Inspired by many others, as a listaholic I am posting my top 50 worse films. Most of these are recent trash movies, some are largely unknown (thankfully), and there are some extremely critically acclaimed that I just hated. I'll be posting 10 a day so this doesn't drag on, and since I've already done rants for a chunk of these movies.

Lets start

50. Love and Other Drugs
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/FDA0CE3B-1426-4C2A-9D67-80DF794BCB12-9805-000007188CC1E707_zpscea18786.jpg
How did Gyllenhaal go from Donnie Darko to this in less than a decade? I mean this was a real drool, the romantic value was zero and the comedy value was in the negatives.

49. Dante's Peak
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/B462B007-3434-4B37-8666-AF5B2AAF641C-9805-000007188D88ABA1_zps9ec58f95.jpg
Awful dialogue, awful acting, and crummy special effects.

48. The Crush
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/2A23C60F-F943-42E5-84E9-03F7CB18FA9F-9805-000007188E1B95AC_zps539c540f.jpg
About a pedophile who can't resist his urges. What do you need more?

47. Somebody Told me About Carla Bruni
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/8F0DC970-3FD3-4FAB-B136-DD0B8326766C-9805-000007188E82D356_zpse5005407.jpg
It's a TV movie I stumbled across, and that's legit the only picture I could find for it. It was like watching paid advertising for 90 mins.

46. Two Tons Turquoise To Taos Tonight
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/5F0AB6DE-C47E-4808-9623-26A4FF48EB08-9805-000007188EDFA92F_zpsc171b47a.jpg
It's a shame to include a film from Robert Downey Sr. since I respect his satire, but this was nothing more than a home movie.

45. Surf Nazis Must Die
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/483B88C1-2294-4FB0-BA15-09DA96DE5369-9805-00000718908C47F3_zpsfe6722cb.jpg
The film doesn't even live up to its name. It didn't have any action, and that black mom was one of the worse actresses ever.

44. Troll 2
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/73ED2696-053E-4844-9130-3F38D772D1AD-9805-000007189159BE27_zps9e70249d.jpg
I'll piss on your Blu ray player so you won't watch this.

43. Cannibal! The Musical
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/4C4C35B7-1D80-4BFC-8B38-3F28FCEE5B29-9805-0000071891C6B8FB_zps6e0ca99d.jpg
I believe it's by one of the South Park creators. And I will admit I laughed hard at the beastiality joke, but before and after that this film is so boring.

42. RV
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/B1564172-D7AF-4B29-92F5-8F922DA474C5-9805-00000718923CF312_zpsafb9dda1.jpg
If you've seen it, you know why it's here.

41. Viva Maria!
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/F0E8CDD4-AB92-4228-8FD3-C1B38A047310-9805-0000071892EBC75C_zps366f956f.jpg

I like Dante's Peak, but I have a thing for disaster movies. I really liked The Crush. That's a good Poison Ivy clone.

I'm tempted to + rep you for Viva Maria!, but that's just one film, while you have two films on there that I like, so I won't. :p

Quiet a few films that are loved by some MoFos on this set; I think there's a couple we can all agree on though.

40. Eyes Wide Open
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/D5CB0553-7849-4B1A-80A9-7C8DCF1BFCBC-10055-0000074E195375E2_zpsc57180c7.jpg
Watched this because it was nominated for the MoFo tournament, way to pessimistic and un relatable.

39. Halloween
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/38143777-02A2-4E37-86AF-92757E9BFFE7-10055-0000074E1A7F65EC_zpsee30f47d.jpg
The biggest let down I've ever experienced. Being a fan of slashers I picked this up, and I never jumped or laughed. It was Un-realistic too.

38. Of Mice and Men
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/1AEFAEA4-A468-4E4B-BCE8-80704688703C-10055-0000074E1ABEEA16_zpsf5f73cbc.jpg
Diskliked the book, hated the movie for the same reasons. Got repetitive fast.

37. The people Under The Stairs
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/3BBA1E23-9E7D-4960-935F-799EA15FF793-10055-0000074E1B0E387E_zps172337cc.jpg
Wes Cravens film can scare the crap out of no one.

36. The Third Wheel
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/4EDBD5B9-D6A3-47E7-9CBE-F5947DC5821C-10055-0000074E1B828E59_zpsb489a8ce.jpg
Shame to see such a good cast go to waste on such a cliche comedy.

35. Mysterious Skin
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/84EFA042-2B51-4B71-A984-171D9506DF13-10055-0000074E1D038248_zps945c9a2e.jpg
Pedophilia and rape are bad, right? We've all established this, can I make that assumption? Great now go watch a disturbing and vile film that'll show you in detail why it's bad.

34. The Prestige
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/72E1C5B8-929C-436E-A12A-0841FB0FDA17-10055-0000074E1D470019_zpsef0d98ad.jpg
I fell asleep, woke up right before the end, and fell asleep again as it finished.

33. I'm a Cyborg But That's Ok
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/718745EC-159D-4148-8598-989AE3B2D071-10055-0000074E1D9184C2_zpscbb2d502.jpg
This actually had an intresting premise but it got so ridiculously weird, so suddenly too. Felt like Bollywood

32. Teeth

Feminism, woo-hoo!

31. Panormal Activity 2

I have seen Dante's Peak few times during my childhood since it was a popular film to show on TV.Don't remember anything about it now, though but I think I wouldn't consider it bad.

Agree on The Prestige, didn't fall asleep but I don't find it great like many people do. :)

Again, I like or even love all these movies. The only one I haven't seen is The Third Wheel. I won't argue with you about Paranormal 2. They all are kind of the same movie, but I can't help but like them, because they still scare me. People Under the Stairs is pretty goofy, but there is something about it. Besides, it has A.J. Langer.

You already know how I feel about Mysterious Skin and I love Halloween. The rest of the movies I like to some degree.

I haven't seen The Crush in a very long time, but I remember liking it well enough. I also remember it being much more about the girl than the "pedophile" you describe.

I've seen several movie versions of Of Mice And Men and the one with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich is, IMO, the best of them. And I've always felt the book was a poignant look at the real meaning of friendship.

The Prestige is not one I'd consider a great movie, but I thought it was well made and engaging.

Teeth was a disappointment. I felt they really could've done a lot more with the premise if they'd tried, but it's a B movie so I didn't really have super high hopes.

Can we just get this right, simply because it annoys me greatly. Paedophilia and underage sex are two different things that can overlap, but they're not the same. I'm not defending either or anything like that, but there's no doubt that one's a legal age at which someone is considered old enough to make their own decisions about whom they have sex with (so long as that person is also of the required age) and the other is a sexual preference/desire for pre-pubescent children.

Teeth wasn't good, and you're right, it really could've been. Me and the wife tried watching The Prestige but had to shut it off because we couldn't understand what they were saying. I like Halloween a little bit.

03-03-13, 12:19 PM
I think this set may raise a few eyebrows to. The "real" trash will only really start in the top 20.

30. Hunger
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/60B3F140-E15C-4DF2-8D4A-C03CFC7C4184-11006-000007FCD6B9837D_zps4fe141da.jpg
This film was incredibly unreal, even based off a true story. It was a bunch f prisoners that always yelled, and guards that enjoyed abusing them. I never understood either side.

29. Fearless Vampire Killers
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/32FC8276-662B-4172-A9EF-21765BB377DB-11006-000007FCD77CA8CA_zps16240acb.jpg
Yes a Polanski film has made my worse film list! Why? Because it's not in the least bit funny or entertaining.

28. You Gotta Stay Happy
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/053569A4-0B32-4432-B5F8-33EAB966CD18-11006-000007FCD85B7583_zpsd33f618a.jpg
The definition of an out dated film right here.

27. Taken 2
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/78D8927E-FB0D-4BE7-97B3-B68CBEE9A74B-11006-000007FCD8F4FCC3_zpsa68eff2f.jpg
The worse film I've ever went to the theather to go see. Just so unrealistic, your being held hostage with a gun and they let you call your daughter to give her a heads up. WTF? Made absolutely no sense, the first Taken was fun, this was the opposite.

26. Young Adult
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/829BF0F3-2052-4033-A09D-1D4753EFD91B-11006-000007FCD99F4FB7_zpsa7c19b41.jpg
Thernon had a great performance, but I believe the writer of the film doesn't believe that normal people exsist.

25. The Secret Life of Bees
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/5B5D3A12-980D-4973-96D4-345906CE564E-11006-000007FCDBE6F0C4_zpsc28952ea.jpg
Another film that I didn't like the book of either. Not historically accurate and just a dumb story.

24. The Omen
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/56E761AD-31A3-4C86-B56C-7CFCE34B1103-11006-000007FCDD4277FA_zps42ff5fbe.jpg
Even the infamous suicide scene didnt effect me in the slightest.

23. Lars and The Real Girl
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/70E1BE3F-C846-4B2A-93F1-1AF6265CCA7C-11006-000007FCDDC80C82_zpsf1c97997.jpg
A film about a sex doll that takes itself seriously can only be so good.

22. The Hospital
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/01A92A7C-FEEE-4DA4-82AF-FE993F1F3917-11006-000007FCDE84F7F4_zpsa6afb92f.jpg
The dialogue felt unrealistic and I didn't laugh once.

21. Pirates of The Caribean: The Curse of Black Pearl
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u576/donniedarko6/50%20Worse%20films/D1C8B42A-4C2C-464E-AC4D-FF9340B3C7F6-11006-000007FCDF7ADFBC_zps957309c0.jpg
I've ranted about this film a few times before. I hated the fantasy in it, and it was a yawn fest for me. Johnny Depp is annoying as all hell too.

Lars and the Real Girl? Halloween? Young Adult? PotC?

The only thing bad here is your taste. Clearly you don't understand the horror genre, nor the adventure genre. You also wouldn't know a classic if you saw one. Oh, see, you DID see one, and you didn't recognize it. See?

Bad list is bad.

Also, It would be 50 WorsT Films, not worse.

I can understand that you didn't particularly enjoy Eyes Wide Open, but is it really a worse film than Troll 2 or Cannibal the Musical?

I don't think it's fair to add any film that you haven't actually watched all the way through, so The Prestige really shouldn't qualify if you slept through it.

If Curse of the Black Pearl is 21, I hope you've got spots reserved higher than that for Dead Man's Chest and At World's End.

@Sedia
Halloween and Omen are sh*t in the horror genre, and have no place being called a horror classic. Rosemarys Baby, Silence of The Lambs, Misery, Eraserhead and When a Stranger Calls (1979) that's true horror. The Young Adult adult characters were way to weird to feel real, same with Lars and The Real Girl.

What classic are you reffering to though, there are a couple.

@Thursday I actually the second PoTC but I didn't come close to finishing it so that one won't be included. Atleast Troll 2 offered some value to me, while Eyes Wide Open just tried to make the audience depressed, unsuccessfully for me.

No, I feel that 'worse' is more accurate, considering that a lot of these really, really don't belong in a 'worst film' list. They're films that are worse than other films but not actually the worst. That works.

Nor do I see how the original Omen film is sh*t at all.

Strangely, my IT teacher is a Polanski fan and not only is this her favourite film of his but it's her favourite film overall. I haven't seen it though so can't give my opinion here.

I haven't seen that many films here, those I have:

Pirates of the Caribbean 3
Taken 2 1.5
Lars and the Real Girl 4.5
The Prestige 3
Paranormal Activity 2 0.5

I saw The Omen at the movies when I was 5 years old and it had a lasting effect on me. I would call it one of the best horror movies of all time. It's 7.6 rating on IMDb is pretty high for that type of film. It doesn't mean you should like it, but you should at least be able to understand why many do.

Don't listen to them, donnie. So long as these really are your choices, I'm with you. Not because I agree, though Fearless Vampire Killers is terrible (I've got your back on that one) and, I believe, that Mark Kermode will probably tell you that Taken 2 is the most cynical, soulless, money-making exercise Hollywood has ever produced.

Also, I know I've said it a hundred time, but Silence of The Lambs isn't a horror film and, therefore, cannot be a horror classic. :p

This is a list I could trust. This is probably the best list on MoFo. While I don't agree with him about all of his choices and opinions, the refreshing thing is that they're actually HIS opinions and not canned reactions people might be picking up from others.

I have recently been saying, after a rewatch, that HALLOWEEN isn't really all that great. I am AMAZED to see the opinion repeated -- before I even made it. I can totally see why he didn't like it.

So nice to actually hear a voice that's different than others. Not every ACCLAIMED film works with people, and frankly it can even be scary if it does. Just because something is deemed "good" by a majority is no reason you have to bend over and let it f**k you up the ass. It might be best to protect yourself.

I still like the movie. I LOVED it when I was younger. But now, when I think about other scary movies, I'm just not that impressed with Halloween. The characters aren't that interesting. Jamie Lee Curtis doesn't even have much going on with her, both as the star and as the character. It doesn't have a satisfying ending and really the whole thing is just odd. A little kid, for some reason, kills his older sister. Then he breaks out of the mental institution he's been staying at for years and years and goes after some new teenage girls and kills them, all except one, the virginal goody girl, who lives and cries about it. His doctor thinks he is PURE EVIL.

Perhaps it's all about subtext or something. Maybe the sequels ruined it. Maybe it would have been better if Michael Myers didn't keep coming back, if Laurie Strode didn't turn out to be Michael's sister, etc. But coming back he sure does. I think they're getting started on another Halloween movie right now. Another reboot, this time not a Rob Zombie movie.

It's a horror film.

I really, really don't understand this complaint. Yes, it's a horror film, but once you introduce the unrealistic elements, the interactions and what happen according to the rules you introduce, should be realistic and consistent.

Lets have a look at a few of my favourite 'unrealistic horrors' in the fact the deal with things that couldn't happen in real life: The Exorcist, The Shining, The Thing, The Fly.

They are still realistic in their execution, once you accept the character of the possessed girl, the morphing 'thing' and a man-turned-fly, the films feel very real, their world and other characters react according, and it's this human level, psychological thriller aspect that makes them successful.

Halloween gives the impression that it is like them a character driven horror, that what we are seeing is real, everything seems pretty plausible up until the third act where I think the main characters actions are completely stupid.

I praise the film for its atmosphere and direction, Carpenter uses the camera to achieve this effectively, he's clearly watched enough films to know how to achieve the stylistic look he goes for, but I think in terms of story its quite thin, and once we reach the finale it descends into a bit of a farce.

But yeh, I'm (were?) in the minority here, and I understand a lot of people consider it a classic of the genre, that's fine :)

The Hospital does not belong on this list! I personally love the rich dialogue and George C. Scott is always awesome to watch.

Personally I don't really mind the appearances of Lars and the Real Girl and Slumdog Millionaire. I always try to focus on the positive aspects of films, so it's not like I hate them, but I do think they're quite overrated. The first one left me rather cold and its absurd humor didn't reach my "comical core" and the 2009 Oscar winner was basically one huge "cliché fest", even though I think it still is an OK film.

So you're only really talking about the end? I agree the story is thin but, it's urban legend stuff. Babysitter murders, escaped lunitic, the bogeyman, they're all there in Halloween.

As for the end, it's Dr. Loomis being proved right. He's not some nut, he's seen what Michael is and has been right all along. I'm not saying that you should like it for that, but it's reasonably explained. Maybe Halloween is to you what Haute Tension is to me? Except I'm right, of course. :p:D

funnily enough, i would disagree only with the #1. not saying it was any good, but not that bad. bad adaptation and a terrible ending + other actors could have played the roles more convincingly, but it wasn't unwatchable. otherwise, a decent list there.
