View Full Version : Battle of the Movie Posters

Figured I'd try this on for size. Here is where you can vote for the better movie poster. Vote based on the poster alone, not the quality of the film. The winner will go on to take the next challenger.
Here we go:
SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

VS
Braveheart

Gave my pick to Shawshank Redemption

08-18-07, 08:35 PM
As did I.
It's nicer looking, but...
...I thik it sorta-kinda gives part of the ending away.
So, my vote went to Braveheart as a result.
I voted for the Shawshank poster cause for some reason, it always stuck with me even before I saw the movie. Maybe it's the rain that did it. I dunno. I always liked the downpouring of warm rain on my face.
The Braveheart one never did much for me at all for some reason.
Braveheart, because of the Quote, I love it.

Shawshank Redemption because of the fabulously done artwork.

Shawshank Redemption, because it contains a significantly lower proportion of Mel Gibson.

It seems that Shawshank has won this one by a landslide.
Before we go to next match-up, anyone know how to change the poll. If not then I guess we'll have to have a new thread everytime.
The Taxi Driver
08-20-07, 10:38 PM
We used to have a this same thread probably a year ago and the thread creator just had everyone vote by posting and he counted the ballots, I think thats a better method than creating a new thread every single time, or at least have us vote by PM.

Shawshank, It is much more compelling :yup:

Indiana Jones is too bright looking. It blinds me.

Not a fan of the Indie poster so I'm sticking with Shawshank
Why does Indie look so peaceful in the poster? He seems almost placid/flaccid .
Love the Indie Movie better, but the poster...uh goes to Shawshank IMO n stuff.

Me too :yup:

Good point 7thson to further my distaste for that poster. It's like he's trying to pose for a GQ mag heheh.
I haven't even had the urge to watch The Shawshank Redemption yet, so I will go with Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

heat & dust cus the Indiana Jones one has a poor resemblance to Harrison Ford... plus it has a sunset in it and I’m a romantic geezer.

Anyway, Heat and Dust, becuase Indy's face is so stupid in his poster.

Temple of Doom it is.

6-6, so far? Am I reading that correctly?Indeed you are.
ah, so you need a tiebreaker, eh?
I don't like either poster but if I had to pick, I'd go with Heat and Dust, because of the texture I see in it.
I don't want to be presumptuous, but if this breaks the tie, how about a new contest? A battle of posters for the same film?

Argh, that's an evil one, tramp!
Hmmm, this really is tough because both posters are beautiful in their own right. The Batman specific poster looks more symbolic with Batman standing before a beautiful yet nocturnal city. The city itself looks so overwhelming compared to Batman, which sort of suggests that the city is a character in itself and that Batman now realises that theres a much bigger and darker world out there than there previously was.
The Joker poster, by contrast, is more iconic than the other one. The emphasis is on his flamboyant clothing and his trademark Joker card and knife. It suggests that the character is larger than life if anything.
I know some of that sounded a bit confusing but it's the best I can do. I think i'll go with The Batman poster because theres much more symbolism to it.
No, that wasn't confusing at all! I love both of them a great deal. (There are even two more Dark Knight posters that I like, too.)
I do like the symbolism of the first one and I agree with your assessment.
But for sheer emotional response, I simply love that first poster of the Joker. One of the things I especially liked about Ledger's performance was the way he held his shoulders, and this poster captures that body language. I also love the flowing coat.
I'll go with the first (Joker) one, then.
I do like the Joker one because to me the other poster looks fake..

I'd vote for Gator Bait, those tag lines are too good. "Half Animal... All Woman"
I hope y'all realize that Sand Pirates of the Sahara is a fake movie (Ramón Jamón!!) shown in The Majestic. Gator Bait is all-too-real.

Good memory Mark, I haven't seen that movie since it first came out on DVD and even then it wasn't too memorable for me, but I think I see the little 'Majestic' symbol to the left of the frightened woman. Suspect is maybe trying to pull a fast one on us? I kinda want to see Gator bait now.
