...here, after decades of tales warning us about the overreach of technology and the likelihood that we will create machines that overthrow us, is a tale of the opposite: not a technological enemy, but a biological one. An insurrection not from aliens in the sky, or the machines around us, but from beneath. An inversion of the natural order....READ MORE

Great review Yoda. :yup: And I so agree with you about the quality of it. In fact I've just given it the same rating in the review of it I've just posted

I loved it. There are a ton of flaws (Caesar was 8 when he led the riot, right? So he would still have been the equivalent of a kid or a young teen. And I wanted the humans' downfall to be triggered by something more stupid and destructive than a failed attempt to help the sick), but there's so much thought and ideas spilling out all over the place, so much soul and a character-based plot that builds up enough momentum to carry all before it.
I love great apes and read and watch as much as I can about them, to the extent that I even really liked Burton's Planet of the Apes because, unlike the originals, these guys behaved quite a lot like apes. There's tons here for someone like me (the signing Orang-Utan, the chimp clanging the can in the dominance display, etc, etc), and I accept that this movie couldn't have an easier target than me. But there's also tons here for action fans (it's a superbly-paced movie that climaxes in one of the best action scenes in years, in which several apes, especially the gorillas, get a chance to be totally awesome). It works as a sci-fi thought piece too.
I think I like it best, though, viewed from the Apes' Earth, back through the mists of times, as a dramatisation of the legend of Caesar. The force of the character, the fundamental rights and wrongs which shape him, the power of the acting/CGI- this is a terrific, mythic story about a legendary hero.

the analogy of Star Trek and its recent reboot is bang on. I've wrestled with trying to explain it to folks who havent seen it, and so now i am giving notice that i intend to scoop that info and of course take full credit for the observation.

I've seen it twice now. Such an awesome film. It's even encouraged me to re-watch the original again, plus all it's sequels for the first time, cheesy as they may be.
I didn't realise the premise for Rise is loosely borrowed from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, made for an interesting watch.

I picked up on a few references to the original on first viewing. But after watching the original again, then seeing Rise for a second time, I must have picked up on about 6 or 7 more. Plenty of little nods for fans of the 1968 film.

It is not for nothing that the film's climatic battle takes place not only on a bridge, but in the fog. Or, more specifically, in a small break in the fog, obscuring for both species' not only what's in front of them, but the mistakes behind them that would have served as its only warning.Extra thumbs-up for this little nugget...
Saw it 2 weeks ago and loved it :yup:
It's cool to see where Tom Felton has landed himself after the HP series and so far it kicked off to a good start, especially with the RotPtA reviews. Great review! :D

The felton role wore out its welcome. A bit of a copout really..i mean who can blame the simians from risen up against an abusive douchebag. I would have preferred to have gotten more Brian Cox.

You have finally gotten me to want to see this movie. Before it came out I had NO interest. Then it got good reviews and friends said it was great. I decided it could be good and now you've pushed me into the wanting to see it category.

go in with low expectations and be delighted. I think if i watched it for the 1st time now with all the praise foisted upon it, i'd be inevitably disapointed.
I saw it in the cinema today. I liked it. I'll do a review on it.

Alright, alright, lets not get carried away here. This is not the best movie of the year. Good movie, sure. Very well made and easy to watch. I'm looking forward to another installment. Not sure if this is making enough cash to warrant another. But yeah, I'd definitely like to see another.

Really? See, I keep being told this is good, but the more I hear the less I want to see it and, from seeing the trailer, it's not a film that made me want to see it anyway.
Now, if it was an actual gorilla riding an actual horse, now we've got a film.

Now, if you throw in a Russian girl on the phone to her mum, you'd have a timeless classic.

There are several "gorillas" with shotguns riding on horses in the original Planet of the Apes.

And, as they're people in gorilla suits, rather than CGI, they probably look better. They're definately cooler.

I've seen this 3 times now and am still not bored with it! It's got everything. Action, Suspense a fantastic plot and a very sexy leading lady! The monkeys are amazing I love how they gave them human characteristics but still kept them monkey like. I think that other than the visual effects and fantastic story line, this film has a deeper message routed in it. It looks at how we are claiming the earth as our own and giving total disregard to other creatures, that in habit it, feelings. One day we will be sorry for what we have done to this planet. Ok let's face it, monkeys aren't gonna take over the world any time soon (at least I hope not!) but we will eventually see repercussions (if we aren't already) for what we are doing! Sorry gone off topic a lil there! Wicked film 11/10! :) :D

This movie was two beers for me.
Verdict: Regardless, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is beyond impressive and one of the best films to have come out this year. The themes of playing god, institutionalism, and intellect are empowering and intriguing and although the focus is chimpanzees, the film’s reflection on society and human behavior is examined. However, don’t let anyone convince you this film is a take on racism, it’s not and I’d even argue that anyone who associates this film with racism is in fact a racist themselves. But I digress; although its ending feels forced and rushed, the majority of the film takes its time developing situations, reactions, and reason. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is the only film that I’ve seen where talks of a sequel would excite me and actually feel needed. Yeah, it’s that good.
I loved it I think it's one of the best movies of 2011
Watched this a night or two ago; I thought it was excellent. Wonderfully realized character in Caesar.

Definitely one of the better movies I've seen all year. Caesar was one of the best characters I've ever seen in film (for being a chimp), and the production was excellent all around. Not too big a fan of James Franco's character, though it was well-acted and written in well enough to enjoy. Either way, it's a must see for all who enjoyed the original or have not even seen it.

It's defenetly an above average movie...
If there was no avenue for watching free movies online I honestly would not have went to watch this film. After I seen it for free online, I rushed out to watch this flick (my hips hate me for the junkfood I take in).
Rise of the Planet of the Apes was epic, and left me crying out for more!
I was pretty skeptical when I began to watch it, but the actors pulled it off and left you screaming within for Ceasar! The CGI's were simply amazing, I actually had to read up on CGI's after seeing the film.
I can hardly wait for part 2, 3, 4, 5 heck I wish they would make a TV series on it, I would be hooked!
I thought this film was fantatsic! Loved it!! :yup:

Watched this a night or two ago; I thought it was excellent. Wonderfully realized character in Caesar.
Yes this was the incredible aspect for me as well. The two scenes that stand out are the day in the woods when Ceasar on a leash encounters a family walking a dog, and the idea of what constitutes a pet is explored.
The second is when Ceasar enters the cell fully clothed and isnt exactly welcomed with open arms by his simian brotherhood.
Serkis deserves consideration for an oscar nom imo.

The fact that the story didn't perfectly fit the first film, the company and the spaceship, didn't bother me at all. I've seen it twice and I loved it, it made me laugh, cheer and sorrow haha

I am a big fan of the original Planet of the Apes movies. and I must say, even with the changed story line, I thought it was excellent. The new digital technology, with Ceasar flying through the trees was awesome. James Franco played an excellent part!!
