THIS LIST IS IRRELEVANT, TURN BACK NOW!!!

Find my revised Top 50 here: http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=785015#post785015

50. A Few Good Men (Reiner, 1992)

http://movies.maxupdates.tv/wp-contents/uploads/2010/01/A-Few-Good-Men.jpg

"You can't handle the truth!"

49. WALL-E (Stanton, 2008)

"WALL-E!"

48. The King's Speech (Hooper, 2010)

http://www.joblo.com/newsimages1/TheKingsSpeechPoster.jpg

"If I'm King, where's my power? Can I form a government? Can I levy a tax, declare a war? No! And yet I am the seat of all authority. Why? Because the nation believes that when I speak, I speak for them. But I can't speak."

47. Scent of a Woman (Brest, 1992)

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT07GeoRL6RMjssmnKxg8NPJzmepoLyLpwyjtcY1R0yfrI50TkrkQ

"Out of order. I'll show YOU 'out of order'! You don't know what 'out of order' is, Mr. Trask. I'd show you, but I'm too old, I'm too tired, I'm too f****** blind. If I were the man I was five years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place! Out of order? Who the hell do ya think you're talking to? I've been around, ya know? There was a time I could see. And I have seen. Boys like these, younger than these. Their arms torn out, their legs ripped off. But there is nothing like the sight of an amputated spirit. There's no prostetic for that. You think you're merely sending this splendid foot solder back home to Oregon with tail between his legs, but I say you are executing his SOUL! And why? Because he's not a Baird man. Baird men. You hurt this boy, you're gonna be Baird bums, the lot of ya. And Harry, Jimmy, Trent, wherever you are, f*** you too!"

I'm assuming Super 8 is the surprise. Honestly, I don't think Spiderman 3 is as bad as people say either. It wouldn't crack my top 100, but probably 150-200

Spider-Man 3 is definitely more of a surprise than Super 8. Super 8 is my favorite of the year thus far.

24. Halloween (Carpenter, 1978)

http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage//upl_images/halloween-poster-1978.jpg

I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes... the devil's eyes. Good nutrition's given you some length of bone, but you're not more than one generation from poor white trash, are you, Agent Starling? And that accent you've tried so desperately to shed: pure West Virginia. What is your father, dear? Is he a coal miner? Does he stink of the lamp? You know how quickly the boys found you... all those tedious sticky fumblings in the back seats of cars... while you could only dream of getting out... getting anywhere... getting all the way to the FBI."

Nice list so far, with Blade Runner & Chinatown two recent favourites of mine. The only films I really have a problem with are Revenge Of The Sith & Scott Pilgrim. The latter does have some great editing and likeable characters, but failed to deliver enought to satisfy my expectations. I like Sith, but not more than Jedi or New Hope. Still can't wait to see the rest and +1 for The Dark Knight being in your top 10.

5. GoodFellas (1990)

Directed by Martin Scorsese

Starring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci

http://crimeshowinvestigator.com/MovieReviews/Posters/Goodfellas.jpg

"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster."

Being that it is the polar opposite of "The Godfather", it is interesting to fathom how "GoodFellas" became every bit the defining film of the gangster genre that Coppola's masterpiece is. Perhaps it is the performances, or maybe the directing, or even the wildly entertaining episodic format that the story is presented in. But in my humble opinion, I believe it's the realism that Scorsese brings to his wiseguys. Unlike Coppola, he does not glamorize the dirty business they are in. Instead, we are privy to every murder, drug deal, and double-crossing... and we enjoy every minute of it.

4. Psycho (1960)

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock

Starring Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, and John Gavin

http://www.movieposter.com/posters/archive/main/11/b70-5617

"You know what I think? I think that we're all in our private traps, clamped in them, and none of us can ever get out. We scratch and we claw, but only at the air, only at each other, and for all of it, we never budge an inch."

"Psycho" forever holds a place in my heart as being the film that got me interested in film. Today, it remains immeasurably influential, being the motion picture that single-handedly invented the modern horror genre. And with its unconventional narrative and quirky dialog, screenwriter Joseph Stefano deserves just as much credit for this flawless film as Alfred Hitchcock. But of course, praise for "Psycho" is never complete without mentioning Anthony Perkins' brilliant performance as Norman Bates.

3. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Starring Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, and William Sylvester

http://www.daviddarling.info/images/2001_Space_Odyssey.jpg

"Open the pod bay doors, HAL."

Few films are better described as an experience than a movie viewing, but "2001" is one of them. Upon first viewing it comes across as dull, boring, and abysmally slow, but a second viewing reveals that this is indeed Kubrick's masterpiece and, with its Cold War undertones and acid-induced "Stargate Sequence", the film that painted the most mystifying portrait of the 1960's.

2. The Godfather (1972)

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola

Starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and James Caan

http://cache2.allpostersimages.com/p/LRG/16/1654/CZJGD00Z/posters/the-godfather.jpg

"Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."

The pinnacle of Hollywood storytelling, the beginning of Coppola's epic trilogy hits all of the right notes; the acting, directing, writing, music, and cinematography is flawless. No film has ever presented such a satisfyingly entertaining drama, but what can I write about "The Godfather" that hasn't already been written?

And here it is, my favorite movie of all time (and by a landslide)...

1. Vertigo (1958)

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock

Starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes

http://www.cinemacom.com/saul-bass/vertigo.gif

"And then what did he do? Did he train you? Did he rehearse you? Did he tell you exactly what to do, what to say? You were a very apt pupil too, weren't you? You were a very apt pupil! Well, why did you pick on me?! Why me?!"

Hitchcock's greatest achievement? I would agree. "Vertigo" is certainly the Master's most complex, artistic, and personal film, highlighted by fantastic performances from the entire cast. It is as entertaining as it is cerebral, and if we look closely enough at "Vertigo" we see that it is a thinly veiled portrait of the director's attitude towards women, particularly his actresses. An absolute landmark in cinema that is not to be missed.
