View Full Version : What's your screen resolution?
Hey MoFos.
Quick question: what's your screen resolution? I ask not merely out of curiousity, but because if the numbers are especially different from the usual percentages, I might want to tweak a few of the changes I'm working on.
If you don't know your resolution, just click on this pretty link. (http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/) C'mon, it only takes a second, and you'll be making a nerd happy (me, I mean).

I'm usually on 1440 X 900 with my laptop, but I'm on my PC for a short while so I chose that one.
See, the thing is, I have the exact same monitor I've had for years, and it looks pretty square to me. It's the same one I used with my last computer, which was 1024x768. In fact, I was sure that was still my resolution, but that site informed me otherwise. I guess the computer I bought recently just came with this one.
Certainly isn't what I'd call widescreen, though. Dunno what's going on.

Last New Year's Eve my screen's resolution was to lose twenty pounds, stop smoking and call its mother more often. So far the fat nicotine-stained bastard hasn't touched that phone. And it's December already.
But apparently it has swelled to 1024x768.
Whatever in the fart that means.
That means you're old school and probably don't have a fancy-schmancy widescreen monitor.

1440x900 or, as this is a movie site, 16:10. ;)

I have no clue, but I'm sure it is the lowest possible.

Thanks for all the votes, guys. :) If anyone else cares to do this, please do; it only takes a moment!
Results so far are roughly in line with what I was hoping for. I'm pleased to see that everyone listed thus far has a resolution of 1024x768 or higher. It means the overwhelming majority of users are seeing the site largely as it is meant to be seen. :) Good to know.

Erm.... my poll response is what it was before this thread made me want to see what the other resolutions look like. Now I have a clearer picture at the 1100-level resolution. :D
I'm glad you asked!

I changed computers after this, and it is now a 1152 by 864. With me though, that could easily change again.
I remember way back when, when I used the 800 by 600 setting. Now that was huge.

Yeah, I switched from my huge, microwave oven sized monitor, to a smaller one. However, I have an LCD monitor that I seriously need to get hooked up to.
Then again, I have many things I seriously need to hook up, or do something to. Too bad I don't care. Sometimes I can be so lazy.

1920x1080 on this new monitor my Dad brought home a little while ago.
And Mofo looks really tiny on it. Is there a way Chris, that I can stretch MoFo out a bit? I've been playing around in the settings and what not, but I haven't found anything to my liking yet.
It's funny how this poll becomes essentially useless a couple years later.

I wish I could; MoFo looks a bit small (but not usually tiny because I don't maximize the browser windows on my new monitor) for me, too, but we need to keep it usable for the majority of users who still operate on 1024x768, or similar displays. Going to a percentage-based width would have it looking too wide for members like yourself, most likely, with very little word wrapping, and it would also look too small for smaller resolutions which would want/need it to take up most of the screen.
That said, it's not impossible to put a special option in for some members to go with a wider layout in their profiles, or something. I might have to explore that.

I probably just need to keep playing around with the settings, yeah?

I mean, I'm not on this machine for MoFo that much. It just startles me how big this thing is. Because yeah, MoFo looks perfect on my laptop.
Yeah, new monitors can really muck these things up. The chasm between smaller or normal sized monitors and large ones has made this kind of thing a big pain for developers.
Almost every site I view looks goofy on my 20-inch widescreen if I maximize the window, so I always keep it smaller by about 15% on either side of the screen, and the majority of sites look quite good that way (including this one). But I'm definitely open to a special option for members, since it would revert to the normal size otherwise. It's actually a pretty interesting idea that I hadn't thought of before.
1440 x 900 here, hope that helps.
Actually, don't bother for the moment. I should really start a new poll, since most of the results above are way out of date by now.

One of the first things I did when I got a monitor with a decent resolution was to un-maximize (different to minimize, obviously :p) my browser window.
Et voila:

2560 X 1440 when I save up for my new cinema display, the screen real-estate really helps when your editing. Duel monitors is great for color also. :D
