the kind of thing that shows up in a given morning, but it's the kind of thing that lays the groundwork for those big multi-point jumps on other days.
I think finishing near 100 is still very realistic at this point, but I still think any really plausible winning scenario involves Mikey dropping to around the same level.
The Tool tried to drop a bunch of good players, just as most of us predicted he might way back when. Naturally, I've restored his roster and locked his team. I'll try to put his lineup where it was beforehand and leave it there.
So, you can add "incredibly childish" to the list of attributes along with "really bad at fantasy baseball."
Wait - who is the "tool"?
Vito, the league's perennial doormat.

Well, that "big day" I was talking about setting up happened last night; I'd pulled closer in a few offensive categories and leapfrogged a bunch of them yesterday. Unfortunately Tyson Ross' (who's been fantastic) got shelled the other day, so I'm down a couple of slots in ERA for the moment.
Gap is still in the 9-10 range, primarily because I've had an incredible number of good pitching performances somehow not result in wins. Oy. Figuring that out is pretty much witchcraft, unfortunately.

09-15-13, 04:54 PM
The 'Nine can also have their "day" as it were. Yes.
Well, phase one of the plan, wherein I creep up into the high 90s, is going fine. But phase two, where Mikey comes back down to earth a little, has not. It did for awhile; I think he got down to 103 a week and a half ago, but he's had a good run lately. Over time this stuff tends to come down, but there's not a lot of time left.
Mikey should send Miguel Cabrera money to buy himself a steak dinner. Oh, and James Shields too.
Yeah, that extra 15% of awesome Cabrera's been is huge. I'm sure he's on a lot of Championship squads (and for the record, I would've taken him over Trout if I'd picked #1). But I think Scherzer had more to do with it. That's just an absurd number of wins to get from a mid-draft pitcher.
That, of course, and avoiding too many crippling injuries.
Yeah. Avoiding the injury bug this season was especially huge. Your squad, and then mine were crippled with DLs, and others would have a star out for 2 weeks to a month. I think the longest Miggy was out was for a week all season. What can you do?! No amount of draft research can avoid it.
Yeah, pretty much. There are a few guys you know are injury risks, but the vast majority just happen. Normally it's just the difference between 3rd and 8th or something, but in this case it looks like it might be the difference between 1st and 2nd.
Of course Smardjijjjijzjkja gets his crap together the moment I finally give up on him.
99% of the time I'm the guy who snatches those guys up and just benches them; I almost never give up on players with that kind of pedigree. But the hour is late and the downside of them biting you over such a short period is quite small. Oof. Been a lot of that kinda stuff this year.

Meh, Mikey's team has just been too good. I managed to stay at 100 for a bit awhile back, but man, Mikey's team really just ran away with it. We're playing for second and have been for about a month and a half.
There's an outside chance, if only because at this point there are lots of marginal leads in multiple categories (which is always the case when you're high in so many of them). But he'll need to drop, like 7-8 in the last week, in all likelihood. This level is almost impossible to maintain, but that doesn't mean the season won't happen to end right when he's on an upswing, which is looking to be the case right now.
Well, looks like my team isn't moving up anymore; my pitching is coming apart at the seams. Fun season, folks!

Yeah, when I first landed in 2nd I was probably around 92-93, and I took a look at the lay of the land and figured that, if things broke well and I made good decisions, I could get up around 100, so I'd just need Mikey to drop 3-5 ranks to have a chance. Instead he's gone up about that much.
It's definitely not sustainable, as I suggested before, but it doesn't have to be. If he walks that high wire for another week, then he'll have ridden a peak right into the end of the season. Of course, even without this hot streak, he'd probably still be ahead, but by 2-3 instead of like 10.

Well...good. It'd be pretty weird if your fantasy baseball team stopped playing with a week left to go. The sports media would be all freaked out and not see any connection between the players.

Funny stuff Mr. Smarty-pants!
Tyson Ross joins the "throw a ridiculous gem and somehow not get a win club." I've had 5 starters go over the last two days, and four of them threw either good or excellent games. Zero wins. Doesn't help that virtually every dude I've had to cut bait on has come back with a vengeance shortly after.
Now Bumgarner's been shut down before his last start. Pretty sure this'll do it. If I'd gotten 2 or even 3 wins over the last couple of days things might be a little more interesting, but at this point I'll be pretty shocked if I come within even 4 or 5 points. I can see see a plausible path looking at the individual categories, but realistically there'd probably need to have been a bit more movement earlier in the week.

It just doesn't matter. Mikey's team just doesn't drop! Good job Mikey. You put a real nice team together.
Yup, congrats Mikey! You have a ridiculously strong team for a 14 team league, and you managed it pretty much perfectly. Your projected innings are even 0.1 away from 1500
I've managed to get within 0.5 points of 2nd, but things are so close in ERA and WHIP that I could end up anywhere between 2nd and 4th. TONGO, are you going to have an end of the year recap?
Aye, at this point he could collapse in the last two days and he'd still probably have a few ranks to spare, so congrats Mikey! Looking back, it was probably the Tigers that had the most do with it: Cabrera somehow more than returning on his high draft position cost and Scherzer just winning a ton of games. And the Darvish pick was early enough that it required he deliver on just about all his upside to have value...and then he did anyway.
Caps off, great season. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, but I'm also glad we got to have a little drama in the last few weeks. :)
Yeah congratulations Mikey. You beat us all and earned it. You also broke the curse! The curse was the most powerful team in any league has never won. That curse is no more. (Which means good things for my MoFo FFB team :) )

Bucs go deep six times today! On the verge of taking the first two games of the series and ensuring that Tuesday's Wild Card game will be in PNC Park!

No hitter for Alvarez through 8. Just happened to pick him up.
Heh. I almost did yesterday. Not that it'd make a huge difference either way.

He has thrown a no-hitter everyone! Oh wait, it's a 0-0 tie
Nope, he got it; Marlins score on a wild pitch in the 9th.

Cheers to a fun year! The Ducks and the RW9 made it interesting down the stretch. Honestly this is the first time I have won anything fantasy sports related. I am really stoked! :D Can't wait till next year.

Sigh... all that work and I couldn't even hang onto third place.
Another hearty congrats to Mikey.
Pretty happy with this year in total. It was definitely the worst injury luck I've ever had, but that ended up resulting in the biggest comeback, and those are always fun. Hard to be too disappointed with finishing in 2nd anyway (especially in a 14-teamer), all things considered.
Good stuff! :) Hope most of you guys will be back for next year.
Oh, also:
PIRATES PLAYOFF GAME TOMORROW. AND I WILL BE THERE.
We've ever favored! Insanity.
I'm really setting myself up to be bummed out if we lose. But then, I've been dreading this for months. By the All-Star break it was already obvious that the most likely scenario, by far, was not quite winning the division and having to play a coin-flip of a game against Cincinnati, which is exactly what's happened.

Nope. Bring it, defending champ!

No, me as well. I need to finally have a good baseball season in this league for once.
Im very much looking forward to the draft. No Longo in round 1 this year! No not Myers either.
Wonder where Braun will go?

It's going to be damn interesting this year. So many question marks. I have to wonder if Cargo and Encarnacion can stay healthy. They were beasts last year for me when healthy.

Go ahead and draft Robinson Cano in the first round, if you dare!
Guess who sent an angry message through the league site last night?
Really? He still all chuffed off?
Yeah, all huffy. Lots of swearing and seventh-grade caliber trash talk, so I'll understand how tough he is.

Is he returning this year?
Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
:rotfl:

:rotfl:
No.
It might be a tough call if he were unengaged but thoughtful and polite, or a huge tool but good competition, but he's neither.
Even if any of us were in a forgiving mood about this, I think trying to dump your entire team mid-season as part of some misguided tantrum is a total deal breaker.
No way he is coming back...
Vito?! Still?! UNBELIEVABLE!!! Im in unbelief. How the hell?!
My favorite part was when he said head-to-head was more exciting, even though his worst season by far was when we were still playing head-to-head.

Are we opening up the new one soon? When does season start I haven't a clue.
Regular seasons games either start in late March or early April.
I usually post the signup thread right around mid-February, so very soon. :)
Mike Trout #1 overall again? Im dubious. What more does Miguel Cabrera have to do?

Cabrera won me a Championship! :yup:
I would take Miggy quickly. Only hesitation might be because he had some back issues at the end of last season.
